  • the Matthew 19 passage indicates that *everyone* who has believed in Jesus' name sake will have an incredible inheritance and eternal life. Exciting. But this does not mean that there are varying levels of square footage, or varying numbers of jewels, or anything like that. That is what I'm speaking out against here. Of course, there is a great reward (singular, not rewardS plural) for believers and that is very comforting to those who have been abandoned and lost everything in this life.

  • Matthew 19:27-29 (partial)

Then Peter answered and said to Him, “See, we have left all and followed You. Therefore what shall we have?”

28 So Jesus said And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My name’s sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life. Eternal life is free, rewards are earned. Notice that Jesus does not slam Peter for asking about rewards.

  • Andrew, I am happy to hear your teaching on the gospel of grace. I also, was reading on John 14 a few months ago, when I realized that Jesus could be refering to the fact that, at that time He had not died yet, but when He ascends to the Father, He is going to prepare a place cause we are the temple of the Holy Spirit, and seated with Christ, but we were not yet. And the phrase, "in My Fathers House," is like saying,"in the body of Christ." We, in Him, and Him in us. We are the "many Mansions!"

  • Completely agree with you. Whether or not we get 'rewards' or not, by being believers we already have the greatest gift possible: living a life with the God of the universe. If we are concerned with petty things in heaven, then we do not have our eyes on God, instead we are focused on coveting things we don't have.

  • Doesn't Jesus say that when He returns He will reward everyone man according to his work?

  • @aeroflying yea, i believe that rewards are given at the second coming. by the time we pass away, we will only wander around the beauty of heaven :) (for believers)
