Hi all !!! at the April 2010 Nilegroup Festival had workshop with Abir !!

I have to say that it was one of the best workshops I've ever had (and i have sooo many done lol)

Emotional teacher, teqnical, caring for the students, giving body and soul in the class ! she tought Tamra Henna song, yes she does also privites ! if you are in Cairo search for her !

It's wonderful that there is young dancers , who are able to understand and appreciate the way ABIR feels and works WITH the music and melody ,as opposite to todays fashion,where slick choreography,theatrical effects and dramatic pose's just manage to chop up the music and mask the individual personality of the dancer.

Yes, I try to steer clear of strict choreography - trying to teach students to improv though is so hard, they are so reserved (british!), I think alot of young and new dancers to bellydance are often so used to choreog, or being given choreographies, that it stops them listening to the music and instead they are just dancing by numbers. I keep telling them that choreography is not always dancing and that they have to learn to listen and feel the music. Ah.. its so hard!
