I'm a former Marine. I was DEP'd for a year, had a medical problem that I knew would hinder me and I tried to get out of the DEP. My recruiter came up with a whole bunch of different lies to keep me in, then told me I was a failure when I got medical discharge. Recruiters are morons

If not, what was your practice test score? Have you pulled a Job reservation? Did you require any waivers/reviews? I will be able to explain it well with that info.

When you say "Sign your life away" I cant help but say you are wrong. Three years and 16 weeks is not your whole life if you only do one enlistment. I enlisted and I leave for Ft. Benning in May. I think my recruiters did a shit hot job on all the possibilities that the Army has for me. I went in saying I want Infantry, and wanted to make sure thats what I wanted. The job you wnat or get when enlisting ALL depends on your own ASVAB score, and the recruiter himself.

@destiny022808 i scored a 75 on the asvab im a uav pilot mos title 15 whiskey signed a 8 year contract 6 active 2 inactive all depends on what your looking for realy. i got the mos i wanted but you might want to research what you want to do and find out what you have to score on the asvab to do it, most mos require certain scores in individual sections research it and study those and talk to your recruiter 2 weeks before to reserve the mos for when you go in to sign your contract

Before i enlisted EVERYONE told me that my recruiter would lie to me just to get me to sign, but he was surprisingly honest. I told him that i got an 84 on my ASVAB and that i was interested in UAV's. He told me i would most likely NOT get that job simply becauses there is hardly ever an opening for it. He also never offered me any fake bonuses or anything like that either. the only bonus i got was for $1,400 because i signed up during my Junior year in high school. But i got the job i wanted :)

Well for one, this guy is right on some things, and wrong on others. Not all recruiters are bad. Mine was awesome. He told me the fields that he really needed to fill, and asked me if I was interested, then gave me the other openings and got me the one I wanted most. He didn't BS me about what sort of training I would be doing, and he helped me out whenever I needed it. But there are douchebags out there who will say the Army is all peaches and cream. It isn't. But what did you expect?

If you join the ARMY, expect to be a Soldier. If you join the MARINE Corp, expect to be a jarhead ready to take orders. If you join the NAVY, expect to be on boats in the middle of the ocean for months at a time. If you join the Coast Guard, expect to do some type of law enforcement work. OMG! I know plenty of Asians who failed the ASVAB! Second, it does not matter how high you score, not every MOS is available. Last I checked, the economy is still weak. People are joining for a pay check and to have a job and those that are in are not getting out any time soon. All branches of service have an extremely high retention rate. Do your research on your own, but do not expect a lot of job opportunities in the military because they do not need people to join. Plus, Iraq is over!!!!!

Second, a system called MLPDS will identify what jobs you qualify based on qualifications and availability. Obviously medic was not available.

When you say "Sign your life away" I cant help but say you are wrong. Three years and 16 weeks is not your whole life if you only do one enlistment. I enlisted and I leave for Ft. Benning in May. I think my recruiters did a shit hot job on all the possibilities that the Army has for me. I went in saying I want Infantry, and wanted to make sure thats what I wanted. The job you wnat or get when enlisting ALL depends on your own ASVAB score, and the recruiter himself.

@destiny022808 i scored a 75 on the asvab im a uav pilot mos title 15 whiskey signed a 8 year contract 6 active 2 inactive all depends on what your looking for realy. i got the mos i wanted but you might want to research what you want to do and find out what you have to score on the asvab to do it, most mos require certain scores in individual sections research it and study those and talk to your recruiter 2 weeks before to reserve the mos for when you go in to sign your contract

Before i enlisted EVERYONE told me that my recruiter would lie to me just to get me to sign, but he was surprisingly honest. I told him that i got an 84 on my ASVAB and that i was interested in UAV's. He told me i would most likely NOT get that job simply becauses there is hardly ever an opening for it. He also never offered me any fake bonuses or anything like that either. the only bonus i got was for $1,400 because i signed up during my Junior year in high school. But i got the job i wanted :)

Well for one, this guy is right on some things, and wrong on others. Not all recruiters are bad. Mine was awesome. He told me the fields that he really needed to fill, and asked me if I was interested, then gave me the other openings and got me the one I wanted most. He didn't BS me about what sort of training I would be doing, and he helped me out whenever I needed it. But there are douchebags out there who will say the Army is all peaches and cream. It isn't. But what did you expect?

If you join the ARMY, expect to be a Soldier. If you join the MARINE Corp, expect to be a jarhead ready to take orders. If you join the NAVY, expect to be on boats in the middle of the ocean for months at a time. If you join the Coast Guard, expect to do some type of law enforcement work. And if you join the Air Force, expect to work on or around Airplanes. Hope this helps those interested in joining the Armed Forces. You want a medical job, go to school and apply to work at a hospital.

OMG! I know plenty of Asians who failed the ASVAB! Second, it does not matter how high you score, not every MOS is available. Last I checked, the economy is still weak. People are joining for a pay check and to have a job and those that are in are not getting out any time soon. All branches of service have an extremely high retention rate. Do your research on your own, but do not expect a lot of job opportunities in the military because they do not need people to join. Plus, Iraq is over!!!!!

the recruiters are people too. so no one should generalize them. whether or not they give a damn about you depends on your recruiter. either way, they don't lie to you. that's illegal. if anything, they'll only tell you the pros in joining the army and not any of the cons. that's not lying. one of the recruiters at my station told my mom right in front of me everything that will and could be expected to me as a soldier to this country, that i could die regardless of my mos.. etc.

You don't see me going to the ARMY to be one. I had to do a paper on military recruiters and I did 6 months of research. Jobs are not given by recruiters, but by career counselors at MEPS. Second, a system called MLPDS will identify what jobs you qualify based on qualifications and availability. Obviously medic was not available.
