Actually, the big thing about GM Sniper II, it's the single most powerful GM made during 0079 (granted near the very end). It doesn't even need to be used for sniping, like the final mission in the Dreamcast game where you play as the White Dingo team leader through their missions. It's used the same as any GM, but better. They received three Sniper IIs for the last mission in the game, which also happened to be on the last day of the war when Zeon declared its defeat.
@asabarnes there is actually a need for a sniper variant. smaller beam rifles have smaller power outputs and therefor less range, as the "beam" will "fade" over time. in fact, "beam" rifles and "beam" sabers are nothing more than concentrated minovski particles expelled to as a weapon. a "beam" saber's "beam" is actually just a concentrated field of said particles. in fact, beam sabers do NOT cut through things, so much as they heat the hell out of them and push everything in it's way APART.
@asabarnes furthermore, a larger beam rifle, i.e., a beam "sniper" rifle, would require a special type of mobile suit that requires a much higher tolerance for the super heated effect that the rifle would give off. there were special cooling tanks present for the GM sniper in 08th MS team if i recall correctly. and the GM sniper must also have the ability to be a "mobile cooling generator" of sorts for the amount of power and heat that the "sniper" rifle puts out. do you see what i mean now?
The White Dingo GMs are definitely the best ones in the series before they started making the green ones from in Zeta Gundam and beyond. Either that or the only fully customized GMs in the series.
Can't help but get the feeling that the later models after 0083 were made to be lightweights except for GM III and maybe the Jegan. For god's sake, at least there should've made a Red Nemo.
@TheHiddenBoss By 0083, the bulk of Earth's forces were either leftovers from the war, or likely cheap peacekeeper models. The only high-end suits under development were the new gundam models (and the gerbera tetra) and those were singular suits, as likely to test new technologies as actually be put into the field. Of course, after Stardust, the military swung the other direction, with the crazed leadership and even crazier weapons buildup. No different from the end of WWII, really.
GM sniper II, the greatest of all the GMs.

@gundamcollector No I like the show very much. I don't like Gm Snipers, Nor the idea of long range mobile suit battles.
Sound like a bore

@asabarnes To each his own, I say. The RGM-79sp GM Sniper II is my personal favorite suit from Gundam (that includes SEED, 00, Wing, etc)
