DDeep1000...That is wild! I too had a 64 Valiant with the 225 (was originally my parents car), and a 1965 Chrysler Newport with a 383. I just sold the Newport about five years ago. Like you, I always loved MOPAR's, but couldn't afford a HEMI. I sure love my Maggie!

I bought a 2005 Magnum RT about three weeks ago, all stock. I recently put a K&N Cold Air Filter on it, a Flowmaster Force II Exhaust System, and a Hurst Shifter. I live in the country and there is a nice, wide open quarter mile straight road about a mile from me. I got the car back today and went to my test road, and I was shocked at the way this Maggie runs. Wow! I'm 58 years young and this thing makes me feel like a teenager again. Believe me, this is a HEMI...with 16 spark plugs!
@Tinstar2 Got mine early Nov. I plan the same mods to start with. Glad to know it made such a diff. 47yrs young. I grew up Mopar starting with a '64 Valiant and '65 Newport. 225 & 383 respectively. Never had much interest in any other brand. Just never could get my hands on a Hemi.
go buy a ram . who puts a hemi in a wagon its dumb. or who puts a hemi in a 4 door its dumb. i sold my hemi ram for a cummins. i bet i get better milage then your wagon and got 200 horse more with a 200 $ super chips. my hemi ram had a paxton charger she was running hot. your wagon would only becool with a paxton charger
@scatpack for a so called mopar guy ,whats with dissin the mag??if its dumb to put a high performance motor in a 4dr or wagon why do so many auto makers build them? ,and people buy them?case in point the Cadillac cts super charged v8 sedan., the fastest production car built in 2011,im not much of a gm guy but the magnum r/t or srt8 is no slouch !if everyone like only trucks like you it would be awfully boring! MOPAR OR NO CAR doesn't matter what model!!!!
good god people, who are arguing about the new hemis vs the old style! Some of us Mopar guys cant afford ,or cant locate a old dodge/Plymouth to restore or modify ,so we get the next best thing which would be a late model magnum or charger.,they are great cars ,sound good, look good, and can keep up with the best of the group out there on the street! ,so give some slack jack!!!
@iplayveryloud hey, mr Hemi know it all, what about the 331, or the 392, those are the original Hemi's, but II guess if it's not a 426, than it can't be a Hemi, right? Do you know what Hemi stands for? If you do, than you would know that any engine can be a Hemi if it has hemispherical heads, right?
@Ratmouth66 ,fyi, the new hemi as in the magnums/chargers are more than a trademark!the hemi head has been altered somewhat, and may not be completely hemispherical in shape, but its still a hemi!they made changes to the old style head so they could get more power out if a smaller engine!look it up if you dont agree!
i dont agree, and i have looked it up, and it said it has nothing in common with the original hemi engines...now have they had unique changes made to them? sure, maybe, i dunno, but they're not hemi's...
@vanillagrrilla Nice, i thought i read somewhere they were around 390 torque, might have been a story about someone who cammed their own though haha, cant wait for that new 6.4 Hemi
@vanillagrrilla if I am not mistaken dodge made the magnum from 05 till 08.the r/t had 345 hp @ the crank until about 07 and bumped the hp to 350,but all had much the same torque of 390 ! I own a 06 r/t and work as a tech @ a dodge dealer.
Dont get me wrong i love MOPAR and HEMIs but a "HEMI" is just a glorified engine with a name. some guy back in the day won a race and was asked "wht kind of motor u got"?? "Oh i got a HEMI" and then everyone started to get them. cause they thought they were great or special or sumtin shit u can give any SB or BB motor a name. drag race it n win and tell people the name of your motor and whala the new motor legacy could be born. and by the way FUCK CHEVY.
haha believe me when i say this, im an old-school V8 fan. BUT put in some high-lift long-duration cam and it'll sound equally as mean. Check out the cammed LS1's and all that.
People, if you new what you were talking about you can't compare real hemis to these "so called hemi's". Do some research on what a Hemi really is/was.
With old MOPAR, I have a 1969 530 horse Coronet, there's no smog control to muffle the sound. I have thermal coated long throw headers dumping into 3 inch pipes, going through 2 chamber Flowmasters. It's kinda unfair to compare old school to new school because of that.
The reason it does not sound like old school 426 hemi or 440 is simply its 345 cid. Probably an old school 340 would be a closer comparison. A392 or 426 stroker will sound at least as good as old school, esp if you put in a hot cam. Nice car, I have one similar , love it.
Is it available with manual trasmission? Almost all American cars exported here to Europe are automatic, I hate that. And the tendency is up, now you can't even get an E60 535d with a stick.
So I'd rather vote for the old "whales", may they be only 4spd, still have a clutch.
yes i can, see, look, "hemi's aren't the greatest sounding engine ever" there you go, said it hahaha, seriously not trying to be an asshole, just trying to get a laugh
Thanks for the reply. I put a Flowmaster exhaust on my 2000 Z28 and everynow and then you would hear a squeak from the exhaust pipes rubbing on something. Has your setup been trouble free?
only one problem, the brackets they sent with the kit were just a little to big where you connect the the front just after the cats. I was getting rubbing noises on turning, I didnt think it was the exhaust but after I took it to the dealer they said it was the brackets rubbing and they put smaller ones on. other then that no problems at all.
I was wondering about that. My kit didn't fit perfect and I had to do some tweaking to get it to fit. I had thought about ordering mufflers instead of the whole kit. I may lose a few HP, but it should sound better.
