I remember reading a story somewhere that there was a theory that a meteor swarm hit the British Isles in the early middle ages, around the year 500 AD. Most of the impacts were in Ireland and did not produce craters, but I have hears of some possible smaller 5 to 30 meter craters around in the area.
A Google search for - baillie 530 meteors - finds some discussion of meteors and their effects on tree growth. It seems there was such an event. Perhaps there is a connection to the crater(s) at Knaptoft.
Knaptoft is a deserted medieval village. You can see where the 'roads' were if you look at aerial photographs of the area. This is part of that village.
As for the WWII decoys - yes, they did exist. There was one very near to Arnesby - a couple of trenches that were filled with fuel and lit - to look like a landing strip apparently. This isn't a meteor strike. It's part of the village.
Good idea, but it's on someone's land. It's part of the big farm at Knaptoft so someone could ask them if it would be all right to go over it with a metal detector.
dude, thats cool

That's very interesting. Do you remember where you heard of it?

Looking further, I found some discussion ot the possibility in connection with work done by someone called Baillie.
Napier and Clube first suggested something of the kind in the 1970's.
Perhaps there was a large event then, and researchers might uncover more evidence.

But it's bowl-shaped. What was there in a medieval village that would have decayed in that way.?

I think the village was deserted but what's shown here is clearly some sort of crater. The possible origins of it are discussed in the information.

do some metal detecting there and see if you find loads of shrapnel?
