  • Nice is all I can say! I want one! lol

  • montreal?

  • What a sweeetie!!!

  • it looks like it's a mix. but i don't know that much of akita's yet though. i really want to get one though, after the movie about hachi :) either that or a leonberger :) big dogs are the best, right now i have a malamute :)

  • @jonvegard31 my boy is what you call an undercolored pinto - but he's all akita, his parents are championed titled and correctly colored, i don,t know where he got his goofy face from ;-)

  • @brayonne1755 hehe :) he's a very beautiful dog :)

  • holy shiit

    very massive

  • Absolutely Beautiful Akita's i used to own 2 Staffordshire Bull Terriers both passed on now havent had a dog since ,but ive been searching on lot on this breed only just found out about the Amercian Akita's over the Japanese Akita's i really want to own one of these Breeds now.! thay look Bold and Loyal....

    Stunning Dogs - technodoll.....

  • i absolutley appreciate the passions displayed here with family trees, but the one thing I can tell you for a fact is that I am passionate for my big guy, Hiro.

  • my uncel have a 100lbs dog yours dwarf whit it

  • 100lbs joke

  • The 1 on the left looks just like my dog

  • thats some nice looking american akita. nice built, nice colors. just one thing that was wrong. you live in the city :P such beatyful dogs should run freely on a farm :D

    just joking. NICE dogs =)

  • @polsa LOL thank you... we live on a farm now, you can see the akitas running in lots of green if you look at my more recent videos! :)

  • I have never heard of a healthy Akita reaching 160 lbs. I own an American Akita who weighs in at around 130, we're working on controlling his weight.

Either way, your Akitas are gorgeous.

  • @RandiiSavage 130 is perfectly normal this type of breed. anything over 140 for an akita is something to be either astonished by or concerned.

  • @RandiiSavage

If the dog is muscular, I wouldn't be concerned with controlling his weight. If he's over fed and under exercised and the weight is fat, then of course be pro active

Some dogs are just bigger than the breed standard. I know a woman with a perfectly healthy 130lb bitch. Regularly exercised and in good health. Mine is no where near that size and is a perfectly normal 88lbs, although a little short for the breed at 22".

  • DAMN I WANT ONE OF THESE PUPS,WHATS THE CHANCES OF SENDING ONE 2 THE OTHER SIDE OF THE PLANET....NEW ZEALAND?

  • i had a rotty akita male....huge 135lbs of pure muscle...i miss him, RIP ANGUS

  • Bella is bigger and shes about 85 pounds! ?

  • CUte baby bears.. my akita is my princess

  • Japanese Akita Inu: Smaller, pure, smaller triangular head, ears smaller and far apart, small almond eyes, sheer three colors(no extreme markings ex: mask), leaner, more similar temperaments but noticeably different (more aloof), more nimble, fox like. As a personal opinion I prefer the Japanese Akita Inu to the American one because the Japanese Akita Inu looks more elegant and noble than the American Akita.

  • @ThowHilton

I'm not sure 'pure' is the right word. The Inu was crossed, that's how it's a bigger dog than the other native Japanese dogs. The Dewa line (American Akitas) were also grand champions in the Japanese show rings, the Japanese decided the more foxy looking type was the way to go

Personally I prefer the bigger Dewa line, the Inu's are beautiful, but for me the bigger heavier Dewa Akita is the way an Akita should be.

  • @ThowHilton Its really a matter of dog to dog. This dogs personally in my opion dont look 100% akita but my noiw deceased akita was another story he had a sort of foxy look but still had the black mask and my other doesnt have the foxy look. It just depends

  • American Akita (in video): Bigger, recorded crossbreed with the Mastiff and German Shepard, comes in many colors, usually has a black mask, still triangular but more rounded head, ears are generally larger and closer together, bulkier, similar temperament but noticeably different (more guard dog temperament, barks a bit more) , bigger boned, small eyes , bear like.

  • Comment removed

  • @ThowHilton I've never heard that about the American Akita being bred specifically with the German Shepard and/or Mastiff, interesting. Trying to find sources on that now.

  • @CharoChas yes ders alot of tosa and mastiff in the big akitas like my one has alot of tosa and mastiff in it you can c it in his head

  • ummm ppl Akita dogs are a Japanese breed.....

  • @horsechamp14 Americans have taken the breed and made their own version which is bigger, broader and more muscular. unsure if it is an actual pedigree breed, but they call it their own.

  • @LeadsandFeeds

Wrong, it is the Dewa line akita, and was very popular in Japan, winning the JKC top honours. The dog is not an American invention, it's just that the Americans preferred the Dewa line akita. The Japanese changed preference to the Ichinoseki line

Both are beautiful dogs, but I am with the Americans on this and prefer the more muscular and heavy set Dewa line akita. If you're unsure if it's a pedigree breed, then you should be equally unsure about the Akita Inu. *rolls eyes*

  • @jmaddiso

Wrong. But you are right about there was a line called Dewa was once there in Japan but not appliciated any more in Japan as Japanese Akita. Today We tend to give the name Akita for Ichinoseki line only.

Dewa line went to US and now, became as American Akita.

  • @31Ikura I'm not wrong in saying the breed was a Japanese creation. Both lines were larger because they were crossed, to say different is ridiculous.

Ichinoseki line was seen to resemble what the Japanese saw as being more closely related in terms of looks to the original Matagi/Akita hunting dog, a much smaller dog. Yes the Dewa line shows more of the influence of other breeds which were crossed into it. So I am not wrong in refuting that the American Akita is an American invention

  • @jmaddiso because, Akita was in a serious extinction once in Japan, and there were people who put lots of other dog's blood to bring Akita back made Dewa line Akita. Dewa was easily spreaded, so they won or got honnored in the contest soon. But its look or behavior got way too far from its original, the Akita once there before in the danger of extinction.

  • @31Ikura finally something I can agree with you on

Both lines were 'New type' Akitas though. Both lines were crossed to give a much larger dog than the original dog for dog fighting purposes.

  • @jmaddiso and asThowHiltons says,"The American Akita is historically recorded crossbred with Mastiff and German Shepard" is surely TURE. And that's why we, Japanese prefer Ichinoseki Akita a lot now. Plus, as a Japanese, I have to say that we usually don't say Akita-Inu. it's Akita-Ken. if you're unsure if how it's called normally in Japan, then you should be eually unsure about what Dewa Akita is.

  • @31Ikura seriously you're trying to refute facts with grammar? Rolls eyes

The Akita ken is also a cross breed, get over it. I like both dogs, but I seriously do not understand the Japanese snobbery towards the American Akita.

  • @31Ikura Then you, as a Japanese, would know that the dog was nearly completely wiped out during WW2. They had to build the Japanese lines from the ground up. They now also have more Shiba in them than before the war. They also have crossed with American Akita's to get them back up to size. Both breeds were crossed. Both were done so to be better suited to their environment. Just like how now, in the south of the US, there is a short haired collie.

  • black lab akita mix right here

  • @Senorize um, no - these are pure american akitas with papers... LOL! I love how people claim themselves as authorities when they have no clue what they're talking about... *shakes head*

  • @technodoll im saying thats what i own, not whats in the video...LOL! I love how people make statements about my comment trying to bring me down when they CLEARLY don't understand!...*shakes head*

  • @Senorize i clearly misread your comment, my apologies -- hey, it happens!

  • @technodoll i raised akitas for 10 years.these two dogs r beautifull.must be good bloodline

  • @Senorize they are pure akita

  • @Senorize how does that look anything like a black lab...looks pure akita

  • @Senorize yeah but look at how you wrote the comment it certainly does look like your talking to her.

  • American Akitas are also from Japan. I'm not sure why they are called "American", other than to distinguish them from the other breed. Maybe the American is just most common in America.

  • @CharoChas The American Akita is historically recorded crossbred with Mastiff and German Shepard. The Japanese Akita Inu is different and the original. There are many differences between the American Akita and the Japanese one... physical traits, temperaments, and colors. In Japan they don't allow American Akitas into Japanese Akita inu competitions because they are considered a mix breed and not actually a pure blooded Akita.

  • Comment removed

  • @ThowHilton

Seriously, that is so not true. The Akita Inu is also a mixed breed. Both dogs are lovely dogs, but they are both Mixed breeds. There is nothing more pure about the Inu over the American Akita. It retains the more foxy face, yes. And this is the reason the Japanese have bred from these lines, to attempt to re create a dog that looks more similar to it's original ancestor, which was a much smaller hunting dog.

    Both breeds are 'new akitas'.

  • @CharoChas

They are from the Dewa line. The Japanese chose to stop breeding from the Dewa line, and chose to go for the Ichinoseki line of Akitas. The Dewa line was very popular in Japan at one time, and Dewa akitas won top honours at the Japanese kennel club.

The snobbery of some Inu owners towards the Dewa line is silly, and shows a lack of understanding of the origins of their own dogs as well as the Dewa line.

  • all akita is from japan すべての秋田は日本から

  • what happened in his neck ?

  • They r really nice Akitas. But not massive my boy diesle he is just 1 year old and he is 72 klg and stands 27 INS high and he'd head "is" massive with a great nature

  • He doesn't seem very big. :/ My akita is giant and fat. Lol.

  • amagine trying to break into that house, fuck those things would tare u apart, those two dogs would take down a bear, not that i ever want them to fight, real loving dogs

  • nice dogs

  • I have to say I hate it when people call these akitas.. they'r Ameican akitas.. totally different dogs.. The shapes of Akita and American akita are totally different...

  • @WakachaChan its basically the color, jap is smaller, but two very different dogs indeed, both have the akita loyatly tho, like it is an akita, just not an orignal akita from japan

  • yes, american akita :)

  • this is a American Akita right?

  • I have an akita pit mix, and he is abt 60 lbs. His name is Wrecks and he's a great dog!! just wasn't expecting him to shed. lol.

  • my male akita was 120 he was huge ..

  • my uncles black and white akita was big as these dogs

but she was a really sweet dog and a loyal one

i love these dogs and they are actually hunting dogs lol

  • I had an akita as big as yours, he was very protective and the smartest dog i've ever raised. He got a lot of excersize around my yard (i have 7 acres of fenced land) is yours an indoor dog?

  • Yes, he lives inside the house with us (we have 3 dogs total) but we moved to the country last year, we have 12 acres for the dogs to play in so they are very, very happy!! i posted a video of them playing on our deck in september i think?

  • oh nice, how old is your akita now? i have 2. koji and spice. koji is still young, only 2-3 years old now and spice is a big fatty, i think she's 9

  • My boy turned 6 and my girl is 4.5.. they still act like puppies ;-) do you have videos of your two?

  • haha ya i defineatly agree with that, my dog that passed away would run full tilt around the yard and almost smoke a tree. he'd play with a rope and a ball byself. tackling it and kicking it then chasing it. with the rope he's throw it up in the air and chase it lol. and no. i live in calgary and my dogs are home in grande priarie

  • Can i ask what u feed your dogs for them to be so full? ive spoken to some breeders and ther akitas lose weight with certain foods :O

  • They are fed a natural, raw diet (raw meats, bones, eggs, etc) and a bit of grain-free kibble here and there. You can see them better in the latest video I posted of them (in september or october I think?) just check under my videos. Good luck!

  • are they fully grown cause mine is not and its bigger than them

  • i have ab akita in one of my vids but for some reason it never has gotten big like others, i think it weighs somewhere between 90 and 100 lbs

  • That's sad but at least he is better now xD!!! Beautifull!!!, they really are.

  • Did the white and brown spotted one have some sort of surgery it seems he has shave marks on both sides of his neck.

  • No, he just had poor coat growth due to an overload of testosterone and the fur rubbed off his neck because of his collars (that is why he is wearing a harness on the video). We got him neutered and all his fur grew back beautifully, never had a problem since!

  • Check the muscle on that! Fuck me sideways lol

  • Beautiful!

  • These are American Akita which are slightly larger and stockier than the original Japanese Akita.

  • who is "they"?

  • thank you Lmackadocious!

I will upload a video I took last week, my male is now a healthy (vet-checked) 144 lbs, and my female is 98 lbs, very standard. They are playing with our new Dogue De Bordeaux puppy - hope you enjoy!

  • Hmm.. no offense but they dont really like you.. theyre not big either.. but theyre pure...

  • ... lol there big..

  • Our boy, Kado, just weighed in at 179 Lbs. Ideal weight is 160. He is a big boy with a grand champion parents. He had two acl surgeries. We do not want him to be the "biggest bowser" , so he is starting to walk on the treadmill.

  • Bullshit! an Akita should be between 75 and 120 pounds. If your dog is 179 it's MASSIVELY FAT! What is it with people who lie about their dogs weight? If you really let your dog get that big you've condemned it to an old age of fucked joints and heart disease. Nice one. 2 acls and a triple bypass on the way eh?

  • @doctordrew66 That dog does not look fat!

  • @carnypimp What dog? I was replying to someone who said their dog was 179 pounds. I wasn't referring to the dog in the video. The dogs shown look pretty good in my opinion.

  • @doctordrew66 i own 30 akitas and the males healthy weight is usually between 140 and 160.good bloodline = massive akita

  • @popeeluke22

I doubt very much you own 30 Akitas. Please feel free to prove me wrong by posting a video of you taking them for a walk.

My information comes from both the kennel club and my wife, who's a vetinary surgeon. If your dogs (assuming they exist) are 160 pounds (11.5 stone!) they are either cross bred or obese. Simple fact.

  • @popeeluke22

Totally agree. Not all Akitas are bred to keep them within the Kennel Clubs recognised breed standard. People often put a large sire and dam together to get an even bigger dog. Akitas were meant to be big, the Japanese constantly tried to get them bigger, which is why they eventually bred them with the Tosa.

  • @doctordrew66

Not strictly true. That is the breed standard yes, but you can get bigger dogs than the breed standard who are perfectly healthy

The Akita was bred to be a bigger dog, the original hunting dog is quite small, as are Japans other native hunting dogs.

While the show ring would look for dogs that meet the 'man made' breed standard, there's nothing wrong with having a bigger Akita. Now a fat dog is a totally different matter

  • @doctordrew66 your a foolmy akita weighs 187 pounda and has no fat on his body

in japan they have 200 pounders your talking out of your ass, study shows that 87% of akitas are put down because of joint problems or heart disease so take your bullshit else where

  • @Mccxjordan If you let your dog reach the same weight as a 6'2" man with a bmi of 24 then your dog is MASSIVELY FAT you prick! It's idiots like you that condemn "87%" of dogs to be put down due to joint problems or heart disease. Go and educate yourself on the subject before you spout off. If it's my bullshit, it's also the kennel club's bullshit too. Also the true Japanese Akita Inu is a smaller framed dog than the American. You have no idea do you?

  • Also, When you REALLY know akitas, about 80-90% of the time you can IMMEDIATELY tell if it is American or Japanese.

  • Nice dog. I was most impressed with his head. I'd like to see some more videos. I have a male too (brindle) and he's 8 years old. I just took him to the vet and he's 126lbs. By the way, the female looks pretty big too how much does she weigh?

ps-Don't let some of these people make U think something is wrong with ur dog. Some of them have no idea what they are talking about. I already know your dog is a full bred Akita.

  • Akita Inu, and Akita are really the same breed. Inu simply means "dog" in Japanese. The Japanese are now breeding their Aktas to be finer boned and fox-like it seems. I've always liked the heavier bear-like look that stems from the original "Dewa" influence. Most of my Akitas have weighed 120-140lbs. My first Akita lived to be 17 years old.

  • OMFG

  • of course they are both sterile - breeding should be left to breeders! why do you ask?

  • are they spayed/neutered???

  • What does he weigh. Can't really tell from the video but he looks big. Had an Akita for 10 years, just put him down in Dec. Best dog I ever had and the only breed I'll ever get again.

  • It's embarassing... we got him weighed at the vet about 10 days ago and the bastard is up to 148 lbs. He needs to lose a couple of pounds IMO but the vet said he looks great, very thick boned and well-muscled.

He's a freak of nature and too big for the standard, nobody knows why it happens sometimes. Genetics, eh? LOL

I'll try to get a new video of the furkids up soon, if only I can find my old camera (my SLR only takes pics).

  • I know a bit about dog breeding so on so forth and this akita was just a fantasticly bred dog plain and simple! Most of my pits are from 35 to 70 pounds and we bred 2 of our smaller pits and they produced a 135 pound dog that was scary to say the least but it does happen and that dog has been my foundation dog and his blood continues to be my foundation!Check em out on my my 1 video I have lol he is the first pit you see!And he was a big ass fuk'n dog just like the akita in video it happens!

  • Yup - mother nature likes to throw a curve-ball sometimes! Your dogs are awesome btw!

  • Are you serious? That's crazy, I've never heard of two smaller dog producing an exponentially combined larger dog, but I have little doubt that it does happen from time to time. That is wild.

My Akita dog is an Alaskan Husky with Akita blood (i.e., a Cross), and she is about 24 inches tall at the withers, and roughly 50 lbs. or so. She has a beautiful gait, and the build of a fast sled dog, but she has the attitude of an Akita; Strangers beware on her turf! lol.

  • Yikes, what an over done, over weight american akita. That extra weight is not good for the dogs, you know.

  • He's in top athletic shape, you know... not one bit of fat on him. You cannot assume a dog is "overweight" without first assessing where the weight comes from, in this case it's from very dense thick bones and lots of muscle.

Just like some humans are built bigger than others, it doesn't mean it's bad... His parents are normal size, nobody knows why my boy got so big. He just is who he is: the best dog in the world who means everything to us.

  • i dont know what video you are looking at but there is no way that akita is overweight! lovely dog btw!! am looking it to getting an akita pup at the moment.

  • yeah get your facts straight. that dog is perfect.

  • wow nice!

  • Yes... he's mixed with purebred Champion American akita. :-)

  • hes mixed with someting

  • Because of his colouring? LOL

If you check out the other videos you might recognize a pure-bred akita :-)

  • His/her face doesn't look like the typical Akita. And he's/she's short, but the head is fat Like a pitbull.

  • RnB Soul, akitas are supposed to have big bear-like heads. Maybe you should check out the AKC standard to get a good idea of what a real akita looks like... seems you don't know much. And don't assume my dog is short, he is 28" at the withers which is TALL for a male akita.

  • Ummm..I wasn't tryin to insult your dog..

  • Good, or else I'd have to get him to hunt you down and slobber you with doggy kisses, LOL!

  • It's an American Akita? I was lookin at your dog and other Akitas, how come yours isn't wolf lookin? Well not that Akitas look exactly like wolves but kinda like a fattish wolf? Your's has very short here, can you clear it up for me haha.

  • OH NO WONDER!!! It didn't look like an Akita to me because I was thinkin of Akita Inu.

  • Yeah.... from Wikipedia:

The American Akita is considered a separate breed from the Akita Inu (Japanese Akita) in many countries around the world, with the notable exceptions of the United States and Canada. In the US and Canada, both the American Akita and the Akita Inu are considered a single breed with differences in type rather than two separate breeds. Note that in 2005 the FCI-designation Great Japanese Dog was officially changed to American Akita.

  • The AKC supports in breeding dogs for looks rather than function. Which explains why your dogs don't look functional at all. I'm used to seeing, smaller american akitas. By smaller, not shorter, however not so massive, more agile and worth something.

  • What function should my dog have... hunting bears in the middle of the city? Dog fighting? I'm not sure what you mean by a dog being "worth something" - to be honest you sound a bit like a know-it-all ass. What are YOU worth?

  • well you should get out more. An akita is only an akita if it is pure-bred. and pure akitas are LARGE! go buy a pomeranian if you want a dog thats small. and an akita is the most useful dog unless you want to herd sheep. akitas are the most loyal dogs ever. and they protect my children daily. they weren't always used to hunt bears.......the japanese would use them as babysitters.

  • the japanese used them to guard the royal family :)

  • stop plugging the Akita!

If you know anything about breeds you would know this dog is one of the more difficult breeds even for experienced handlers like ME :)!

    Anyways,

They aren't just limited to herding sheep!

They fail in comparison to other breeds in tracking, bite work, drive, agility and the list goes on. Not bagging on the dog its probably has something to do with the fact that they are less separated from the wolves genetically time wise i guess than other breeds.

  • howdy i have been reading up on akitas but can not find good info on the differences between the two akitas im going to alaska so i nee the one with the warmer coat please get me hip on this

  • I wonder if "warmer coat" means that the Akita is a long-hair. If so, be prepared! You may have to have your vacuum cleaner serviced many times. No matter, Akitas are the best dogs ever!

  • nigga please u so stoopid

  • they arent that big

  • you'd have to see them in real life to gage perspective. A 145 lbs akita is not a little dog :-)

  • yeah but i had an akita that was almost 200lbs. he was 3.11ft . we never thot he was pure so for all we know he cood be malimute too!

  • Yeah, for sure he was mixed... Wow I'd love to see a photo, he must have been gorgeous! maybe mixed with a newf, or a saint, or a pyr, or ovcharka...

The akita standard says males are to be between 90 and 120 lbs, and over 120 lbs is considered huge and sometimes frowned upon by purists. Ah well. :-)

  • cute akitas, my akitas are only pups but they get big fast, my male is almost 115 pounds and hes only one and our female is 95? pounds and shes 9 months old. we have two puppies, one is pinto brindle and the other has a slip mask and is also brindle. do you show your dogs?

  • yes, they grow like weeds - enjoy your "puppies" now because in a couple of years they will be horses, LOL!

I don't show my dogs as my male has faults and my female is a rescue (no papers). Both are sterilized.

  • Wow, people have nothing better to do then complain about your beautiful dogs!

Some breeders breed for certain structure, coat type or temperment. Just because one of them might look a bit different doesn't mean it's not Purebred people!

    They both look wonderful! =P

  • I don't understand why everyone is saying it's not a full bred Akita. Yes an all black one is not pure bred, neither is an all white one. As you can see from this video it has a split mask (which many of them do have.) I have seen many champion sired Akitas with split masks.

  • Actually, that is also false... akitas do come in solid colours (including all black and all white), as per the AKC standard:

"Any color including white; brindle; or pinto. Colors are brilliant and clear and markings are well balanced, with or without mask or blaze. White Akitas have no mask. ."

You can google for Champion akitas in all white or all black, they're quite spectacular even if not extremely common.

  • so your akita is not a full breed , does it really matter in the end you love the dog and its part of your family ,i had a pure breed akita (khan ) payed $1,200 had him for 14 great years , i will buy again if i can find a breeder that breed's the old standard color .i had him mated twice he fatherd 14 akitas i should have keep two (stupid) me .

  • Am not sure what you mean by my dog not being a "full breed"... his parents and entire lineage are Canadian and American Champions from famous lines. I can assure you that akitas come in all different colors and patterns, my boy is called an "undermarked pinto with split mask". Very common in the breed... which you would know, if you knew anything about akitas ;-)

  • He must be thinking of the AKita Inu. American Akitas come in a variety of colors and patterns but Akita Inu are very strict on their colors and patterns.

  • i got a akita its 3 monthes old i got it for 500 but if i would of got it sooner it would of been 2000 so i waited and its going to be huge!!!!!!!!

  • cute i love akitas

  • lovely dogs !!! akitas r the best

  • This is a true Akita! A true fighting-dog. Akita isn't Husky !

  • does not look pure bred,

too short, too much dew lap

    check akita rescue (MARS)

    midwest akita rescue service

  • I'm sure his breeder (who owns both CH parents) would not be impressed by your comment... my boy is 28" at the withers so is not "too short" (funny what people assume...) and while yes he has too much dew lap, this is why he is neutered and not shown. Not all purebred akitas come out perfect and ready for the show ring. Nevertheless he is MY perfect akita and my best friend. The other akita is a rescue and I am familiar with MARS and their incredible work.

  • Nicely put. That's a very impressive dog. I also have a 1 yr old neutered male, though not as large as yours.

  • I agree this is not a pure bred at all, while i agree that their owners love them, be honest and do not call a mutt a pure bred.

  • i like how you ASSUME this is not a pure bred, i agree that it does not look pure bred but there is no way you can say that it is not a pure bred without actual knowledge. Beautiful dogs btw i hope to rescue one and i found a beautiful pure white one but i have an akita mix that dislikes other dogs. I still love her though.

  • I assume nothing, I am a Japanese Akita Expert, and I know pure blood when I see it, and for all those who claim to know the parents of the dogs, etc. etc. you got ripped off. Sometimes "bitches" get out and accidentally breed with other dogs, so unless you were sitting there watching the dogs copulate, and watched the "bitch" from conception to birth, then u are not ensured that it is a pure bred, which it is not. I know true Akitas, and it is unfair to hold your mutt to such high standards.

  • a pure bred akitas life holds no more value than any mutt. regardless my dog is an akita mix (not sure what shes mixed with)and looks almost like a pure bred besides her fur is not as thick and she is pretty short (and i made her fat :(lol). I just feel that your comment is disrespectful which is why i commented on it. I did not know you were an "expert" which is what you claim, not that ill ever really know that but I mean no disrespect to anyone.

  • If you are a Japanese Akita expert, then you surely know that the American Akita is almost a different breed now - there are different standards for each akita type (size, coat colours, etc).

    Just sayin' ;-)

  • How can you tell the Japanese and American Akitas apart? I have an Akita, full mask. But I don't know which one he is.

  • this is a pure bred American AKita....mr. expert

  • No actually it is not. Proven by the round head, rather than the square head, and long and thick muzzle. In addition the dewlap is not characteristic of Akitas. The legs are too short and stubby. The statement of fact that the dog is not pure bred is by no means a judgement or critique of the dog, it is a lovely dog that is obviously well taken care of and loved by its owner. And no, there is absolutley nothing wrong with your dog. It is simply not pure bred, simple as that.

  • did i even say anything about my Akita?

  • you think if i showed you my akita mix you can tell what she may be mixed with? shes 9 and far lol. but in my opinion could almost pass for a pure bred if she wasnt short and have thinner hair (i think).

  • amazing.

  • I'm looking to buy one I'm in the Dallas area got any recommendations?

  • are you looking for a breeder in the US or in Canada? I can recommend a few :-)

  • can you recommend a breeder?

  • LOL I don't think his Champion Akita parents would agree ;-)

  • can you recommend a breeder or a website?

  • Akitas De Macleod is possibly the best out there. Check them out

  • I will have to respectfully disagree... they are one of the worst backyard (read: puppymill) akita breeders in the united states.

They are well known in the akita community for producing massive amounts of poorly-bred dogs with no pedigrees whatsoever. Their dogs are never shown, never health tested and are very poor examples of the breed according to the Akita Standard.

They are decimating the akita gene pool and it's a crying shame :-(

  • ps: this was in reply to the person who left a comment stating that "MacLeod akitas were possibly the best out there", which is a giant falsehood.

  • lol thats a cross with a buldog or a staff or pitbull

  • Cool!

I have an Akita/Labrador and he is HUGE as well!

    xo

  • looking good, i have an akita too, cant wait to get another one
