Wow his foot technique is really awesome. I tries to do what he does with his feet. Now it is more than a year I have been practicing his foot technique and I am still not able to get it. I think I am doing it wrong. But really amazing. Any body knows his foot technique or how he does it? Thanks in advance
@personaltip Its the slide technique. You start from the middle of the pedal tap it with your toe then slide your foot forward and tap with either your entire foot or toe again
@personaltip the slide techinique. If you can't do that, try the heel-toe. It does the same thing as the slide. It allows you to get a fast double in on a pedal.
@TheOREOswagger Thanks a lot for yoru help. I will practice it and hopefully I will get there. Thanks a lot for taking time to give me this advice. I really appreciate it. Thanks a lot
I'm not a hater by any means but Gerald had his time. They edited this video. On the unedited version he fucks up really bad and loses control of the pocket coming out of a roll. That's why you don't hear the track for the rest of the video. Pass the torch bro! Not me though lol
A bit too much of a show off. Like Teddy Campbell is good. I think if he didnt add tooooo much it would be good. Note that on two times he looses hitting the crashes the time.
@cvcgac I do that grip too. Its for when your hand gets STIFF cause the bloodflow is overworking to hold that stick. So thats to Re circulate the blood in your hand.
I love the way this guy plays. I know it's not to everyone's taste, but it has chops and loads of soul and what else can you ask of music? It has it's place. I still love Jim Keltner, I still love Gadd, because they do the same thing, precission and soul.
I would jizz if the whole crowd cheered at me after the epic bassdrum patern at 0:32. But Gerald just doesn't give a shit :D I think he's one of the most talented DW endorsers and I love his VF signature sticks!
@ryanandbranslurppiss It does look like he hold the stick between his pointing finger and his middle from time to time... look at it good tell me if u see it
@magamegabamba To be exact, it would be the SLIDE technique. Not so many people use the heel-toe as much, it's mostly slide that's being used everywhere.
@MAC616 you know that even over a video on the internet, you can still be a huge dick in real life. thats so disrespectful on so many levels, including the fact this guy can drum circles around anyone commenting on this and has twice the soul/funk/groove/pocket you or anyone else has. fuckin crawl back to your ignorant whole, fuckin twatty-cunt motherfucker. im a litte white kid, and your comment even pisses me off.
its like he wanted to end this fast and just go home haha.you guys should check out stanley randolph if anybodu doesnt like gerald heyward, aaron spears,or teddy campbell that i dont see no reason why you should you will definetly like this guy cause he plays more sweeter than these others
I am really getting the idea that those hip-hop drummers like Aaron Spears, teddy campbell and this guy gerald heyward are only doing drum solo's in speed but not by hitting harder and softer. Its speed and rhythm cobination but i don't see the ghost notes and accents. Its all fast beating and mashing on your set. Where is the smoothness and attact. Its all soo fast and hard and beating the shit out of the kit.
@drummingtothesky nah they look too big to be them and the sustain carries a lot fuller. They sound more like the 14.25 hybrid k's... Ive got these exact same hats... lol
This guy is a great drummer. The only "gripe" if you want to call it that, that I have is that he, Tony Royster, Thomas Pridgen and Aaron Spears all sound exactly alike.

@OneSteveUnderGod i kinda see what you mean but aaron and gerald have two totally different styles of play if you watch them gerald is more about the groove, and aaron has those crazy chops if you see what i mean
@KEASTONBWOI Oh I agree. They each have their own distinct attributes and again I am not criticizing drummers who can drum circles around 99% of drummers including myself.

Their styles are much the same. I've been drumming for many years and over that time have heard many a drummer and they sound very similar to me. This isn't a criticism. Hell I'd kill to play near as good as either believe me, lol.
@OneSteveUnderGod Sorry to reply to this after so long bro. I kinda agree with you aye. I guess you dont ever see them doing the other genre much. But in saying that, they are getting paid to do what they do... I think Gerald has a deep pocket and a killer foot, Aaron has the full, over the barline chops, Thomas has crazy improv and technique and Tony is clinical. He's a fricken human metronome. @UnluckilyEnlightened well to be honest i personally like that grip, i mean at first it feels a little funny or "painful" but once u become comfortable with it than u feel the difference in that grip, with the power and feel u'll get off it
Some people say the grip provides more speed, light touch or plainly like some said below, better grip on the stick without turning your knuckles white trying to hold it
