@360floflyer I'm not really sure now. At the time I started it wasn't so much the ASVAB in total. There was a formula used on scores from two or three PARTS of the ASVAB. In general, the guidelines stated that "aircrew candidates shall be of higher than average intelligence".
That's typical for the military - make a qualification standard but don't QUANTIFY it. That was the scale is adjustable depending on current need.
Yeah that was a pretty common practice for us. Train like you fight, fight like you train. Never go into combat with the idea that you're limited to 15 second bursts - your enemy isn't fighting that way so why should you?
It depends on the service and platform. Some may still be using the M60, but the majority of those have been replaced with the M240D. Similar cyclic rate but a much more robust and reliable weapon. Also, the GAU 17 minigun (or variants of it) are used on most helicopter platforms as a crew-served weapon. Recent developments have facilitated substantial improvements to its reliability rating.
Sten, I still have a love hate with the GAU. I love what they can do to a bad guy but I HATED fixing the damn things you aircrew always broke. And that felling goes back to HAL-5 and GAU-2A/B
Jonesy, with the Dillon delinkers we began using at the start of the war, you would have an improved attitude towards the GAU. It became much more reliable - especially when serviced by a competent ordy! I would have given my left eyetooth to have you out there with us.
sten, get ahold of me via pm. IYAOYAS!
