Enough of this political things, the money and everything else.. don't you people realize the yeah it may look like this but at the end of the day these people are happy just to live i mean im am very proud of them all... i mean think about it they have barely any money but yet they are happy and another is they bare have any money yes, true but look at the jollie bee and the shopping malls and other things its packed with people isn't it? Think about the big picture people "HAPPINESS"
The prob wit Phil is the govt dun know how to make money! How to atrract true investor to phil. No money how to run the country!! One more thing,,phil govt EGO. think Phil is better than neighbourhood country. always look at west. Why dun ask Malaysia for example investing in Palm Tree Plantation. Last 20 years Malaysia help Indonesia growing Palm tree n now Indonesia is a world highest palm oil (cooking oil)producer! Its ll make Phil green n its create a lots of jobs to pilipinos.
rubin808 is also right in saying that the marcoses (or their cronies) took billions of dollars from the philiipines for themselves and this is one reason why we still suffer this long-tern effect of poverty. but, assuming that this present government under pres. noynoy aquino is 100% corrupt-free, i have this personal assessment that this nation's economy will never achieve its goal as long as population is not controlled.
majority of filipinos are talented, skilled and hard-working people. what makes the philippines poor is their religious belief (majority are catholics) that promotes population growth (from the bible: "go forth and multiply..."). the church is against family planning. birth control, etc. the catholic bishops conference of the philippines is against many government programs creating job opportunities. although i consider myself a catholic, i already left the catholic church years ago.
@rogerrosales1 The poverty in the Philippines is not just from religion but from government corruption. The Marcoses took billions of dollars and pesos from the Philippines for themselves.
@rubin808 you are wrong pamily is what keeps us together, the church is our only refuge during the rainy season and typhoons. there are scores of nuns and laymen who come to our slums and help us. don't leave the church, it is the soul of filipinos, it is through Jesus suffering that we are united. the church is not to blame for poverty it is greedy people and filipinos themselves who don't care or give us opportunity to get higher up.
the roman catholic church in the philippines is for population explosion, she tolerates poverty and sees untidy children from slum areas as "blessings from God." she is against the plan of creating another "las vegas" in the country. thus. depriving filipinos of employment opportunities. it is a shame for us. filipinos because we brag of ourselves as "the only christian nation in asia" and yet were branded as one of the most corrupt nation in the world! WOE TO THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH!
For how long this kind of situation the filipinos can stand to lived. Goverment should open eyes to solve of this proverty. Foregien only can help a bit but the rest is from the goverment itself.Over population..uncontrol childbirth...unemployed...etc. Finaly..the rich become a richer and the poor ...you know what i mean !!!!. May mighty God bless of this people from proverty .
@switchfootrelientk its depressing when you are just an observer my friend. the moment you feel love for there kids and families you feel god in your heart. you feel the universe inside you.
Not really into that new age crap. You can't feel the universe inside of you. The God I know has called us out of a life of poverty. He's called us to prosper. Maybe not to a life of monetary wealth, but at least to a point where we have enough to cover our needs and bless others. That's why it's depressing.
And p.s. I was more than an observer, I was raised in Manila in what westerners would consider sub-par living conditions.
If you are speaking of the God of the Bible, I'm afraid you might be a bit off. I'm convinced the God of the Bible doesn't call us to prosperity (which leads us only to have faith in ourselves) but rather to have faith in Him to see our needs met. Why then would Jesus say "blessed are the poor", and that the poor would always be with us? Why then would He live as a homeless man if God's call is for prosperity? Sure God may bless others w/ some form of prosperity, but it's by no means a calling.
Mother theresa also lived in slums all the while enjoying the suffering of dying children and truly believed that the more they suffer, the closer to god they get....NOW that is sick ...she was sick..see her on tou tube and learn the truth about these oddities and their troubbled world !!
Perhaps she was a sick woman with extreme beliefs regarding the poor and suffering. I cannot see her heart or her intentions. I did not know her personally, and you must agree that most media today is always slanted to the producer's presuppositions. Absolute objectivity is very rare today. But even if she did cause more suffering than alleviate, there still are those who do seek to alleviate it. The wrong doings of one public figure cannot account for all who seek good in the name of Christ.
I actually did watch his video on Mother Teresa before I made my post, and I still think you are honing in too close to the failings of people than seeing the good that others are doing. Just because one person or even several are corrupt in their dealings does not mean all are. Everyone will fail at something, NO ONE is perfect.
To emphasize someone's faults alone is to give an incomplete and dare I say inaccurate view of someone. I am not talking about Mother Teresa alone, but everyone. Unless you can account for every action and motive for one individual, I do not believe you have the right to pass judgment on that person in terms of WHO they are. And since not one man on this earth is capable of being omniscient I am not easily persuaded by the criticisms of those who would only see people for their failings.
PLEASE do not attempt to BRAINWASH these already bankrupt people with religious hogwash...they are going through enough hardship as it is.....shameful existing conditions !!Wish I could help ....
I wish I could help too. But telling the truth is not brainwashing. All of the information from this video i posted came from a semi-autobiography of the work of a man by the name of Viv Grigg. He felt God calling him to move from the comfort of his home in New Zealand to the slums of Manila, Philippines to reach the poorest of the poor with the good news of Christ. If you would like to know more about his work and credibility you should check out this book.
Also, the "existing conditions" and hardship did not generate all on it's own. Grigg discusses in his book of how the resources are there to make a difference; however, they are controlled by an elitist few who keep them for themselves instead of using it to help their own people. And until there is a change of heart, which I'm convinced only the work of Christ can do, this poverty and "hardship" will sadly continue.
Religion is just another form of scam, government, mind control or whatever word you may think. But THEOLOGY is something that religion has used to get to power. Ask Christians what Christ means and they have no clue. They dont realize that all dates and events in Christianity are pagan and related to Astronomy. But hey, who does their homework. They are told to believe and thats what they do. They have no clue, but they believe.
I am a Christian, a follower of Jesus Christ. Christianity is not my religion, it is my life. I know that some of the dates and events are held on traditionally pagan holidays. But it is not the day things are held on that matters, it is what is being celebrated. I was not told what i should believe, i sought it out for myself. I have done my homework and continue to do so to refine my faith and grow closer to God in my relationship with Him.
PS-i am not the only follower of Christ who has a personal, living relationship with Christ. I agree some people may simply follow into the tradition of religion, but the true Christian isn't about tradition, but about having a relationship with God through Jesus because Jesus is the only way I can even gain access to God. I hope this helps your understanding of what it means to truly "be a Christian." I'd love to talk more with you about this if you'd like. There's just not much room here.
this is not my country. I just did a book report on ministry in the slums of Manila, Philippines. These are just some of the photographs I found of squatters and slum dwellers there.
Generally, the poverty you see comes from tyrannical government and money hungry, land hoarding individuals who hold the majority of the nation's wealth and land forcing everyone else into the financial and living state they are in. It is sad. If things are to change, the hearts of governing and high ranking officials would need to change. They need to know the love of Jesus for them to see that these people matter and should not be tossed aside due to the selfish greed of a few.
Most of the GREEDY land owners and govt officials are there because of self-serving interests...GREED They have NO conscience and so called GOD that DOES NOT exist should have been ashamed of these circumstances had he been real...I wish I knew a way to send money directly to these children but then they have no addresses...and most of the institutions that portray to help them keep MOST of the donations for themselves...they call it administration costs !!! Bastards
Well first off God does exist (I will concede there is no proof for him, but acceptance or rejection of Him is a matter of faith not proof. There is evidence but that must still be taken by faith). And He has given man free will and responsibility for his actions. The problem is the root of sin which is present in everyone's life: selfishness. We either seek to indulge it or fight it.
I would argue that God is not proud of this sin, He even mentions in Scripture His regret of creating man after man fell in the Garden of Eden. But until Christ comes again and finally defeats Satan who is still at work, it will continue. He has His reasons for what is happening. There is still good happening here even when evil continues, don't forget that.
PS- And if you really are interested in helping these children, I would suggest to be proactive rather than just passively sending money to clear your own conscience. If you are willing to criticize these people who do try to help in some fashion regardless of motives, you ought to be willing to criticize yourself and what you are doing to help the ones in need. Like the old saying goes, "Where there's a will there's a way"...

I've been to the slums of Manila many times. It's a somber and depressing place, though the people always make the best of their living conditions.
