i don't fucking get that stupid word game. it had "BEAUTIF" and alex says "if we add a 'U' we win." how the fuck does that make sense. "BEAUTIFU" and then Mad Mouse could put a goddamn "X"
I am laughing at how HONEST the Janice chick was. Like you are a hacker terroizing the school for goodness sake when did integrity and values come in this situation. They asked her to tell how she did it and she actually did like a fool so I guess she isnt that smart lol! Then when they revealed they knew it was her, she keeps answering their questions, telling on her self smh! I would have got off the computer!
It outs me as someone wondering if they are the original character to appear on a tv show as such.. and I still asked afterwards if that was even correct because I was second guessing myself. But ookkaaay. You win the internet arguement. woo woooo. Go you.
As a person that speaks Portuguese, while technically it could be interpreted as "I'm going to get you", it's pushing it. Whoever did this is pretty lulzy and clearly not a native speaker. Which makes me wonder...Google Translate existed in 1992?
@ConceptGalaxy Bullshit. If you knew anything about computers you'd know there were bulletin boards and trolls back in the 80s, way before this show was produced. I suppose you think Max Mouse is the first hacker, too.
@encycl07pedia ugh. You think watching this stuff you'd realize how you come off trying to talk down to someone just because you know more about one particular subject. No. I don't know alot about computers which was why I was asking if troll was even slang back then. Why do people feel the need to be rude over simple questions? I didn't start using computers till around 2000 and didn't hear people use the term "troll" till about 5 years ago either. Way 2b a pretentious and predictable hipster.
In the real world, Hector would've sustained either a beating or worse. Best case would be Hector eating a few fists then ensuring that him being bullied would come at a high cost to the bully in the future.
@davinomyster perhaps maybe she's under the impression that since she's a kid the judge will go lenient on her or perhaps her mother and father can hire a powerful lawyer.
I remember after all these years that Jamal scolded someone for touching him while he was trying to type. I even remember that the word eventually was beautiful. This was probably my favorite arc.
What a juxtaposition. Janice, the computer hacker, is in a room of stuffed animals and a purple troll on her computer. Not to mention, pigtails. Guilt amongst innocence. Actually, a term for people who try to start fights over the internet is troll. What a subliminal message. In the 1990's a troll was a toy or a creature that lived under a bridge in children's stories, and Janice is having her own flame war, as expected from a troll.
The story was good, but what actual proof did they have? She confessed to them, but how could they prove they tracked her phone number and got a confession?
@santafe37s Yup, that's because there are no phone numbers that begin with 555. Keeps writers from inadvertently writing a real person's phone number into a show or movie.
But how can they prove it to the cops? What evidence will they have against her exactly? Only way I can think of is if they find the school's number in her computer, since they can't prove it the other way around.
I saw this back when it aired some 15-16 years ago. Now after all these years, I finally found out who Max Mouse was, lol. A shame that they don't show what happened to Janice afterward though.
Now see...they don't show what actually happens to Janice after they call the cops. But I'm pretty sure, since she knew she was going to get arrested, she would have either ran away or committed suicide.
This was my favorite episode from the series. Still, I can't believe how horrible the puns and jokes were. Even for kids it was bad. Plus, that punk girl Erica and the bully's attitudes were so cheesy. Still, for it's time it was funny and cool.
The B story with Hector and the bully seemed a little tacked on. Still this has always been one of my favorite episodes. I love how the technology and terminology is so dated now. hehe
Everyone that doesn't get the ghost game is fucking stupid. While you're putting letters down, you have to be spelling out an actual word, because otherwise the game would last forever. Stay off the computer for a couple days and go read a book.
they really didn't have any hard evidence to prove Janice was Max Mouse. they can't tell the cops, "Yeah, our friend Ghostwriter tracked her down through the computer." They'll need something before they can go charging in with a warrant. That's a mistake on the writers. If she has said in the chat room "I am Janice Hall." then they would of had something.
janice admitted to it though. and they had the number to her modum. the police probably could have done some sort of check to see if the hacking came from her computer. just a hunch.
She is a little girl. She would probably had to serve some time in Juvenile hall but I don't think the police would f- her up. At least I hope they wouldn't. If they would they would be in trouble themselves. I hope you are kidding. Yes she did some bad things on the computer but it isn't like she brought a gun to school. And I wonder if it was Calvin if you would have the same response. Honestly I feel really bad for Janice all she wanted was attention. :(
If she had any brains, she would have realized they way she was going about trying to get attention was wrong, and that if she got caught, she'd be in serious trouble.
If she was an adult she sure should but again she is a kid. Kid's do stupid things all the time they don't think because their minds aren't developed enough yet. It is up to parents to teach their children right from wrong. There are very few adults in the world that don't look back on their childhood and wish they hadn't done something that they now know is wrong. HIndsight is 20/20 as they say.
I kind of feel bad for her too, but she'd have to pay the price for what she had done anyway. It was serious. Especially the part where a kid nearly died in a fire.
Okay apparently I didn't leave out the word people in my 1st comment. But when I looked at it looked like I did. Okay it is official Max Mouse is in charge of the comment system. ROFL
You can challenge the other player to come up with a word if they put a weird or random letter. If they couldn't come up with a word that started with "beautifuj," they'd lose. But if there turned out to be some obscure word that does start that way, the other person would lose.
I love it when Gaby hugs the computer once Ghostwriter and team beat Max Mouse. Once everybody got hugged, Gaby really gave one big hug to Ghost Writer. What can I say? Gaby was so adorable!
They shoulda showed when Janice got busted for all the trouble she caused. Ms. Kelly probably would have suspended or more than likely expelled her and she woulda got charged by the police.
You said it, sigh...those where the days, only I watched it in the 90's on The N/Noggin...kids really learned a lot from this show...this episode alone teaches how to handle bullies and what happens to hackers, not to mention what they can do to your computer...which is why you should NEVER trust ANYONE online. Hacker or not, I've heard of a lot of things happening online...like a girl killing herself out of depression because of what someone posing as a boy said to her. ALWAYS BE CAREFUL!!!

hey i saw your comment and i dont know if you have this show on vhs but i have 2 episodes of it on vhs that are legally made by ctw and are very high quality if your interested let me know?
But also this show was trying to teach people how to communicate, and chatspeak ISN'T a great way to communicate :p And on a lot of bulletin boards, people do type out their words!
i know. i wanted to see that too. they should have put that in the episode. if we saw janice get caught by ms. kelly and the police, janice would prolly explain herself and get so angry at people for not noticing her and prolly explain that that's why she had to find a way to make people suffer for not noticing her.
However, Janice found out the hard way that revenge gains you nothing in the end. When a person leads a lifestyle of retaliation, the only person he ends up destroying is HIMSELF.
i don't fucking get that stupid word game. it had "BEAUTIF" and alex says "if we add a 'U' we win." how the fuck does that make sense. "BEAUTIFU" and then Mad Mouse could put a goddamn "X"

These episodes predate chatspeak. That is obvious in the interaction amongst everyone on the bulletin board.

But also this show was trying to teach people how to communicate, and chatspeak ISN'T a great way to communicate :p And on a lot of bulletin boards, people do type out their words!

Jamal should've used "S" to spell beast.:)

But the whole idea of the game "Ghost" is to make a word without having to make a short one accidentally.

This has been flagged as spam show
Guess that makes sense.

this must have been PBS. I watched it on both PBS and Noggin and Noggin cut out a lot of scenes.

jasmith26 3 years ago
I wanted to see everyone talking about it at school or see her being taken away. haha
DMag123 3 years ago
i know. i wanted to see that too. they should have put that in the episode. if we saw janice get caught by ms. kelly and the police, janice would prolly explain herself and get so angry at people for not noticing her and prolly explain that that's why she had to find a way to make people suffer for not noticing her.
JustinSTUPIDITY 3 years ago
My thoughts exactly!
DMag123 3 years ago
yea, lets watch the degradation of a little girl, wooo go youtube users
SZF123456 3 years ago
However, Janice found out the hard way that revenge gains you nothing in the end. When a person leads a lifestyle of retaliation, the only person he ends up destroying is HIMSELF.
