  • fuck this movie . With whom Natasha sleeps ? is there any kissing with andrei in the novel ?

  • I would like to say that this movie,is something unique, something that is without dobut the best. The plot is amaizing thanks to Leo Tolstoy, and the charatcters are genious, especialy Napoleon and Andrei Bolkonsky(which has become my favourite movie character).Simply the best...

  • Fuck! what babes

  • Should two people get different answers for the same equation, they will compare their answers against the equation to find out which is right, rather than trying to determine a relationship between the answers. So why are people comparing this to Bondarchuk's movie? This version, very vividly mirrors the novel, with great differences in character portrayal, events and most themes. It worries me that some may, upon watching this, choose not to read the book and lose out on the full experience.

  • 1:15 what the freak? there were never any nude scenes in the book!

  • what is the waltz at the begining of this video? its driving me insane

  • @alexia513

the watlz was written by armenian composer Aram Khachaturian and is called “masquerade waltz”

  • Where can I find this? I really want to watch it. I 've looked on netflix and everything.

  • Don't really know if a Khachaturian waltz is really the most appropriate one...

  • it actually looks pretty good i love Clémence Poésy she's so cute!

  • can anyone tell me how to download videos fro youtube

  • @MsMANOFWAR666 There are some programmes or software. I use vidtomp3.com and it is quite fast.

  • Problem with Natasha is not that she is ugly - the problem is that the actress is much too old.

  • anyone know where i can watch this?

  • i watched this in german(i am german)...and wow! you HAVE to watch it....might also be good for teens...im 12 and loved it ^ ^

  • I am Russian. I read an original. actors were correctly picked up. natasha must be ugly - Tolsyoy describes its heartfelt beauty thick. she does not look Russian, but she the same living as in a book, the same cheerful. actors played fine!!!

  • @GreenLizard93 i agree

but y is she blond? :(

  • @GreenLizard93 I don`t agree . Natasha is charming and beautiful in the book. Only sometimes she looks almost ugly when she is upset.

  • The song that Natasha plays on the piano, does anyone knows how is it called?Thank you

  • the russian one is waaay better

  • War and Peace as the novel goes is much more descriptive and less bland than the movies even though the book is the 12th longest of all time with 560,000 words in the English translation. Nevertheless this trailer is great for the education of young minds of future novelists. War is not a game Pierre!

  • does the russian war and peace even have madame bourienne?? i didn't notice her in it

  • Comment removed

  • The waltz is from Khatchaturian's Masquerade Suite. It is a great tune.

  • I must know the name of the theme (00:00- 00:50), help?

  • Is wonderfull

  • Though I've still yet to see this version, I don't know how it will compare to the 1970's BBC production with Tony Hopkins as Pierre, which was great.

  • @forloveoffilm

I agree...the BBC version is amazing.

  • The reason why I liked this version so much was because it inspired me to read the novel which was absolutely spectacular! I finished it this morning, and it made me aware of the many many many flaws of this mini series but I still like it. The Russian version, though seems to take on the scope and feeling of the novel better than this one and was much much better, but I still like this one!!

  • Both this version and the 1968 one have their faults. The Audrey Hepburn version doesn't exist to me. The one thing I don't like about War and Peace 1968 is that Pierre is portrayed as a well-educated bumbling idiot.

This version however, has a blonde Natasha, which is wierd, since I've always imagined her as a brunette.

I wish that an exclusively Russian remake could be made, with the characters portrayed as they're supposed to be, but I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon.

  • Seems to be an interesting interpretation. I'm going to watch it, but still I expect that it won't be as great as was Russian movie of 1968. This is too British. Only Russians can make this movie as it should be, show the Russian soul.

  • Didn't spot many Britishers and never seen this on British TV. It's too long for our minute attention spans and doesn't feature Dames Judi Dench, Eileen Atkins; Michael Gambon or poke-bonnets; those essentials for the Sunday-night autumn season.

  • @AnDrJuXa86 can u tell me how to download videos from it

  • Could anyone tell me what is the name of the song at the end of the clip(8:28) please??Thanks!!

  • Voyna i Mir 1968 much better

  • music wrote Russian composer Прокофьев

  • that music is beautiful!!

  • Can somebody say, who did write the musik at the begining of this clip, please!!

    Thanks

  • It´s the "Masquerade Waltz" by Aram Khachaturyan , written 1941.

  • To be frank, I don't think I'm going to love this movie as much as I love the Audrey Hepburn version!

  • Voyna i Mir 1968 is real. The battle scenes are real. Everything was real. Great attention was put into the movie to make it seem good. Voyna i Mir 1968 was the closest to the book (which I loved).

I guess that is why I am so critical about War and Peace. The book was great, the Russian movie was great, but this one should be euthanized. It should be euthanized because it has no potential. The second I saw Natasha the movie went downhill. A blonde Natasha, give me a break. This movie sucks.

  • Benasur,

Nothing against ya, but the music is clearly out of sync with the video

  • does anyone know where can i find the soundtrack?

  • where can you buy this?

  • I liked a video of this "War and Peace".

    I am a Japanese,;

so,of this version "War and Peace",I have not watched .

Is this a movie? Is it a drama?

By the production of what country, who is a supervisor?

In addition, please teach the name of two starring.

  • this is from the tolstoy novel , so I considered a drama , it was presented as a miniseries with colaboration from several countries , including germany ,france ,and I believe UK for instance natascha is play by a french actress name clemence posey and pyort (pier)i dont know the spelling is german but I dont know his name sorry

  • And Italy... Loads of Italian actors in this, plus Poland, Spain... It's a massive euro production.

  • the book is amazing, one of the best i have ever read, full of true emotions and the characters seem so real so human, sadly this movie isn't even near to tolstoy's story. just another good russian book turned into a stupid english movie.

  • when i was at school, i thought i would die while reading it...

  • Does anybody know what piece Natasha is playing at 3:20? It sounds really familiar to me.

  • It's Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata

  • Thanks a lot!!!

  • Free will and Necessity are the main two factors that we as individaul are constantly struggling between, this is what Tolstoy asserts in this book in the epilogue. A very nice read, he brings out the best of humanity.

  • I just can't watch this film. The ideas of Tolstoly are totally lost, Characters are distorted, it seems that those, who made this film didn't even read the whole book, so much moment are false. If they wanted to make a simple pop love story, they shouldn't touch russian classic, particularly such as Tolstoy!

  • I also red the book and I think that this is a fantastic film, though the plot is not completely the same and some characters like Anna Pawlowna, Ippolit or Bilibin are not mentioned. It's impossible to put the more than 250 characters from the book into a film.

  • Oh my god. Does anybody want to show all 250 characters from the book?! I speak about the main ideas of Tolstoy and that characters in this film have nothing in common with Tolstoy's characters. This are not our Natasha, Bolkonsky, Pier, Maria. This are primitive people from soap opera films. You have to know that there is a great difference between banal movies for entertainment and Tolstoy's books.

  • h, i'm sorry I wrote from my brother's account. All responses to me!

  • I don't thinks so. These are not that versatile characters from the book, but they also aren't primitive people from soap opera. Have you seen the complete movie?

  • They are primitive in comparison with Tolstoy's characters, or if like it more it is a primitive representation of his characters! I only want the name of this film not to be connected with Tolstoy. This is a wrong reflection of his art. I don't argue that this film may be interesting, of course it can because it is based on the plot of Tolstoy (who was a great writer from every quarter), but it is a wrong reflection of Tolstoy's ideas, of Russians,of our literature, which are much more deep.

  • I so sorry again!

  • so response to my account!

  • He is philosopher, great artist, psychologist everything in his book connected with russian culture and history. If they don't know about it enough, if they are not even interested in the philosophic problems ща the book, why, why they try to work with it?

  • They only spoils it. And for me as a representative of Russian nation is a shame to watch this film, in which nothing is showed in its true value. Just very sad....((

  • I don't like Natasha Rastova in this film....Natasha is not looks like Russian women. I don't understand why this role have given to foreign actress?

  • wait..didnt bolkonsky die in Austerlitz? -___- why did he speak to Napoleon?

  • No....Bolkonsky does not die in Austerlitz. Andrey has been wounded

  • Are you sure? didn't Napoleo say 'good deaath' after seeing Bolkonsky's body?

  • Napoleon thought he was dead because Bolkonsky didnt move, he was just looking at the sky, asking himself about the sense of life, so it was a nice looking death to Napoleon to die in that position.

  • so he faked his death and played dead in front of his hero? To me that sounds very un-bolkonsky...

  • He never faked his death, he was badly wounded and was contempating life and death whilst clutching a Russian flag. Unable to move, this is how Napoleon saw him and reguarded it as a good way to die, till Bolkonsky moved, whereupon Napoleon had his personal physician tend him.

  • in my opinion, the movie of Fedor Bondarchuk is much better than this one. some important facts are missed in this film, such as mason theme and others.

however clemans poesea (natasha) is pretty good

  • the name's sergey, not fedor bondarchuk.

    x

  • Scale of Bundachuk's version is IMMENSE :)

  • this is the best film ever,i'm sure. and book...oh god,i adore that book!!

  • it was jointly filmed by Russia, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain. Andrei Bolkonskii is played by italian, Natasha is french, and Pier Bezukhov is german. such an international cast. it's not entirely based on a book, they made it like a love story, however i liked it very much.

  • this promo is enough to convince me not to watch the rest of the movie - a melodrama rather than russian epic.

  • Which version is this?

  • Which version is this?

  • Sad about the boy who gets killed at 7.15.

  • holy cow WHERE CAN I GET THIS MOVIE?????

  • @dulcimerkj52 On dvd :)

  • Do you konw whot is the name of first song (waltz)?

  • Aram Khachaturian- Waltz form 'Masqarade'.

  • well, it's well done indeed but this is simply... it's not Russia. This is the way Europeans imagine Russia could possibly be =)

everything there is kinda... too clean, somehow :P The older version was breathtaking.

  • oooh yeaaaah !!!

  • I think the movie is done wel, obviously nott a low budget film. But the changes in some places are just...agh! They end up oversimplifing things. And after having read the book it is fairly annoying.

  • i agree - but its really hard to make em so alike ya know

but yes id wish for them to keep everything the same if it were up to me

  • english is not my mother language , is spanish in which do you think is better to read the book, i dont like tranlation but I REALLY don´t know i word of russian

  • i have da dvd in Russian and i love it! i didnt really get the Russian version of war and peace, but this one is clearer. but probably cuz im quite young to understand it. my mum read da book when she was 16, and she says she was too young 4 it, so..

    thax 4 puting this

  • does anyone know if this is out on dvd, or if not when?

  • @garageflower2002 Yes, it is.

  • Niriel sie tym podnieca xD

  • Andrey Bolkonskii samii lytshii

  • I luv this movie! Where can I find it!

What do you think about the book because I am going to read War and Peace!?

  • It's taking too long time to read this book. I have read only 3 books of War And Peace. 1 left. Tolstoi is a very good athor, one of the best in the world. But i don't like when he describ very much

  • you have to like history

  • I DON'T LIKE HISTORY BUT I STARTED TO READ THIS BOOK AND I THINK tHAT IT'S AMAZING!

  • i've watched it recently and i'm impressed!!

    amazing story:)

  • Chaczaturian - Walc z "Maskarady".

  • It's international movie:D

Music was coposed by Jan A.P Kaczmarek:D

    He's from Poland:)

  • Kto by nie uwielbiał Kaczmarka??

  • Alessio Boni - Andrzej Bołkoński the best!!!

  • I love Andrey Bolkonsky!! I from Russia!!!!!

  • I love this film! It's amazing :))) And moved me so much...

  • Alessio Boni(Andriej Bołkoński) :-) I love him :-*

  • It's the girl who played Fleur in Harry Potter?

  • Yes ;)

  • Yes. She's Clemence Poesy.

  • She's french!=D

    Elle joue vraiment trés bien!!

  • So?

  • Yes it is Clemence Poesy a French actress

  • Yes it is Clémence Poesy, a french actress

  • I think she is the perfect Natacha. I was at the play in St Petersbourg as a producer, and it was amazing. A pitty I couldnt have a chat with her...

  • It is maybe is voice which makes me think that. She makes her own voice in french but I think she doesn't suceed in it

  • Well, in spanish the dubbing is great, it has been done by Televisión Española, and it sounds fine...i dont speak french so i cant judge.

  • I love this song but I don't know what's that song call.

  • Masquerade Waltz by Aram Khachaturian

  • Ouch, that acting looks bad. What is this, Masterpiece Theater with a Welsh bar wench playing Natasha? Seriously, the Bondarchik version is one of the finest films ever made, why would I check this out based on this preview?

  • Well, I wouldn't like my children to watch this movie - they will get Tolstoy wrong. Natasha, indeed, doesn't suite this movie, but I wouldn't like to argue about that. It's not the matter of being cute or ugly it's just the matter of being suitable.

  • i agree. rent a russian movie made i believe in 1968. it's a master piece, all other War and Peace movies- nothing.

  • I have watched Bondarchuk's War and Peace. And I have watched American-Italian War and Peace as well. It was shot in 1956 and it has Audrey Hepburn as Natasha. it's better, than the newest one. though, Bondarchuk's version is the best in my opinion

  • We saw the first Episode yesterday here in Portugal. Good!

  • The main problem for me is, that this movie looks too "western" (as it seems from this trailer). In Tolstoy's book and Bondarchuk's movie you can see the greatness of russian soul and land, you understand that land, air, water and infinite distances are forming those people and their living philosophy more, then in any other country. I hope you understand me. I am afraid that this version degrade Tolstoy's masterpiece only into banal love story.

  • I agree with you : the russian movie is a masterpiece in itself, not mentioning Tolstoy's book. Nevertheless this is still a good movie, I think, although too romantically oriented.

  • creature500, I totally agree with you in regards to this series. I see two major problems with it 1. The choice of many actors for is poor, particually I was dissapointed with Clemence's Nastasha Rostova. 2. Script adaptation. The reason Bondarchuk's movie is so great is that he followed closely the book. Cheers

  • Yes, a shame, isn´t it? That such a masterpiece ios degraded into a "Love and war" melodrama.

  • At first I am not from english speaking country (I am from Czech Republic) so excuse me please, because my English is not good.

I hope this trailer is joke. I definitely do not think that Clemence is ugly, she would be perect Sonya, but this is minor problem for me (I fell in love with Lyudmila Savelyeva as Natasha, her dance scene is amazing :-))

  • that scene was a masterpiece, Bondarchuk was a genius.

  • I had absolutely no idea the Russians and French spoke English.

  • Hope this was a sacrasm :) No they didn't. Russian aristocracy spoke French and Russian at that time period. I think the reason for English is that the actors were chosen from all over Europe (France, Italy, Russia, Germany, Romania, England etc...) . Since English is a universal language right now, you can make conclusions.

  • Well I hope the Soviet version would not be better. And by looking at this trailer..it does look sismilar to the original soviet version. And the actors look a little similar....but they should have definatly picked a better looking girl for this movie. I have he SOviet version and I really like it. I am now reading the Novel...and I hope this modern version will be good too. Oh and one more DETAIL..Russians only were treanch coats in the winter..not in normal seasons like they show here.

  • Well I hope the Soviet version would not be better. And by looking at this trailer..it does look sismilar to the original soviet version. • AAA, I got a DVD!!! It is in my native Russian and in the language it was originally filmed(English). It's perfect!

  • she is ugly and doesn't look russian. period

  • so why did they decide to make Natasha a blonde? not that i have a huge problem but she has dark hair in the book :/

  • You are correct and it is something about which one wonders. However, if the "big picture" is good I can deal with it. Pierre was also fat according to Tolstoy. But this Pierre actually seems quite goodlooking. However, when it comes to studly, the actor playing Prince Andre is really hot!

  • true that- if the movie itself is well-done i wouldn't care much, i just thought it was strange. I haven't seen the film yet since i'm currently in the US and not sure how to get it!

  • I too am at my wits end trying to procure this DVD. I first read this novel when I was 13 for the 1st time. The Bondarchuk film is good with great moments but it's not perfect and is dated! The 1956 version is also dated with errors but not without its charm. There is also a BBC TV one that is actually close to the story. But as it's from the cold war era in the 1970's it had to be filmed in the UK in great country houses. That was all that was available. Pas parfait mais pas mal aussi.

  • well good luck to your serch for the DVD- i hope i'll find one soon as well, me and my Bulgarian friend really want to see it! i want to see something GOOD-QUALITY uh priceless

  • @mariiiya No she hasn't. Tolstoj doesn't describe her hair, only her dark eyes :)

  • I really think she stands perfect the comparation with audrey

  • Cher Mathi, Bien dit! J'adore Audrey.

  • Poor Natasha, a girl with_so_non_slavic_face... The movie doesn't show Russia. Sorry, but only russians can make movies about Russia...

  • FREAKING 10 MINS!!!

  • Nice TV film !

Alexander Beyer and Alessio Boni are both wonderful !

And also the rest of actors.

  • Alessio Boni est trop beau ^^

  • Clémence is beautiful.

  • I like this movie!!! God job!!!!

  • it feels wierd to see Clemence play in this movie after seeing HP4=b

    xoxo

  • As I know this walze is from another russian film, but I have never seen it.

  • Anyone, do you know what waltz is playing in the background?

  • I thought it was tchaikovsky but I couldn't find it. The man in charge of music is Jan A.P. Kaczmarek a terrific Polish composer. He has written several movie scores. Look him up. Im sure you will eventually get information online about the soundtrack. It is early for this. He also wrote some music for the series and it is possible that he wrote this rather fast waltzy thing that starts the promo.

    Peace to all

  • Thank you kindly.

  • It is a waltz from "Masquerade" by A.Khachaturian. If you want, I can give you a link for this melody:)

  • Sorry, but it's just a parody! In spite of all my respect for european cinematograph European just can't make russian films.. can't show our feellings... we have different national dsiposition, temper.... and Natasha of course isn't pretty but not so ugly... and have RUSSIAN face!!

  • Natasha is the one who played Fleur Delacour in Harry Potter.

I Think she is really pretty. But thats an opinion.

  • Does anyone know what waltz is playing in the beginning?

  • anyway she played and she will be known for years and you will be forgotten :)))
