thing is, MLS is too easy for Altidore......or just too easy for world class footballer. The MLS has become sumwhat of a retirement home for washed up world class footballers trying to milk the last of their slowly dying career lol ex. Thierry Henry, David Beckham, Freddie Ljunberg....at least freddie had sum sense and went back to Europe. Two things MLS lacks are PASSION and QUALITY. You dont see Clint Dempsey and Tim Howard play on the national team by playing in the MLS....common sense
@TheLinkmaster12345 Actually, Dempsey and Howard played in the MLS. I believe Dempsey played for the Revolution and Howard played for the Metrostars (now the Red Bulls) If you asked me 2 years ago, I would of said the MLS really lacks quality (not so much passion). But in the past 2 years, the MLS has really stepped up. Anyone expecting to score 30 goals in the MLS is dreaming. This is not a scorer's league. It's a real physical league like the EPL.
@uberfunction They did, but they got smart. they knew their careers weren't going anywhere, so they packed their bags and hop over the pond to where people actually care about football("soccer"). Tim to Man United and Clint to Fulham. Look where they are now?? Putting in star performances at the top level, but sadly not every American has what it takes to make it in the big time( ironically) Feilhaber, Altidore, Adu, Cherundolo, Bradley, Keller, Rolfe all cudnt adapt to the european system.
@TheLinkmaster12345 They made a decision what any athlete who strives to be the best would do. Go to a top level league. I have no problem with that. Completely makes sense. It's the same as a european basketball player coming to the NBA. Your wrong about Cherundolo though, he's done quite well over there in Germany. Dempsey was transferred to Fulham for a price the Revolution couldn't refuse. And Howard, expressed interest to come back home to NJ to play.
@uberfunction ever realize the trend? Americans become MLS superstars and than european duds. why? bcuz the european football is at a much faster, quicker, brutal pace, and wen americans get ambitious and go overseas, they fail to adapt with the physicality and finesse of the europeans(excluding demps and tim). our capitalist system requires us to go to college, so by the time ur 20, u've played under several different coaches hindering your growth as a player or we have no youth academies!
@TheLinkmaster12345 Dempsey and Howard weren't exactly superstars when they played in the MLS. European football is definitely faster, quicker (but brutal could be argued in some leagues, check out League 2, England). Yes, you americans HAVE(you don't actually have) to go to college but you are completely wrong about the youth academy. Look it up, the US has a youth academy (IMG, i'm not even american and I know this) and it's actually improved their talent. BTW, Donovan did well for Everton.
@TheLinkmaster12345 Not sure if you actually watch football but the MLS isn't exactly a walk in the park. Thierry Henry(he's been getting injured and still plays) and Beckham had to bulk up to play in that league. Ljunberg was just plain rubbish and went back to Europe because he can't play that physical style. The MLS, skill-wise is comparable (maybe) to English League Championship level with the physicality of League 1. Watch those leagues, the EPL and Serie A isn't that physical.
@uberfunction Youth academies....FOR CLUBS, m8, as in players get bought at 8-14 and are developed under ONE style of play instead of multiple. I WATCH A LOT OF FOOTBALL. I maybe dont analyze it as much but....EPL(You'll Never Walk Alone :P ), Serie A(La Rossoneri/pirlo to juve), the Championship(swans: 1st welsh team promoted 2 prem), even Lg.1(hull + phil brown= magic, SO preston+pb=magic :D) Lg.1 and MLS r so poor they rely on ordinary physicality rather than rare natural born talent
@TheLinkmaster12345 Whoa mate. Calm down. MLS clubs have a youth system too. The league has only been around for 16 years whereas the leagues you are mentioning has been around for decades to over a hundred years. Rome wasn't built overnight so these things take time. It's one thing to be anti-american, but if you are a true football fan, you should be happy about the progress of this sport, especially in non-football cultured countries.
@uberfunction try living in the states and listen to people babble about rubbish sports like "football" and baseball even basketball. the day espn talks about "soccer" is the day the world ends. 94' had the most attendance cuz we americans like sports. nobody knew the rules to football, but they just went for simple amusement. @TheLinkmaster12345 Actually, mate, I DO live in the US. I moved here from England 10 years ago so I believe I have a good understanding of sports cultures in Europe (my wife is Portuguese) and the US. @uberfunction OF COURSE, theyre in it for the money, EVERYBODYs in it for the money. how do think things get done?! Facilities managed, players and staff salaries, transfers!! But it is abt the fans as well. y? no fans=no cash. They HAVE to do SUMTHING for the fans or theyre just losing a shitload of money. Im also aware tht America does care abt football, but i feel tht they dont know what true quality is. they ONLY know the MLS. and i hope ther would look over seas and see wut theyre missing.
@TheLinkmaster12345 I think you have to give americans more credit mate. A good number of them do know quality football. People tell me, (an englishman) that I don't know real NFL football but I prove them wrong. Some of the americans I know are very knowledgeable about global football
@uberfunction yeah, so do i, but theyre are not enuf 2 change the way americans view soccer. Losing at the gold cup didnt help the cause either. the US team needs a quality european manager who knows how the europeans play and can mold the team into a class side tht can compete let alone rival the with the europeans. idk. America wud rather pay attention to their OWN sport than one they suck at. We are a VERY ETHNOCENTRIC country and everybody wants b like us......tht just sickens me.
@Datolo551 to be fair, he's still young. I was rather impress with his play in the confederations cup till he got the injury. Americans, you know who you should be proud of, Freddy Adu. You're telling me that with a population of 300 Million people this is the best striker we have??!
@Linky360 To be fair, the United States is NOT a football/soccer country. They are an NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL culture before soccer. Europe's academy system is years ahead of the US. That's an absolute fact. Altidore is a good striker but I don't think he had the skill to be in La Liga. He's more a championship level(2nd tier) in the England. While I don't think the US is that bad, they just need to establish creativity on the field. Like the creativity they possess in the NBA.
yeah this guy is really something else in MLS because it is a inferior league, when this stupid monkey went to the WC he did nothing ,fuck him useless piece of trash! Lost to fucking Ghana
i high fived jozy right before he was subbed into the game where he scored his first ever goal. that was the coolest thing to ever happen in my life, now hes a star.
I love how he uses his strenght and body when playing football (soccer). Just watch his goal against Spain. Its great to see him playing in the PL for Hull.

If you were a real man you would throw that banana here in the United State at Jozy, but you are to much of a pussy to do so.
not to mention that jozy is very young still with a splendid opportuntiy to still be an international star. Its a good thing jozy has better vision and persistance than his critics
@Retroexperto a pointless statistic. There's a time in life where you got to realize some people are going to be stupid no matter where their location is dude.
@duffdodge Athletico Madrids academy, i've trained with them. And he is a failure in Spain, what you think sitting on the bench for Spanish mid table team makes him amazing, one thing about La Liga is your either good, Real Madrid, Athletic Madrid, Valencia, Barcelona or your poor Hercule, Getafe, Villarreal. Villarreal haven't even won La Liga. Done crap all in spain, went on loan to Hull got relegated, came back to spanish bench. he is somewhere in the middle of EPL and Championship footballer
He looks a real talent. Played well at weekend. It's only a matter of time before the yanks start bringing through good players on a consistant level.
And for those cock suckers bitchin over whether u call it football or soccer.... Get a life u bunch of nincompoops...... It's how u play it, not how u say it!!!!!!

well said, good enough to start for US since he was outclassed by many other strikers in the confederations tournament. give him a few years though...
his goal in the U.S. Spain was in no way lucky he desplayed great strength in sheilding his marker and then picking the right corner casillas was moving left towards the far post, and the shot went to the right and any good keeper knows that momentum going one way and the ball going the other is bad news if the shots on frame
You do realize that Jozy doesnt play in MLS anymore...he transferred to Spain last summer. He signed with Villarreal and even though he got a few starts, he never really got much playing time.
Earlier this year, Villarreal loaned Altidore to Xerez. And even though they are leading the Segunda División, I dont see how playing with them is any better than MLS. Everton wanted him but Villarreal wanted him to stay in Spain to assimilate into the culture.
While playing with Xerez he will get MUCH more playing time, and thus be able to improve his skills much more than if he was playing in first division. Also, I'd say that segunda division is still better than MLS. I think it was a good choice to loan him out to xerez, so in a couple of years he can come back to la liga and he will be better than ever.
Well Xerez won promotion to LaLiga so we'll see about the playing time. He has yet to make an appearance with the team (presumably because of the toe issue he has had - although he has made national team appearances?).
I do agree the style of play in Spain is superior to MLS - and I agree that the league is suited to Altidore's talent (he should flourish there in a couple years). The question is simply playing time so he can develop. We'll see how much of it he gets in the coming season!
True, I pretty much agree with everything you just said, but remember, a team from 2nd division that moves to 1st division won't suddenly get a roster of all-star, or maybe even 1st division-worthy players. The team will still generally be about the same in terms of skill. But I think everybody watching this can agree that we hope to see more of Altidore in the future, and good luck to him!
THIS GUY GREW UP IN MY CITY IN MIAMI, FL!!!! I used to see this guy in the parkk all the freaking TIME!!!! this guy got alot betterrrr,,, you culd tell he worked hard becuz when i used to see him , he was very common....
I never realized this guy was so well known!!I bought him for my club on FIFA 09 and thought he was excellent,so I googled him and found all these videos of him!I hope he plays for Man U some day!!!
ummm he's not that great, thats probably why he doesnt get to play on villareal he shouold've stayed in the mls, where he can score, doesn't look like much footskills are there either
I heard ManU was intersted and I so wanted him to go to Old Trafford when it looked like Fulham was leaving the top flight. But now he can totally go. woo hoo!
yo wats the name of this song hella like it...also Jozy is my favorite player behind dempsey that is...well its like 1 to 1 1/3 you know? since the first time i saw jozy it was over....even tho he stole dempsey's diving header against mexico not hatin a u.s. point none the less!!!!

well said, good enough to start for US since he was outclassed by many other strikers in the confederations tournament. give him a few years though...
isaacnewtin 2 years ago
his goal in the U.S. Spain was in no way lucky he desplayed great strength in sheilding his marker and then picking the right corner casillas was moving left towards the far post, and the shot went to the right and any good keeper knows that momentum going one way and the ball going the other is bad news if the shots on frame
cincicats009 2 years ago 3
I dont think he will see much playing time. He needs to work on his ball skills.
sataraid 2 years ago
he does, his goal yesterday vs. spain was lucky, casillas made a bad move.

usa league cant give jozy much exp..
he must be in league that high in competition to develop his skill better..
riqueluqme 2 years ago
You do realize that Jozy doesnt play in MLS anymore...he transferred to Spain last summer. He signed with Villarreal and even though he got a few starts, he never really got much playing time.
Earlier this year, Villarreal loaned Altidore to Xerez. And even though they are leading the Segunda División, I dont see how playing with them is any better than MLS. Everton wanted him but Villarreal wanted him to stay in Spain to assimilate into the culture.
duffdodge 2 years ago
While playing with Xerez he will get MUCH more playing time, and thus be able to improve his skills much more than if he was playing in first division. Also, I'd say that segunda division is still better than MLS. I think it was a good choice to loan him out to xerez, so in a couple of years he can come back to la liga and he will be better than ever.
parkervn 2 years ago
Well Xerez won promotion to LaLiga so we'll see about the playing time. He has yet to make an appearance with the team (presumably because of the toe issue he has had - although he has made national team appearances?).
I do agree the style of play in Spain is superior to MLS - and I agree that the league is suited to Altidore's talent (he should flourish there in a couple years). The question is simply playing time so he can develop. We'll see how much of it he gets in the coming season!
duffdodge 2 years ago
True, I pretty much agree with everything you just said, but remember, a team from 2nd division that moves to 1st division won't suddenly get a roster of all-star, or maybe even 1st division-worthy players. The team will still generally be about the same in terms of skill. But I think everybody watching this can agree that we hope to see more of Altidore in the future, and good luck to him!
parkervn 2 years ago
agreed...division 2B gives MLS a lot of work...FUGETABOUTIT!

2 years in spain should get him nice and ready for the world cup in '10. hopefully hell be in the lineup before the confederations cup.
