With the electrolysis some chlorine gas is produced. What if you would lead this chlorine gas through a sodium hydroxide solution? Would it be enough to produce some sodium hypochlorite. Which after saturation and adding potassium chloride would it yield some additional potassium chlorate?

@shawnio well we all want to blow up people like you so in order for a higher chance for that we need to show everyone how to make unstable chlorates, mix them with charcoal and sulfuric acid. and then they can put it beside any window they please that is on your home or vehicle :)

@greatkid1 Thanks, I can't really give you exact numbers cause I don't really know. But within a few days It makes a fair amount of chlorate. Deffenity within a week I should have over a kilo or even more.

Hey are 1/4 carbon rods to small for a chlorate cell of this size?

Would you have to double/ triple the rods used to be efficient?

I have access to gouging rods, and will be treating them with linseed oil.

@pyrojig Hey mate, well I haven't really played with graphite rods but to all the people I have talked to who have used graphite rods, they hate them. Your kclo3 will be tainted in a black sludge that you need to filter out and such. Now it is possible to buy MMO anodes in Australia and it is very worth while in investing in some. They should last you forever (don't have to replace them unlike with graphite ones) and your kclo3 crystals will look great. Not sure if that helps.

I am molding after your cell design, as it is a dang good one, and simple. If you dont mind me asking, how much did you spend on your anode , and cathode ? I have a pc power source I just converted from a 230W Force. This should have enough kick to run the cell...being 5gal. Should I expect a return of around 500g a day with this ?

@pyrojig I bought my anode and cathode from a mate, for only $50, but diversehobbies stocks the exact same ones. These are great things.

I wouldn't be able to tell you what type of return you should expect, sorry.

@youareanearthquake Cheers mate, Cost like $50 for the cathod and anode (from diverse hobbies) The power supply was pretty much for free. I made the connections and found the bucket... So a little over $50 a guess. Pretty decent.

Hows this cell doing? I switched my anode from MnO2/ Co2O3 to nickel nitrate and vanadium pentaoxide doped cobalt oxide, which seems much more durable. No flaking or anything, it may be able to make perchlorate, probably not. I will probably have to make a lead dioxide anode for perchlorate. Good vid though, and how may grams/ Kg has this thing made so far?

@TheMnO2 Hey mate, it's was going good, but I have it turned off for now because I'm back at school. The first time I cleaned it out I got about 50g of recrystallized product. The next day I got 190g of recrystallized product and the day after that I got 490g of raw product, so It was going fairly well.

So far, with the chlorate I have made some coloured smoke (will upload them soon) and the first thing I did was mix it with some sugar to test it. Is that what you mean, cause I will get a video and upload it for you if you like.

Yes a rocket with the kclo3. I did some aluminum foil rockets a long time ago with chlorate that I bought. In Sweden the name was klorex55 but I don't think they have it any more. That is why it is so cool that you can produce it from simple salt. I mean the gov can't take salt away :D.

So a rocket with the stuff you make would inspire lots of people I think.

I'm also interested to see a kclo3 vs kclo4 or maybe Naclox vs kclox.

@nattsurfaren Hmm, well I don't know of any formulas for kclo3 rocket propelent. I use black powder (kno3 based). Yes, well I hope my goverment can't take away my salt :/ lol

I know that kclo3 makes better colours then kclo4 can and now that I can make kclo3, it is much cheaper as well and a lot easyer to get then kclo4.
