I had this album and it was stolen or something. I listened to it a lot. I have forgotten the other songs I liked though. There is another real good song on this album.
Ironically Novo Combo had bigger success in the UK than they did in (their native) USA. Only AOR stations played this band's music. Kind of reminds me of the Police or Greg Kihn Band (the Beserkeley yrs.)
If anyone knows how to find this album, or song on CD format, please fill me in. "Searched high and low - round, round I go". Thank's a ton in advance.
this is my favorite band and i am only 12 but i have all their songs from they're first record i even have a signed record signed by jack griffith the lead guitar player for novo combo and repo bop.
is "Sorry for the Delay' anywhere out there on the web? Novo Combo opened their show in Kansas City in 82 with this song, about a half hour after the show was to begin. The whole show blew me away, and I will never forget it!
@1go4it I know you made this comment a year ago, but I posted Sorry (For the Delay) about a week ago. If there are any others you want to hear, lemme know! (I own both records, so I can post any of the songs)
quit talking stupid, the band did not influence the Police by any means. Novo Combo only formed in 1980, i know, i live in pittsburgh where Pete Hewlett is from, and he was a huge Police fan. please don't act like you know things and blurt out idiotic facts to confuse people.
Nice to see this vid. saw them in nyc. Made. Steve laugh when I held my hand straight up with hand bent like a periscope moving the hand like scoping out, dancing like a maniac. Should have had more air play like so many other greats.
Love, love, love Novo Combo. I first heard them back in the day when they toured with Cheap Trick. Every Friday at about midnight, the radio station in the Quad Cities would play "Tattoo" and it always meant another refill at the keg even if you had a curfew.
"Up Periscope" and "City Bound" got a fair amount of South-Texas airplay back in the early 80s, thanks to C101. For 23 years though, I didn't know who the artist was. One girl said the group was called Wavelength. Someone else insisted the Insect Surfers. Anyway, in 2008 I'm in this decrepit antique store, flipping through old LP records, and I happen to look at the track list for this group called Novo Combo. Track One: "Up Periscope." BINGO!
I hope you bought it .) I couldn't find a copy when it was new. It like made a splash in the New york area- WBAB and It think WLIR and disappeared. A couple other good tracks on that baby too. GREAT song.
I read your comments about not finding this album. I dealt with one of those out-of-print album businesses I found via GOOGLE and found it. As a matter of fact, the company with which I dealt had a deal where you could buy the vinyl album, and they would professionally put it on a CD for you. Their recording of it on CD was a lot better than I could do. Good luck in your search, if you're still looking for the album.
they do sound like the police..... still a great album its great that these unknown bands are getting played on youtube i listen to this album alot....spent the time to transfer my vinyl to cd so i can play it in the car
Never understood why this never came out on CD...This album is excellent.I even got a vinyl copy from Japan which sounds awesome.I had a company tranfer it on to CD for me but the vinyl stills sounds better<<
our fm station in stl. KSHE turned me on to them way back in the early 80's..first time i heard them i had to get the album.. was into rock playing in a rock band but this just grabbed my ears, still sounds good to me. thankx for the post
I didn't like them at first cause i thought it was a Police rip off. But then I really got into this and one or two other jams they played in NYC and Long Island back in the day. So I go to try and find the album- IMPOSSIBLE to find and never did.But here it is on youtube free of charge :D Thanks for posting.
Years ago -- in the late 70's or early 80's I heard them on King Biscuit Flour Hour. I had it recorded and I became addicted to their sound. Their live sound was fantastic. Never heard of them again. I wore out the tape. They should have been a huge success. I wrote to King Biscuit asking them to release that tape on CD but they said no.
I remember seeing this great group at The Park West in Chicago years ago. They were awesome. I still have the albums, How about the CDs? Thanks for posting.
I thought I was the only person who remembered this song. It was popular on KROQ (Los Angeles) in 1981-82. Thank you ynohuh for posting this! I've spent years trying to find it!
i have been looking for this song forever..i was starting to think that i was the only person that ever heard of this song..I remember requesting this song on the radio and stayed up all night just to hear it.. Thank you for uploading this gem
thewormster, so have I-for over a year ( I saw them live and made it to the dressing room!) This is an advantage I believe of Google's presence-they notice we're looking-and they find it?!
I wonder if any of the members of this group are submarine sailors! Being one myself, it sounds they know about the life aboard submarines! (By the way, no use of "were" in above sentence on purpose . . . once a bubblehead, always a bubblehead!)
Sounds like The Police, I like it.
