7 out of 10 Black voters & 53% of Hispanic voters voted YES. It NEVER ceases to amaze me that people who ALWAYS complain about discrimination are ALWAYS the first to discriminate against others. Don't forget, in the US, people of colour couldn't marry each other, & certainly not Whites, especially. Many people would still vote to make the latter illegal in America, too, no doubt, for many of the same reasons they voted "yes" on November 4th. STUPID knows no colour.
The term marriage is only describing man and woman. Not any type of homosexual. Prop 8 does not violate the constitution. Prop 8 is unconstitutional ONLY when marriage is a hierarchy term to describe heterosexual and homosexual couples. However if the term marriage is a SUBSET of domestic partnership, it is constitutional. No law should treat any subset of the domestic partnership unequally with segregation.
that passage is actually taken out of context, opposite of what your average conservative would say. That was Paul addressing a church that was having man boy relationships-THAT is wrong, but never in The Bible does it speak against homosexuality. And I would like to thank you, this video brought tears to my eyes and proved that others like me can be religious and still believe that ALL PEOPLE HAVE THE RIGHT TO LOVE. It is a sad day when that bill passed.
I have nothing against gay people. The other day I was talking to a gay man and I got a little scared because I thought I smelled pungent ass, but it was just someone putting swiss cheese on a sandwich. I felt a little better. But, please don't teach kids that being gay is okay to assuage gay guilt. Gay men and straight men have equal rights. Both have the freedom to marry a woman. Yes on 8!!
Thanks for the support Fathers and Sisters. That's right, God taught us to love. Not hate. Two men or women loving each other is the same love between heteros. The only hate that exists is the hate from discrimination and selfishness.

Adam and Eve -not- Adam and Steve.
Romans 1:26-27: "For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence [sic] of their error which was meet."
One thing you need to see it that those are words written by man, not god himself. So you are reading someone's interpretation of what might or might not be gods will. Besides I dought that god would write a book about hatred and discrimation. It is withing us to determine what god really wants and from my understanding he just wants us to love one another.
It's a "marriage" God does not acknowledge, God does not unite the same sex together. It goes against His order of creation, it is saying to God almighty "You made a mistake when you made me." ..how awful. ;[ The Bible says, "The marriage bed should be kept PURE" But this generation makes in impure because of their self indulgence & lust!
"Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral." Heb. 13:4
This isn't about what God acknowledges. It's about what the government acknowledges. Give to Caesar what is Caesar's, give to God what is God's. Judge not lest ye be judged.
What makes a marriage sacred? What about marriage makes it a sign of God's presence? Is it the love and commitment that two people have for each other? Is it the message of encouragement to seek out love that it sends to the world? Or is it nothing more than the biological sex of the partners?
Abusive and loveless marriages are okay, marriage for money and social position is actually encouraged, and no-fault divorce is as well, but same-sex marriage threatens the sanctity of marriage?
Thank God we are a pluralistic society and not a theocracy. What's the difference between these Mormons and Catholics who want to write their faith beliefs into the constitution, just as the Taliban did because of their beliefs about women!
Please understand the stark difference between the Holy Bible and the law of our government. The Bible does not dictate this country's law. Neither does the Book of Mormon, the Tanakh, the Qur'an, the Daozang, the Tripiṭaka, or any other holy text. This is absolutely necessary in order to preserve Americans' freedom of religion, as per the United States Constitution's First Amendment. The moment we start merging *any* religion's views with our government law is the moment that freedom dies.
No, this is a common misconception. Pais doesn't mean a romantic type of love, but of a brotherly love, a non romantic love. Nice try. Don't believe this guy!
If two people love each other why not to get married? Wow!!!The bible teaches mankind that marriage is an institution that God created between a man and a women only. Romans chapter one, Paul writes that God believes the practice of homosexuality is an abomination to God. God is love, but he is a just God who judges sin. Homosexuality is a sin that will lead many to hell. Please read the Holy Bible..Inspired Word of God....
What authority do these so called "faith leaders" fall under? I heard one guy say the teaching of Jesus...well hate to burst your bubble but Jesus, (who by the way is "The Word" and the Word is The Bible)does not condone the homosexual lifestyle. So hes off and if you just make up your own rules you dont really have a relationship with God, your deceived. Do any of these "faith leaders" use the Bible? well silly question its obviuos they dont. enough said.
As other commenters have pointed out above, Jesus didn't speak against homosexuality. Part of the OLD Testament *might* be interpreted to do so, if you squint and ignore the political agendas of those who decided what books would appear in the Bible (not to mention translation gaffs through the centuries).
To answer your question, no, some of these faith leaders DON'T use the Bible, because they are Buddhist, Jewish, etc. Despite what you may have heard, this is NOT solely a Christian nation.
I'm not surprised that the pastors were either from the Episcopal Church or women, who should not even be pastors according to scripture. It's funny how I didn't hear any law in this video. These quacks obviously need to go to a Bible information class and find out that the Bible has law as well as Gospel, and that God does not tolerate sin, especially homosexuality.
HailZeon57 said: "the Bible clearly says that no women is to have a position of authority in the church."
Well, since you're such a great Biblical scholar, enlighten me with your source. I'm the first to admit that I don't know *EVERY* word of the Bible (though I know a fair bit more than some, being a double PK and having helped my mom study for her seminary exams), so please: give me Book, Chapter, and Verse so I may read that for myself.
ButMadNNW : I hate to agree with him, but HailZeon is right about that. The Bible does say that women shouldnt even speak in church.
1 Corinthians 14 34-35 (NIV)
34women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says. 35If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church.
34Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law.
35And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.
NASB
34The women are to (A)keep silent in the churches; for they are not permitted to speak, but (B)are to subject themselves, just as (C)the Law also says.
Also 1 Timothy 2:11 11 A woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness.
And also 1 Corinthians 11:5 5But every woman who has her head uncovered while praying or prophesying disgraces her head, for she is one and the same as the woman whose head is shaved.
*looks over ImaGoofyGooberYEAH's other posts in this thread* (I'm going to assume you're just helping provide the source and not actually agreeing with HailZeon57, so this is a general rant, not directed specifically at you, Ima. And just so you know, the point of the exercise was to see if HZ57 could provide the verse, not anyone else.)
Sorry, no. Of all the scripture to quote, Paul's letters to the Corinthians and to Timothy aren't going to cut it. Those words are *Paul's* interpretation, not "God's word". (For that matter, the ENTIRE Bible was written by Men, not "God". But that's a different debate.) Take I Timothy 2:12 (TEV; the only one I have): "I [*Paul*] do not allow [women] to teach... [because] it was the woman who was deceived" - he is punishing all of womankind for Eve's gaff!
That's Paul's misogyny, not the "word of God". If God Himself was so against women being active in the church or preaching, why do convents exist, why do seminaries (filled with Biblical scholars who "should know better") admit women? I mean, besides the obvious answer (for the latter case) that as a Society we've evolved beyond the patriarchal domination mindset of a few thousand years ago... (Well, most of us have, anyway.)
But don't listen to me; I was raised by two Presbyterian pastors, one of whom went against Paul's will in heeding that call to service (*gasp*). And I'm named after a woman who helped her son cheat his brother out of his father's blessing, so I can't be trusted. ;-) Also, Paul went on to say that "a woman will be saved through having children" (2:15), so if Paul has any say, I'm doomed, anyway. I have no intention of ever having children.
And for the record, I'm not out to really argue or change anyone's mind here. I no longer align myself with that religion, but if it works for you, fine. Just don't push your idea of religion into my state's (or nation's) constitution.
i was raised catholic and i'm voting NO on 8 here in california. and besides "sexual immorality" doesn't automatically mean homosexual. how the hell do you know he wasn't talking about RAPE, or INCEST? yeah, that's right, you DON'T know.

Don't bother donating money to fight prop 8.
Donate money to get congressmen, senators and a PRESIDENT elected THAT WILL BRING OUR TROOPS HOME!
A ban on gay marriage might not be a good thing but it can be undone.
Dead troops can't ever be brought back to life nor can we restore limbs to those missing legs or arms and every time you donate to a cause other than bringing them home you are saying their living or dying doesn't matter.
No on Prop 8: Equality under the law is a fundamental freedom. Regardless of how we feel about marriage, singling people out to be treated differently is wrong. Prop. 8 won't affect our school, but it will mean loving couples are treated differently under our Constitution and denied eqaul protection under the law.
The bible does not make a whole lot of sense with today's eyes, we have a better understanding of our world than they did at the time the bible was written.
Genesis 38:9-10 he spilled his semen on the ground to keep from producing offspring for his brother. 10 What he did was wicked in the LORD's sight; so he put him to death also.
Deuteronomy 22:11 Do not wear clothes of wool and linen woven together.
Jesus himself made no mention of homosexuality. Paul and the old testament however does. In a society where survival of children meant everything, homosexuality could not exist. The Hebrews were a sad group of nomadic people that needed to increase in numbers to do anything. They barely conquered Jerusalem for themselves and got owned by the Assyrians. They needed numbers.
Your understanding of the history and context of the Bible is lacking. The bible still encourages slavery yet we, as a culture, have moved beyond that. If the Bible is a living breathing representation of God for Christians, can not we follow that lead?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
It is not hard to see that every one speaking does not read the bible, because if they did they would read no futher, because it goes against what they believe. These people are the voice of Satan. Becuase only he goes against Jesus and the teachings of the profits. What is life with out life. Life comes from a Man and a woman. Not from a man and a man or a woman and a woman. These people are even blind to the reality of the natual law of nature. They're impostures in the christian faith
Jesus never said anything against gays or anything related to it. Instead he said love thy neighbor as thyself. So mayb it is you who should read the Bible.
Not hard to tell you have stayed to what you want to believe, very dangerous. Jesus said he didn't come to change the laws of the profits. Jesus did condem sexual immorality.
No, its people like you, who are impostors of the Christian Faith. You make a mockery of the religion you pretend to follow. You should be ashamed of yourself. Im sure other christians are ashamed of you.
The old testament has many readings that say homosexuality is an abomination. And Jesus said that man is Sextual unmoral.
Read 1 Cor 6:9
And remember Jesus said he didn't come to change the laws of the Profits. And God does not condem people, and we chose not to follow him and we follow our selves and we end up condeming our own selves by our CHOICES.
"Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders"
Thats PAUL talking. Not Jesus. PAUL. Paul was a nutcase asshole.
Since you know so much about the Bible and about Paul.
Acts 13:9"Then Saul,who also is called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit,{Why?}
1 Timothy 2:7"For which I was appointed a preacher and an apostle. I am speaking the truth in Christ,a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.
After Paul met Jesus on the Damascus Road he was a new man with a new heart. The old man with the old beliefs were a thing of the past.Paul may have believed that this new man with a new heart required a new name.
I don't have a fear of gays, I have a deep respect for God and I do what he says. If he says to condemn gays, I condemn them. What is wrong with following your religion. It would be like someone breaking the law to support something that it condemns. If you have no respect for that, then don't talk.
Homophobia's definition, as defined by Merriam Webster, is both the fear, hatred, and condemnation of homosexuality/homosexuals.
You are a homophobic.
Why should YOUR religion dictate what other people, not even of the same religion, do? Im not a Christian, so why should i be forced to obey your rules?

having said that,
Genesis 38:9-10 he spilled his semen on the ground to keep from producing offspring for his brother.

They needed numbers.

the term Homosexual didnt exist nor gay

Your understanding of the history and context of the Bible is lacking. The bible still encourages slavery yet we, as a culture, have moved beyond that. If the Bible is a living breathing representation of God for Christians, can not we follow that lead?

1 Corinthians 6:9
"Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders"
Thats PAUL talking. Not Jesus. PAUL. Paul was a nutcase asshole.

Paul was loved by God, loved so much his writings made it into the Bible.
Stop trying to convert the bible into your own theology. Learn the Bible from one end to the other and listen to the rest of Jesus's teachings.

Paul was hated by god. Hated so much, that he heard homophobic voices in his head telling him to hate other people and spread hate!
Stop trying to convert the bible into your own, hate filled theology. Lean the REAL meaning of Jesus' message.

Since you know so much about the Bible and about Paul.
Acts 13:9"Then Saul,who also is called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit,{Why?}

No, he was an apostle who wrote that under influence from God, genius.
HailZeon57 3 years ago
No, he was a sociopath writing under the influence of the little voices in his head.

Definition of phobia:
An irrational fear of something or someone.
I don't have a fear of gays, I have a deep respect for God and I do what he says. If he says to condemn gays, I condemn them. What is wrong with following your religion. It would be like someone breaking the law to support something that it condemns. If you have no respect for that, then don't talk.
HailZeon57 3 years ago
Homophobia's definition, as defined by Merriam Webster, is both the fear, hatred, and condemnation of homosexuality/homosexuals.
You are a homophobic.
Why should YOUR religion dictate what other people, not even of the same religion, do? Im not a Christian, so why should i be forced to obey your rules?
