@Venacity The audio and video tracks aren't permanently joined together until you export the video. There are separate audio and video tracks. And you can move everything around. Once you slide the audio into place it stays, but you can always shift the audio and video around.
@overlander Does that camera have a firewire? You may be able to record to your cam, then import the audio via firewire. What kind of computer are you using? You can get an device like the solo or a sound capture device that takes XLR. Personally, I use a Duet and a high end analog mic. Or you can get a USB mic, like a Blue Snowball. ~Amani
Why did they make that crappy half a waveform view? HATE IT! i would've been happy with the Garageband or Logic and every other app's L & R view. LAME!!
@webvideochefs I think in future updates things will fall into place. Apple has too much on the line if they plan to keep FCP as a real pro app. I just would have thought that they'd have made a better audio editor considering they dropped Soundtrack?
@sbrave Which is why I still have FCP 7 and Soundtrack Pro. I think a lot of FCP users feel betrayed, and who knows if they can be wooed back. I know how to edit, but don't do high end projects so it doesn't matter so much for me. Plus I often use Adobe Premier already.
@webvideochefs Exactly. Apple wioll get it together eventually, and it's not like everyone has to drop FCP7 and move over right now anyway...especially when there's so many little improvements to be made. By next year, this thing should be pretty sick!
@sbrave Either that or the pros will be back on Avid or using Premier. I don't know if folks are that patient. My professional editing friends aren't feeling Apple right now.
@webvideochefs True, time for AVID to grab these folks back away from FCPX. When I worked as a tech in LA for audio & video editing systems, it was all AVID for the big boys stuff (feature film and most TV, and FCP for some music vids and docs.
@sbrave Yeah my first news station in DC was on Avid back in '97. That's how I learned. Then my next station was tape to tape BETA-SP. Somewhere along the line FCP kind of took over, but those days seem numbered, if not over. ~Amani
The count down feature in Final Cut Studio/express gave you a 3 beep 1 pause then started recording, is there anyway to do this with the new final cut x or is it one of the many nice things apple took away from it?
@FrostyEight Sorry for the late response. I haven't seen any 3 beep countdown. You really don't need one because you can trim and edit the audio anyway after it is recorded.
how to do the same for video? I want to capture video on top of another video in real time.

@sbrave I don't know. Everyone seems to have a complaint. We'll see what Apple does in future updates.

Omg! I thought, at first, you were using the "Alex" voice from the iMac. Your voice sounds just like him :)

@SCOTTW25 Nope. Using my own voice :) I'll take that as a compliment.
