while we're waiting for this "new energy race" to pan out and be actually economical viable, shouldn't we drill for more oil in our own country? I'm all for more efficient and renewable energy sources, but it just sounds stupid to devote all your effort towards technology that won't be viable for another 10-15 years, while not worrying about your current energy needs today.
It's definitely worth some consideration, but our oil companies already own a lot of drilling land around the world that they choose NOT to pump from. The reason for that is that they can wait until prices are at their peak before raising production, ensuring they get maximum profit from crude oil.
Sure, giving them permission to drill from more spots would help the supply, but it would probably help us more if we busted the several trans-national oil companies into smaller outfits.

No, since it doesn't take electricity to run a gas engine. A laser enduced fusion reaction takes a massive amount of power to initiate, fusing two big particles into one smaller one. while we're waiting for this "new energy race" to pan out and be actually economical viable, shouldn't we drill for more oil in our own country? I'm all for more efficient and renewable energy sources, but it just sounds stupid to devote all your effort towards technology that won't be viable for another 10-15 years, while not worrying about your current energy needs today.

It's definitely worth some consideration, but our oil companies already own a lot of drilling land around the world that they choose NOT to pump from. The reason for that is that they can wait until prices are at their peak before raising production, ensuring they get maximum profit from crude oil.
Sure, giving them permission to drill from more spots would help the supply, but it would probably help us more if we busted the several trans-national oil companies into smaller outfits.

The law of conservation doesn't apply to this because that's not what I'm talking about. Acheiving over 100% efficiency means that they are able to produce more electricity from the fusion reaction than is required to cause it in the first place. For example, it takes 10mj of power to cause a fusion reaction, you are able to produce 11mj of power from this reaction, you have now acheived over 100% efficiency.

No, since it doesn't take electricity to run a gas engine. A laser enduced fusion reaction takes a massive amount of power to initiate, fusing two big particles into one smaller one. That releases alot of energy, we catch that energy to produce electricity. If we catch enough we can make enough power to run the fusion laser and have a surplus, aka over 100% effecient.

Do people not see laws are being passed to limit your freedom. Patriot act ect. I mean come on. Going to war without declaring it. I don't think they will succeed. That doesn't mean they wont try. Matter of fact i think whatever power they had is slipping.
