  • >HOW duz THIS even EXIST ???

  • so sinister and hard rocking in the same time that it reminds ME of the future black sabbath sound , but frankly the vocalist chris relph is not on the same level AS robert plant , he later on formed a fantastic group called armaggedon which issued one only lp in 1975 but sadly passed away soon after that in 1976 ...

  • The genesis of zeppelin!

  • Robert Plant sure is messing up the lyrics

  • @JackietheJackAss that's NOT PLANT!! it's keith relf. btw, this was called "i'm confused" when the yardbirds did it; it didn't become "dazed & confused" until zeppelin...

  • PUFFY SHIRT!

  • This is like an argument for Robert Plant.

  • I really dig Keith on all the great Yardbird songs but by this point Jimmy seems to need a somewhat more dynamic vocalist

  • drummer, nowhere to john bonham, singer nothing next to robert plant, the bassist isnt as good as john paul jones, and the guitarist is crap compared to Jimmy Pa....

oh wait, that dosnt work =P woo hoo jimmy page =D

  • Now I know why the French had their late 60's in the late 50's...Dan O'Niallain, Grafton, Ma.

  • Never seen this before

  • i love em AND Zeppelin as well.......but 67......i wouldnt really care with hendrix around

  • 4:30 must've influenced black sabbath for paranoid

  • @TrendCrush666 Communication Breakdown was probably another one.

  • @TrendCrush666 That's obvious, ... it's the same riff and paranoid was written in like two hours in urgency.

  • that telecaster jimmy page is just so cool lookin, i always wished hed played it more through the zep years. the stairway solo is recorded on a telecaster and im fairly sure its that one. Rock on Jimmy you legend!

  • Robert sung this song way better

  • @mychem1914777 In his prime, he would have sung 90% of all songs ever written better than the original. But he wasn't around big time yet, so this would still have been somewhat groundbreaking.

  • LOL! It is like Led zeppelin with a bad singer!

  • zeppelin is zilch without the yardbirds.......

  • i woulda like to see the yardbirds stick around just a bit longer for that heavy psychedelic sound like think about and stroll on and especially this here

most people might not think it but this is easily in my oppinion psychedelic doom at its earliest form

  • This is so startling, i thought page saw Jake Holmes play this and did his own (original) interpretation with zeppelin. I just don't know what to think anymore.

  • now you know the truth.....Zeppelin is nothing without the Yardbirds......

  • That's true.

The Yardbirds had played a show in NYC with Jake Holmes & The Youngbloods, & shortly thereafter, Page bought Holmes' album & him & Jim McCarty worked together to rearrange it, or "yardbirdize" it.

When they broke up, & Page formed Zeppelin, they did yet another interpretation (much in the same vein as The Yardbirds), and that's around when Page started denying that "Dazed & Confused" was somebody else's song.

  • @asmorgan88 Jake's band was named the Youngbloods? That sounds modern (lol). The music of this version is pretty much the music of the Zepp version while the lyrics are clearly Jake Holmes', right? Along with the music of the original song, ofcourse.

  • @NeverAloneForever

No - Jake Holmes was not in The Youngbloods.

The concert that The Yardbirds played with Jake Holmes also had The Youngbloods on the bill.

Yeah - this version is what would eventually become Zeppelin's version, while Zeppelin altered the lyrics, and juiced up the bowed section, as well as amped up the guitar solo too.

The Jake Holmes version is good for what it is, but doesn't have that distinct B power chord riff or a solo to write home about. Page made the song.

  • @asmorgan88 Thanks for reinforming me. I guess this makes Page like Robert Johnson. Nobody could put it together like he could they said.

  • You're rong VoxMax it's a french bend who play this track, which will be a tribute by Led Zep ... Here it's The yabird ( sorry for my english... I'm french xD :$ )

  • Jimmy Page with singer/harmonica player Keith Relf, drummer Jim McCarty and

    rhythm guitarist/bassist Chris Dreja! Awesome!

    Historic video !!!

  • Great! I thought it was a LZ composition

Now im thinking which one is better

Its to time to learn more about this band

  • It's not a LZ or Yardirds composition, its just Page's genius

And it works far better with Plant Bonham and Jones !

  • I'm dazed and confused as to why the French host is still up there 'dancing' along with The Yardbirds-

trying to glom on to the talent I suppose..

  • and why not ?

  • @pipo3030 because !

  • @gouguelimougueli keep your sense of humor ....

  • @gouguelimougueli ... and by the way, find us another record from other that period tv shows disovering those milestones !

  • @faeryquene Glom... someone's being reading The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test lol.

  • Comment removed

  • pretty freakin interesting to see where led zep was born.

  • I Heard This Song Was Originally Written By Some Solo Acoustic Player In The Early 60s And Not Jimmy Page. But It Usually Says Page Next To The Song IAn The Usual Track Listing.

  • Jake Holmes

  • The studio version of this song by Jake Holmes is on hzh27's channel if u want to hear it and I am telling every one else about it at the same time here.

  • I own the album Above Ground Sound

  • once you have heard the led zep version with plant's unique vocal interpretation this falls a bit flat even though the band is up to scratch, the vocalist cant hack it.

  • Which Zep version are you talking about?? I ve been to over 20 Zep performances from 69 - 75 ( have you seen any? ), seen and listened to some amazing stuff, some mediocre stuff and definitely some absolutly rubbish performances that I felt I was robbed!

  • I like the yardbirds and all, but come on, any led zeppelin performance of this song is better. Face it, this vocalist doesn't come anywhere near the intensity of robert plant.

  • Hmmm.....and i suppose you have heard every single Zep live performance of D&C? Ever been to actual Zep concert? I am glad Relf doesn't come near Plants vocals, because sometimes Plants cat in heat vocals can be very annoying. But thats my own opinion and its based on the fact I have actually been to many Zep concert from 69 - 75.

  • Look, I'm not refering to any particular performance. This singer sounds too nice for such an evil song. I like this singer, but not for this music.

  • he is right Plant has the magic touch.

  • Your opinion and you are welcome to it, but Keith Relf is doing pretty well for a guy with only one lung.

It's hard to be first to do a song that becomes well-known later, however, sometimes the original is not the best.

Also, for anyone that has played guitar, Fender Telecasters weigh quite a bit more than Stratocasters. Why do some guitarists lean forward during solos? They're being WEIGHED DOWN :^)

  • Thanks for that bit of trivia about the weight of a Fender Telecaster-I've always wondered why many rock guitarists seem to hunch over so much. And these are guys-I can't imagine how a woman like say Lita Ford would hold such an instrument for any length of time.

  • too bad zepp stole the song..

  • No not deaf. I've just always believed that The Yardbirds were most underated of all the mid-60's British bands.

  • I believe so too. This is a great performance, like the Led Zep version is ofcourse too, more LZ wise.

  • When you hear how Led Zep interpreted this song just a couple of years later, you realize that the Yardbirds where a succession of amazing lead guitarists trying to fit in a very average pop band. If you don't agree you must be deaf.

  • WHAT?!... cannot listen...

  • a valiant effot by the yardbirds,but

they just couldn't keep up with jimmy,

    especially what was to follow!

  • Great bit of history - I now know where Led Zep got it from. Thank God for Robert Plant - this is beyond this vocalist's ability. Jimmy still has "it" - I see he used a bow from way back. Cool 5*

  • Actually they "got" (stole) it from Jake Holmes who wrote it and recorded it first.

  • not to mention he "got" (stole) that bowing bit from Eddie Phillips of the Creation

  • What's wrong with playing someone, learning a technique from them, and applying it later because you liked it?

  • What a great song Just wonderful

Right before The New Yardbirds. But you know the History The New Yardbirds Name would go over like a Lead Ballon.

RIP Keith Moon. You helped a Great band

  • Anyone know about this tele?

  • He got the tele from Jeff Beck.

  • THis guy has no idea where jimmy is headed with this

  • They seem to have had trouble keeping up with Jimmy...conceptually. Thank GOD for Zeppelin!

  • Metal in its earliest form

  • anyone know the original words to this song?

Page with Zep obviously changed 'em. ~cg5

  • I'm dazed and confused,

Is it stay, is it go?

    I'm being abused,

And I think I should know,

    Come on baby,

    I'm starting to crack,

If you're out to get me,

    You're on the right track.

    Hey!

    Hey, hey!

  • I'm dazed and confused,

    Hanging on by a thread,

    Come on baby,

    Do you want me dead?

I can arrange that for a dollar or two.

    I can't remember,

    Anything about you.

    Hey, hey!

    Hey, hey!

  • I'm dazed and confused, Hanging on by a thread, I'm being abused, I'd be better off dead, If you're out to get me, You're on the right track, Quittin' teasin', I'm starting to crack. Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Hey, hey, hey!
  • Or this version, which is here! I'm dazed and confused, Is it stay, is it go? Give me a clue, 'Cos I just want to know. Give me a clue as to where I am at, Feel like a mouse, and you act like a cat. Yeah I'm, Yeah I'm, Yeah I'm, Yeah I'm,
  • I'm dazed and confused, Hangin' on by a thread, I've been abused, I'd be better off dead, Can't stand the heat, And I'm starting to crack, If you're out to get me, You're on the right track. Hey, hey! Hey, hey! Hey, hey!
  • I'm dazed and confused,

Is it stay, is it go?

    I still love you,

But I still want to know,

Secrets are fun to a certain degree,

This one's no fun 'cause the secret's on me.

    Yeah, yeah,

    Hey, hey!

  • I'm dazed and confused,

Is it stay, is it go?

    I've been abused,

    And I sure wanna know,

Give me a clue as to where I am at,

Feel like a mouse, and you act like a cat.

    Yeah!

    Hey, hey, hey, hey!

  • Jimmy Page got the idea for playing guitar with a violin bow from Eddie Phillips, guitarist from a British band called The Creation. The Creation recorded two songs with Eddie playing in this style in 1966. The Creation also performed & recorded a version of Hey Joe before Hendrix did (but it wasn't released until after Hendrix's version came out). If you listen to it, it has the lead guitar intro & bass riff that Hendrix used!

  • I think Eddie Phillips started using the bow in 1964.

  • Whaouh!!! çà'm'fait hachement plaisir de revoir ce morceau dont je m'en souviens personnellement au foyer du lycée le samedi aprèm'.. c'était ce qu'allait devenir le LedZep par la suite, sans Keith Relf ! Mémorable !

  • Oh my Christ!Love Keiths spoken word over dopey Percy!

    Mercie Beacoup!

  • C'mon! Relf was probably the most undynamic singer in rock. Even though i like him on certain songs, he wasn't in the class of Plant, Jagger , Marriott or Lennon and Daltrey. If he were, then the Yardbirds would have become huge and stayed together. The rest of the band was great musically though.

  • Keith is trippin' balls! Thanks for posting

  • I need a shirt like the one Jimmy Page is wearing.

  • yeah man tahts what im talking about i mean if i could wear any suit to a prom or something formal like that

it would be that suit page is wearing without a doubt

but u could imagine if by some miracle u were to come across one it would be really damn expensive im sure that is if u could find it most of pages stuff was custom handmade 1 of a kinds

  • stupéfiant!:)

  • très cool la guitare avec un archet
