I don't quite get all the hate either, I happen to listen probably exclusively to baroque music and I love this guy's passion. His arias in Ercole sul Termodonte are powerful and moving.
Afther he do alot mistakes in Romatinc and bel canto opera...he trying now do the same in Barroco Opera...I thinking people be crazy more and more....Like Cecilia Bartoli, She just fight to be a Mezzo, than some day she awakens and recording CASTA DIVA. GOD LORD! THIS PEOPLE JUST WANT SALES CD's... MIDIA...THIS MEN NOW MAKE BARROC RECORDINS...WHERE THIS WILL STOPING...HE MORE THAN NEVER IS BARITONO...JUST THIS BARITONO.

I personally think he sounds wonderful in this. He was overblowing his voice with the heavier verdi roles (don carlo) that he had been doing. This suits his voice perfectly, and this is actually the best he has sounded to me. just b/c it is different snobs wont like him. As an educated singer, get over yourselves, opera is changing and theres nothing youc an do about it. it has to change with the rest of the world.
Am curious why this poster has been 'marked down' as much as they have. I've seen Villazon live 8 times, and each time he has sounded like he's in vocal trouble. Not here.
Yes, the he is not a baroque singer, and Handel sound strange... I prefer baroque vocals, but I think that Vilazon's voice is great. Interesting solid timbre, he sound like a baritone.
why because he isnt backing off his sound. He is singing correctly...??? what is it with u Villazon smashers...it is nice...just not sung with a small measly ass mosquito voice
You're a bit harsh on him. What do you find so bad in his performance ? I think he's just brilliant here. His voice is definitely suited to Baroque music.
I love Rolando. He is superb. His voice gives me cold shivers.

It's a strange thing. Baroque music is well out of his vocal fach, but this is best I've heard him sing.

hmm. Ich like rolande villazon, but i do think, for the reasons asisecanta mentioned, baroque does not suit him - His opera singing is sublime though

La parodia di un tenore da Opera Seria. Anzi, la parodia di un tenore!

No baroque-style (this seems verismo!), no high notes, no correct legato, no homegene registers... not good

de alguien que tiene como nick "asi se canta" no se puede esperar demasiada amplitud de miras. No sólo hay una manera de cantar, ni de interpretar.
