lolz I had a 1987 PONY CX, damn thing was so tough that the only thing I replaced in 5 years besides tires and Belts was a distributor cap. I can remember being not too excited when I was offered the car but it was kept in a garage It was almost mint when I got it 1997. Anyway I liked the car right away when I tested it and drove it until I was rear ended by a Jeep Cherokee doing 80, I walked away!, its not too fancy of a car but I miss it. Hyundai needs to make a rear drive hatch again.
I recently read on sympatico dot ca: "20 econoboxes we'd like to forget." This included the 1980's versions of the Suzuki Swift and Hyundai Pony. Now I lived in Canada throughout the 80's and can definitely say that both these were top selling cars here. Where the heck are these statements coming from.
They are very good cars, I sold mine a year ago, had it since 85. Great engine, just changed the oil with synthetic and drive belt once. Its the last of the old style carbarator engines. They dont have computers inside controlling the engine like the new cars do. I once had 9 of my friends including me on a quick run to downtown from school. 2 in the front, 4 in the backseat, and 3 lying down in the hatchback trunck area.
Look on kijiji, there's one in brampton with 9,600 KM apparently. Im sure the engine is shot, but the body is mint. He's asking $1,500 for it, I just sold a red '86 with 81,000K for a grand, so see if you can jew him down ;)
You could also try 1984-1986 Stellar, they handle superior. The 1987 has macphersons up front, and consequently doesn't handle as well.
Hah, you want to sell me one? The parts on it are: 1987 Escort GT bumper (front) 1992 Chevy cavalier Z24 sideskirts, The back bumper is now a 1986 Escort EXP.
Great styling and accesories. It´s a pity that here in Colombia only were imported a few ones... I saw only 2 units this year and there's no way to adquire parts...
I've a 1982 Pony 1.4liter in great conditions, but there are not parts either for it... Where could I get'em?

They are pretty good if you get one with a good body. Engines are interchangeable with a handfull of mitsubishi motors (DSM included)

did I not see this car on kijiji not too long ago?
finzgar420 2 years ago
Yes. It is no longer around... well it might exist as a cube now, but we stripped it pretty thoroughly before sending the shell away.
Some of it's parts have been transplanted into the Last Pony - ;)

crappy! I am looking for something rear wheel and small to make a rotary project.
I think a Pony would be awesome!

Best of luck either way.

Lovely. I used to have one of those dependable cocksuckers. How hard was it to strap those bumpers, skirts, and engine block in?
