  • pretty cool. wished id knew that move when i was still training. never was taught it even after 2 yrs. so much to learn in bjj. eating an elephant as they say

  • i got got in that one this week and fucken tore the shit outta my groin any suggestions on how too counter it or escape it ?..

  • frickin shweet.

  • Why don't you go for rear mount from the sweep instead of side control?

  • @T3hCobb this is just an example... what you just really need to know is the sweep and once you are done with the sweep, you can do whatever.

  • SICK!

  • Brilliant. Testament to the system and instructor that people are still learning from a video that's almost 2 years old! Keep up the great work.

  • Brilliant!!

  • One of my top two half guard sweeps the first is old school but i land the EC submission frequently thanks sub101

  • I do this on everyone in my ju jitsu class...Lockdown is the shit

  • gonna test this out on my gf tonight

  • Should I strengthen my core muscles if you do submit? Or I should strengthen my arms & shoulders?

  • @K7Z947 you should strengthen everything, not just a certain group of muscles as any kind of wrestling involves a lot of muscles to be used

  • great vid, thank you guys!

  • Hey does anyone know where to get the 10th Planet Gi pants or is it just a patch?

  • When I did this to my partner, he said it was the lockdown that hurt not the groin stretch :(

  • One thing i love about this submission is when i tried it even though i wasnt able to get the leg for the actual submission i was able to keep his other leg tied up with mine from lock down and switch around to an ankle lock. To me this is one of the greatest tools from half guard because if you can keep calm and focus you can use it to go to the electric chair sweep or switch to another sub.

  • what if I knee u on ur chin..? would you keep holding on?

  • what if the person can split his legs? like a ballerina

  • @iceasn Punch them in the dick

  • that is the rawest submission ive ever seen

  • @hellian1975 this submission is a nasty one. Applied slowly it torques the hell out of the hip. Applied fast and with bad intentions, you can rip the leg clean off.

  • How do you guys keep coming up w/ all these crazy sick moves???

  • after the sweep when you first hook doesnt the defender have their leg as a really good post to fling you off?

  • Am I missing something? When going for the sweep, instead of coming up to your knees and going to side control, couldn't you just slide his leg over your head and come out the backdoor to take his back?

  • @ajb2k9 he can just roll out into full guard if he is fast enough or well versed in bjj

  • I just got DQ'ed in the South Bay Open for using this :(

  • @dhubler id imagine your below a purple belt and in bjj leg locks are illegal untill you pass that belt

  • this is like a mutated banana split! SICKKK

  • well hu knows watll happen ina scrap.. bt if u could pull it off then hell yae it wuld wurk...

u thinkin it wuldnt wurk means ud prob be the 1 wit a broken limb or choked the fuk out

  • Are submissions that attack the groin illegal in the UFC?

  • @TylerTheCreator Yes, anything that hurts the groin really. Also is illegal to kick the head of an oponent that is on the ground. Take the Hair and pick te eyes Also is illegal in UFC.

  • is there a school in utah?

  • I have tapped out to this a couple times.

  • I would like to see this sweep demonstrated with a transition to back control.

Although i'm not 100% covinced by the submission, I particularly like the sweep, and your use of the gable grip to transition to side control.

  • I know the sub is meant to put pressure on the groin and pevic area but you did say that you are applying pressure to the side of the knee, isnt that illegal in some bjj tournaments ?

  • @sigmet25 Correct. You have to be careful with this one. You do not want it to turn into a leg lock or knee bar.

  • @qyet121csx it works cuz I actually used this in class today...I didn't go for the electric chair but I used the sweep and instead threw his leg over and took his back and my teacher was impressed and asked where I learned it from and I told him Submissions 101 youtube channel..lol.. thanks a lot guys!

  • I just take back if i can not tap them

  • you do know instead of flipping him over and doing the cradle to side control, you can pass the trapped leg over your head and take back control

  • Couldn't u just take the back from there?

  • This is the craziest submission I have ever seen.

  • BRUTAL

  • Sweet!

  • Yes it does work

  • What if I don't participate in MMA?

  • is it an option to take his back as opposed to following through with the sweep? thanks for all the great vids!

  • i like how at the beginning during the demonstration u didnt even whip up to ur side and went straight for the elextric chair.. smoooth

  • Could anyone tell me what song is used in the introduction?

  • @Laminated9 Overseer-Slayed

  • @qyet121csx Why?

  • @Submissions101 Because he knows nothing about submissions.

  • @Submissions101 I dunno why he thinks so, but I will test this out on friday, if it works, he eats crow

  • @Submissions101 It does work, I have a link to send you but Youtube will not allow links to be posted in these fields. Search "Luis Ocon vs 210lb guy" in the search box. He did it last weekend in a tourny.

  • @Submissions101 On the contrary, it can work bro.

  • @Submissions101 It's an "out the bottom escape" - of course it could work. Thanks for posting this.

  • @Submissions101 when i tried this, my partner just army-crawled forward. is there a way to get around that?

  • @Submissions101

@ 2:57, couldnt you just shuck the leg over and scramble for back control? Might be even better then side control...

  • @qyet121csx then how come it worked for me while rolling the other day?

  • @qyet121csx actually it works all the time... its super effective especially if they don't know its coming

  • @qyet121csx tried it just the other day, worked fine.

  • @qyet121csx They have a video of them doing it in competition......

  • @qyet121csx ari bolden used the chair in a competition himself, do ur research poser.

  • @qyet121csx yes it would i have done it b4

  • @qyet121csx

maybe not for you but it did for me. the sweep worked not the sub attempt

  • @qyet121csx it's very high percentage because no one sees it coming.

  • @qyet121csx I love how retards say this will never work when it's part of the half guard sweep chain moves.

  • @qyet121csx *points to a recent UFC title win* Nope, never works. *rolls eyes*

  • @qyet121csx It does work i've seen it done several times. one reason it works well is because most people never see it coming.

  • @qyet121csx That's funny you say that, I watched this video and then got a tap with it at practice tonight. Oh yeah, and why don't you look at all the videos where people got it at grappling tournaments? Seriously, if you don't have anything of use to contribute why don't you spare the world your stupidity.

  • @adeihim LOL he must fail at grappling. And you must be another one of them wanna be grapplers who watches youtube to 'learn' mma. Internet tough guy. your cool! ROFL. Why do you think you never see this in a mma match...cuz it could never work! LOLOLOL

  • @qyet121csx then dont do it, and its awsome to transition to a sweep from it if they are too flexible. Just like stated in the video.

  • @qyet121csx It's has already been done at a tournament.

  • @qyet121csx This works almost every time for me. I go to this one A LOT.

  • @qyet121csx why wont this work?

  • @qyet121csx It would work great in a tradional grappling match.

Very risky if striking is envolved.

  • @qyet121csx whatch this and be impresed

    /watch?v=3ezlkcrs2oo&feature=related

  • @qyet121csx I catch people constantly with it. It works. Give it a try before hating on it.

  • @qyet121csx yes why?

  • @qyet121csx Stick with high percentage moves as a rule #1, but throw surprise moves every once in a while. Second-best-options are surprising becuz not expected.

  • Im New To Brazilian Jiu Jitsu , ive learned 3 triangle chokes and the scissor sweep, any videos for beginners that would help me get a little better ? the electric chair looks like you'd have to be doing it for a while.

  • @jayman45484 im pretty sure it still would. u might just have to apply a little bit of extra force.their legs will have to stop splitting at sometime.

  • if someone can do full splits would this still work?

  • @jayman45484 no, he said that in the vid and showed what to do in that case.

  • @jayman45484 it can be hard on some people...you can also put pressure on the knee....if not, get rid of the leg over your shoulder pronto while KEEPing grapevine on the other leg (if his grapevined leg gets out while your holding his other you get triangled) and use it as a sweep/roll for the twister...no amount of splits can save you from THE TWISTERRRRRRRRRR....

  • @MrPhrogphurter ahh sick! cheers man!!

  • Eddie Bravo is a genius

  • for judo.. instead of letting go of his leg at the end i think you can just hold it and go for a pin

  • iev nailed this one 3 or 4 times i love thxs

  • this would never work...

  • @qyet121csx hm...

  • Thanks guys. This is something that greatly helps my half guard situations.

  • Hmm... Ari looks pretty stout in this video haha.

  • Ground is such a beautiful place! ^.^

  • any advice on how to make my own submissions? ive made a few but im not too confidite in them.....

  • Are the banana split and electric chair allowed in IBJJF rules (tournament?)

Got a tournament coming and I'd like to consider these.

Any info would help and I'd be grateful.

  • what if the guy is super flexible?

  • Ari, is this legal in Gi competition

  • @zimmermandk yes but im told in most cases you have to be a certain rank to use it in competition

  • Question for the Uploader:

Near the end of the video, "the sweep" instead of getting up to your knee and following as your instructed, can you not take the back instead? Duck under the knee and take the back? just a thought. Obviously this is just a question from a curious observer. I don't train in the sport.

    Thank you very much.

  • @essijoon It does seem like the thing to do.

I wonder if many BJJ types wouldn't then take their left leg, stick it low on the top guy's right flank, and use that to take the half guard again.

Of course you could control the left leg for the whole pass, but the guy in the chair might walk his butt back into you (since you'd be a little off balance for more than a second) and then be on top in your half guard?

  • and why is this called electrick chair????

  • Nice instruction, sweet move, thumbs up.

  • 8 people want to get electric chaired

  • Love your channel im taking jujitsu and this is all great for reviewing what I know and looking up counters to what I dont.

  • This is a great move.

  • I like the moves with punishment names :)

    Electric Chair

    Guillotine

Are there any other "death penalty" submissions?

  • @47smithstreetseries The Rack, Crucifix, death star

  • @Submissions101 Perfect.

  • @Submissions101 death star isnt death penalty submission, its pure destruction :)

  • @Submissions101 dude thanks for these videos they have helped a lot, i wanna come overseas for training, is this joint in canada or the usa?

  • @Submissions101 what about "the proper burial, and the honnymoonerspecial, and frankeinstiner,

  • @47smithstreetseries You are talking about the gas chamber submission

  • @BushidoCode72 Ooooh, would you mind explaining it quickly?

  • @BushidoCode72

Yeah but that's only if the guy in the black pants can squeeze one out before the guy in the white pants can submit him in the electric chair

  • @47smithstreetseries I keep waiting to see "The Noose" in a full gi submission match lol.

  • @nathanwilefrazier Even seen the non-choke version of the guillotine?

  • @47smithstreetseries Indian Death Lock

  • @47smithstreetseries Does gas attack count?

  • @MrMZaccone Yeah if it isn't fart related.

  • @47smithstreetseries I think that's actually the name of a move in the tenth planet system although what it is currently escapes me.

  • @47smithstreetseries theres the lethal injection, i love that move

  • @daivondays Can you explain it?

  • @47smithstreetseries my favourite is the "Death star" :D:D

  • Hello i am new to the BJJ world and i am wondering if there is any way to learn fast and i a 12 years old and my parents will not let me take classes. Please respond to this video. I know alot of moves (airbar, Kimora, flying airbar etc) and also i weigh medium... Well thanks for any tips or ideas.

  • @NationShadow calling an arm bar an air bar shows that you don't actually know a lot, and that's fine, everyone has to start out just don't go screwing around thinking you know bjj and hurting yourself.

Try talking to your parents some more if its injuries there are actually less injuries in sports like jiu jitsu and wrestling then there are in sports like football and soccer. because you are constantly monitored by either a coach or ref and you aren't running at your opponent at full speed.

  • @TBAL285 Yo sorry i mistyped because i type fast i mean a armbar and one of my friend and in BJJ so he teaches me.

  • @NationShadow well I wouldn't of said it if you only did it once but ya did it twice and a-i-r isn't even close to arm typing wise. btw I don't really like beginners teaching beginners but I mean if that's what your gonna do whatever. Just keep everything slow and controlled and no leg locks!(for now) lose control of one of those you can seriously get injured. While yes you could do the same with arm locks it wouldn't be as serious as a torn up knee.

  • Some people might think that they would not tap to this because they are flexible. ill tell you, after the lactic build up of grappling five minutes, the right grip, and the unforgiving position of your upperbody, these are quite excrusiating too work out of, Im guessing you would try to hand walk to try to aleviate the pressure of this hold or a judo roll. I would hate to be put in this one you 10th planet dudes are meanies

  • God this move is sick! Watching this stuff is awesome but I just wish I could practice it. Does anyone know of a good BJJ gym in Austin, TX? I heard there is a Gracie gym somewhere around here but I'm not sure.

  • @ashylarry5500 if you look at 10th planet website, i believe there is a 10th planet branch somehwere near you live...gracie jits, is different, there gi jiujitsu. i prefer 10th planet.

  • @andrewscottanctil Thanks bro. Yea I would prefer to do more no-gi jiu-jitsu. Prepares you real fights instead of BJJ tournaments.

  • insane and very creative submission, though it doesn´t work on guys who can do the splits, of course, you wouldn't get into a fight with many of them!!!Good job!

  • is that still consitered half guard??? its normally on the other leg..

  • @shizamza If you have 2 of your legs around either 1 of your opponent's, I'm pretty sure it's always considered half guard :).

  • @NelsonLeeds thank you :)

  • would it be dangerous to try to go for a kneebar if they dont tap out from the elec chair?

  • nice technique. i will be experimenting with it tonight. i am going to make a woman out of someone tonight!

  • i love how on every submissions 101 video that it's in depth and that the people commenting are asking legitimate questions

  • wow!! thias is fucking sick

  • hey ari couple of questions do i need a lock down ?can i do this from say a deep half guard without a lock down?

  • @lagook Yes my friend. You can do it from a deep half or every x guard position.

  • eddie bravo fo live

  • I liked this move, I am going to practice it.

  • verry good vedeos guys. Keep it up.

  • Muito boa essa tecnica de submission !!!

    pratiquei ela e e muito boua !!

  • this is a wrestling move calleda banana spilt its not the same but the end result

  • @Nightmare1480 bananan split is also a submission, we also use the wrestlers guillotine (known as the twister by us). This is a variation so therefore the diffrent name.

  • as for the sweep why would you go to side control. couldnt you just continue out the back door and take the back?

  • @crabbit87 Yes, it is called the Stoner Control Sweep

  • @Submissions101 is this submission similar to a banna split?

  • Question: I learned a different electric chair sweep. It seems like he could just post up on that other arm pretty easily

  • u guyz are great

  • Fantastic video's, as always! I've been taking notes, and will take them to training in my dojo!

  • interesting submission/sweep. I have a few questions for you:

    1. is the height of your opponent a factor in this submission? i am quite short and am curious as to if this would work on a person with long legs.

    2. what does the submission do to the body? is it like an omoplata where you can injure your partner/opponent easily?

    3. what are the rules regarding this submission in comp?

  • when you do the sweep, couldnt you take his back instead of rolling him back over and taking the chance of him getting a triangle at 3:32, just curious, love the vids tho, 5* on every one i've seen so far

  • @TheBenjaminBrewhair If you go to take his back, he'll just whizzer you, but then you have a few sweeps to pull from that

  • isnt this the same as a bannana split or a crotch ripper?

  • This is sick. My instructor showed me up last night and used this technique. the shit hurts

  • wanna learn jiu jitsu from the best then learn from marcelo garcia. edgar cano(eddie bravo's real name) and he even says that hes one of the best grapplers EVER!!!!!!!!!!! u cant deny true talent playboy!!

  • @strabello1 I have to agree, I did a seminar at FKA with MG and he is a beast at No Gi and an incredible teacher

  • all this is is a variation of the banana split...nothing special. for those who didnt know

  • @strabello1 actually, this can be used to revert to stoner control and the stoner control variation, the crotch ripper and the ken shamrock toe hold. Ive also used my own calf crank variations out of this position. It is a very effective sweep or set up.

  • rasga saco

  • Also, this was not made only to be a submission, from here you could revert to stoner control, the stoner control variation, the ken shamrock toe hold or a calf crank or just go for the old crotch ripper!

  • @seigemma4 The 10th planet system is much more than the rubber guard my friend, If someone stacks you, the 10th planet system specifically tells you to revert to the spider web, X guard, double X guard or butterfly guard, hell you could avoid those positions and simply drop kick sweep the guy. And I dont need to remind you that eddie bravo THE INVENTOR of the rubber guard is the student of jean jaques machado, who is the lebron james of butterfly sweeps.

  • @genjibob Eddie Bravo did not invent the rubber guard.

  • @behrouzii please elaborate if you are certain

  • @genjibob I can't remember for certain, but if you look in I believe UFC 2, one of the fighters uses Rubber Guard, much before Eddie Bravo's claim to fame.

  • @behrouzii Ill help you out here, It was at UFC 9 exactly 1:58 seconds into the fight from a fighter by the name of anderson. He did not execute mission control correctly and held on to it for maybe 3 seconds before the other guy postured out.Stop hating on eddie, hes trying to evolve jiu jitsu meanwhile you just sound like a gracie family fan boy

  • @behrouzii dont get mixed up with attempting the omoplata for the rubber guard. because at that point it looks like it...but it is not. watch UFC 9. which is the fight you are talking about. look at his technique. then watch the rubber guard technique...they are worlds apart.

  • @behrouzii Nino Schembri invented the rubber guard.

  • the last two george sotiropolous fights are a prime example
