A very special short for me, from an all too brief time with a very special lady. Seeing it is like going back to visit that wonderful time, thanks a million for posting it!
WOW I turned into an instant kid..... this brought me right back... thanks for creating this site and thanks for the original animation... this is a pure classic
I love this! I remember Stan Freberg from when I was a kid too. I liked him then, but listening to him now, I find him strident. The animation softens that. By putting him visually right into the song, he is made an insider.
This was such a huge influence on me when I saw it on PBS as a kid. It was my introduction to Stan Freberg and all of his brilliant comedy. I don;t know why MORE of his work hasn't bveen animated, but I'm working on rectifying that. Thanks for posting this timeless classic!
I could basically repeat everything wfarrar69 said! I so wanted to do a lipsync to this in high school! My fave part that always stuck with me was the singer's sudden frightening expression/pose singing about the tarantula!
liviuarh, I'm Paul Glickman the creator of the Calypso Singer. I was happy to see it on the internet, but as you must know it's a copy shot from a 16mm projection. It's a shadow of it's real look and sound. But you've inspired me. I am going to go back to the 35mm master and try to do a top notch HD version. I'll let you know when I've posted it (probably months from now) But I hope at that time you'll withdraw your posting so the clean version gets to be seen and I, the creator, get the credit.
@paulfrankglickman I love this clip! I remember it from the old Great Space Coaster tv show. Please do upload a clean version. I'm checking out your videos now.
the first time i saw this clip on a tv show called the great space coaster and laugh my head of.it also got me hooked on listening to stan freberg.you just made my night on seeing this old filmclip again.thank you for posting a classic here.
BWAHAHAHAHAHHA!!!! FanTASTIC!!! Me and my buddies discovered this on a VHS tape in the mid 90's at the end of a party at my house while my parents were away. We were just teenagers....stoned, drunk....watched this like 10 times in a row, couldn't stop laughing.
I first heard this as a kid on WGN radio in Chicago. They used to play big band, show tunes, folk songs and things like the vocal from this clip. They also had the Farm report on Saturday morning. It drove my brother and I crazy.
Heard this song onthe radio one Sunday morning while driving, Stan Freeburg is great. It made my day. The different videos on youtube are funny and well done.
We were singing this in a subway in London at the weekend and laughing like 5 year olds - and we are both in our 40's - brings back memories of Ed Stewpot childrens hour on the radio on a saturday morning - thanks so much for posting it
I love this! Channel 13 in Dallas used this as a filler back in the days when they didn't have "corporate sponsors". Its like reliving 1985 in the minutes between Dr Who (Tom Baker) and Alive From Off Center.
Crazy man like I dig this. It reminds me of a long time ago when the TV was fun and not just about x factor big brother or some other load of .... They used to slot little clips like this if they needed to fill time .. Like I'm gonna take my bongos and split
@heine71 I don't remember if this was featured but I do remember hearing "Elderly Man River" on Demento with Daws "Huckleberry Hound" Butler doing the voice of the prudish Mr. Tweedly. If Liviuarh could locate and upload the complete recording of that classic I'll be extremely impressed!
This and WUNNERFUL WUNNERFUL brings back memories of my early teaching career in a remote school in Australia. In 1969, we only had a record player, no cassettes etc, and the kids would mime both of these pieces. Not having seen any visual representation, their imaginations could run wild. Children especially 9 to 12 year olds are natural comedians and mimics. Come on all you teachers, try it with your grade.
I remember seeing this video as a kid too. I recently heard Paul talking about how he created it, and got permission from Freberg to do it, during an interview on the Public Radio station about his work.
U're wellcome .. I've been searching this clip for years over the internet. I remembered it from childhood period... Finaly i've found it and post it here
Fabulous! According to a 1999 interview with Freberg, the guitarist on this track was Glen Campbell !!

@paulfrankglickman It’s a pleasure to hear from you.
I would be more than happy to see this clip in a HD format. It’s a brilliant work and as you can see for yourself many appreciate it.
I do not intend to take any credit for anybody’s work.
No question about it, I will make way for the “clean”version of “The Calypso Singer”.
All I can say is… Thank You for creating this.

I totally agree and look forward to something that is even better!
I loved this animation - Freberg alone is too strident for me - very sweet.
