  • This is real drumming

  • toca mtu mais ele embola mtu as viradas deve =/ !!

  • sloppy

  • @jts024 yeah lots of mistakes speratic wild and sloppy

  • YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • he....wow, hes pretty damn good id say

  • Only drummer to ever legitimately make me drop my jaw.

  • Wow his foot technique is really awesome. I tries to do what he does with his feet. Now it is more than a year I have been practicing his foot technique and I am still not able to get it. I think I am doing it wrong. But really amazing. Any body knows his foot technique or how he does it? Thanks in advance

  • @personaltip Its the slide technique. You start from the middle of the pedal tap it with your toe then slide your foot forward and tap with either your entire foot or toe again

  • @personaltip the slide techinique. If you can't do that, try the heel-toe. It does the same thing as the slide. It allows you to get a fast double in on a pedal.

  • @TheOREOswagger Thanks a lot for yoru help. I will practice it and hopefully I will get there. Thanks a lot for taking time to give me this advice. I really appreciate it. Thanks a lot

  • @personaltip no problem man! As drummers we are always learning something new! Glad i could help :)

  • hes a monster :D

  • THE FOOT -_-

  • aa demonio inde cuerpo

  • Comment removed

  • esta bien adultoo este man con el tema de la velocidad

  • I'm not a hater by any means but Gerald had his time. They edited this video. On the unedited version he fucks up really bad and loses control of the pocket coming out of a roll. That's why you don't hear the track for the rest of the video. Pass the torch bro! Not me though lol

  • THAT SNARE!!

  • hav u guys noticed how he's holding his stick in his right hand, its like right between his index and middle finger if u look closely

  • @TheSmar09

Similar to mallet technique....when you're playing marimba or vibraphone.

  • @larkydozer I know that he grew up playing those instruments, so that might contribute.

  • does anybody know what kind of beater he is using in this vid

  • @whapaaaaaaa I believe it's the Puresound speedball beater

  • @vorkap hey thanks alot man

  • what the song title??

  • @beatcrew089 destiny`s child: jumpin

  • anybody know the kick pedal he uses? sort of looks like a speed cobra but the beater is blue? i have no idea

  • @CryHavocband Probably a DW 9000 with a Puresound speedball beater

  • @vorkap aight thanks

  • @CryHavocband it doesnt matter. he could kill it on the biggest piece of shit of a pedal anyway

  • The downside to this style of drumming is I'm pretty sure too much funk/groove can make one man sick ..

  • The 7 People who disliked this, was Searching for "Grand Gay Reward" but found this and got dissapointed

  • Dad-Where you goin son?

Me-Going to beat some sense into the 7 loosers who dont like this video

Dad- Good idea son! Be safe!

Me- Bye!!!!!!!!!Oh wait....Where are my brass nuckels?

  • i wanna see cobus on this sometime :) (if he is, plz send me the vid)

  • Jeremy Haynes........is on Aaron and Teddy and Gerald level or beyond -----dont forget about Rob Woody

  • @TheLwchicago Marvin McQuitty?

  • he is good! sometimes i compare him with aaron spears.. but both are good

  • A bit too much of a show off. Like Teddy Campbell is good. I think if he didnt add tooooo much it would be good. Note that on two times he looses hitting the crashes the time.

  • WHY the snare sound like a DOG Barking hahaha

  • Anyone notice his grip at about 0:08. wierd

  • @cvcgac Yea Dude Him And Eddie Heyward use tht Grip Sometimes

  • @cvcgac right! never seen this before... :))

  • @cvcgac I do that grip too. Its for when your hand gets STIFF cause the bloodflow is overworking to hold that stick. So thats to Re circulate the blood in your hand.

  • @mrking15 good idea !

  • what is the name of the song ?

  • @knowhandedbob jumpin by destinys child

  • OMFG!!!!!

  • Does anyone else think that he is not as pocket as Aaron & Teddy or is it just me? Not my favourite player at this event.

  • wow he holds his sticks between index and middle

  • Aaron Spears two ?

  • He returned the Hi-Hats To its company because they couldn't handle the truth.

  • i love his feel

  • ATTACK!

  • wtf?

  • i know somebody cut the video.

  • I love the way this guy plays. I know it's not to everyone's taste, but it has chops and loads of soul and what else can you ask of music? It has it's place. I still love Jim Keltner, I still love Gadd, because they do the same thing, precission and soul.

  • i dont like these videos they make me feel insecure

  • very interesting right hand grip... never seen that before. guy's a beast

  • @hinchman12

Carmine Appice used to do this decades before him... :)

  • whats the name of the song he was grooving to?....someone please tell me

  • @kenchi9999 jumpin by destinys child

  • i did something like 1:12 once, and I was like, "HOLY SHIT! HOW DID I DO THAT"

  • you can't dislike this video you just can't !!!!!!

  • I really like how when the actual track is cut his soloing still sticks to the groove that he created for it.

  • Its funny how the only people are hating on this are people whos music has no groove.

  • is that heel toe?

because it looks like an axis pedal great for the heel toe, brilliant drumming!

  • @thefear10001 i think its a dw9000 pedal :)

  • Before I say this, I'm not trying to be racist in any way. Black people just have so much rhythm it blows my mind.

  • dude how in the hell could you hate this style of drummng? Gerald is a beast.

  • I really hate this kind of drumming.

  • 0@freedetheman - thats funny because i heard the style of drumming you play, and its horrid...=)

  • @freedetheman - thats funny because i heard the style of drumming you play, and its horrid...=)

  • @freedetheman thats cos you cant play like this

  • What style of drumming is this because a wud like to practise and learn this style.

  • @knowhandedbob heywards considered a "gospel" drummer, which basically entails r&b, hip-hop, etc. its good stuff to really broaden your groove skills

  • @knowhandedbob Do as many fills as possible. No, really. In a nutshell, there you have it. Run along.

  • I would jizz if the whole crowd cheered at me after the epic bassdrum patern at 0:32. But Gerald just doesn't give a shit :D I think he's one of the most talented DW endorsers and I love his VF signature sticks!

  • That snare sounds like a counter top.

  • his foot is brilliant 0o

  • brillent love it

  • brilent love it

  • how come he holds his drumstick funny in his right hand? what kind of grip is that?

  • @kniehk he only does that at one part to hit the hi hat and the snare with both ends of the stick

  • @ryanandbranslurppiss It does look like he hold the stick between his pointing finger and his middle from time to time... look at it good tell me if u see it

  • @Boneztmac yeah now i see what your talking about

  • @Boneztmac He does that because his wrists are jacked up from years of bad technique. A friend of mine found out

  • @ocbfdog For real??

  • Jesus... please give me his ankle...

  • @bamktbam14 NO!!NO!!! Jesus... please me!!

  • @Lewix995 NEVER! lol hahaha

  • @bamktbam14

i think he is using hill-toe technique...

  • @magamegabamba To be exact, it would be the SLIDE technique. Not so many people use the heel-toe as much, it's mostly slide that's being used everywhere.

  • @SoulnRasen what is it "slide technique"?

can you send me a link to an explanation of this technique?

  • @magamegabamba

    its sliding. i am positive.

  • dude can freakin play! lovin those hi hats and that snare...damn that whole kit!!!

  • Ah, the miracles of crack on Afro-Americans.

  • @MAC616 you know that even over a video on the internet, you can still be a huge dick in real life. thats so disrespectful on so many levels, including the fact this guy can drum circles around anyone commenting on this and has twice the soul/funk/groove/pocket you or anyone else has. fuckin crawl back to your ignorant whole, fuckin twatty-cunt motherfucker. im a litte white kid, and your comment even pisses me off.

  • 0:30 beautiful :)

  • its like he wanted to end this fast and just go home haha.you guys should check out stanley randolph if anybodu doesnt like gerald heyward, aaron spears,or teddy campbell that i dont see no reason why you should you will definetly like this guy cause he plays more sweeter than these others

  • I am really getting the idea that those hip-hop drummers like Aaron Spears, teddy campbell and this guy gerald heyward are only doing drum solo's in speed but not by hitting harder and softer. Its speed and rhythm cobination but i don't see the ghost notes and accents. Its all fast beating and mashing on your set. Where is the smoothness and attact. Its all soo fast and hard and beating the shit out of the kit.

  • I don't think he was on his game for this performance. He gets mad at the roll being sloppy at 1:30 just stop playin. Does anybody know what I mean?

  • @USMCdrummer06 a bit, but the sound quality isn't that good as well. So it could be that as well!

  • raw

  • @OneSteveUnderGod - Pridgen is definitely more dynamic, but I can see where you are coming from

  • my inspiration....time to go and practice

  • MY GODDDDD

  • that snare is weak.

  • 13.25 hybrid k custom hats?????

  • @drummingtothesky nah they look too big to be them and the sustain carries a lot fuller. They sound more like the 14.25 hybrid k's... Ive got these exact same hats... lol

  • This guy is a great drummer. The only "gripe" if you want to call it that, that I have is that he, Tony Royster, Thomas Pridgen and Aaron Spears all sound exactly alike.

All great drummers, but it almost seems a little cookie cutter to me.

Just an observation and not a criticism.

  • @OneSteveUnderGod i kinda see what you mean but aaron and gerald have two totally different styles of play if you watch them gerald is more about the groove, and aaron has those crazy chops if you see what i mean

  • @KEASTONBWOI Oh I agree. They each have their own distinct attributes and again I am not criticizing drummers who can drum circles around 99% of drummers including myself.

My point is just based around my personal preference I think. I love these guys, but when I listen to each one it doesn't tickle that aspect of what moves me to the degree of a Weckl or Donati.

I do love to listen to them, but I look for differences and uniqueness to get me really tweaked.

    Peace...

  • @OneSteveUnderGod tony roytser jr an thomas pridgen do not sound the same they drum very diffrent bro

  • @ronnytravisbarker22 Type in Tony Royster & Thomas Pridgen Gospel Chops.

    Almost identical.

Their styles are much the same. I've been drumming for many years and over that time have heard many a drummer and they sound very similar to me. This isn't a criticism. Hell I'd kill to play near as good as either believe me, lol.

    Peace..

  • @OneSteveUnderGod Sorry to reply to this after so long bro. I kinda agree with you aye. I guess you dont ever see them doing the other genre much. But in saying that, they are getting paid to do what they do... I think Gerald has a deep pocket and a killer foot, Aaron has the full, over the barline chops, Thomas has crazy improv and technique and Tony is clinical. He's a fricken human metronome. They are all more than capable of playing other genre.

  • @OneSteveUnderGod Listen to George "Spanky" McCurdy or Chris Dave.....Far from cookie cutter!

  • Pause at 30 seconds, that would make a great nike advertisement

  • Lmao!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • I swear it's the oddest sensation, but it looks like his right hand stick position is off. He has it between his index and middle fingers!! Can someone else confirm this? Check out 0:10 I swear it's between his index and middle finger. Truly odd, and probably very painful...

  • You're right....

    That's seriously weird.

  • yea he's infamous for that grip, a lot of drummers use that grip, gives u more feel and more power over the stick..i personally like that grip although some say its painful but i think its comfortable, it takes some getting use to!

  • @musicallytoned1 Really? I heard it was painful so I didn't try it!!!! You think it really gives more power and feel?

  • @UnluckilyEnlightened well to be honest i personally like that grip, i mean at first it feels a little funny or "painful" but once u become comfortable with it than u feel the difference in that grip, with the power and feel u'll get off it

  • @JaySharp604 Yeah, thats how he holds his sticks sometimes.

Thats what he would do if he had no thumbs.

  • Does someone know the name of this song?

  • Jumpin by destiny's child

  • Thank you very much!

  • sloppy, in my opinion

  • i kinda agree with you. but only kinda, cause i still cant do that.

  • please tell me he has double pedals.. holy crap dude!

  • @NoviceartistJC Nope single!!! lol he has some serious foot speed!!!!

  • @NoviceartistJC Not THAT fast or complicated, people. Just have got to say it.

  • gerald's a god ... groove pocket technique and moreover great ideas and creativity ... excellent !!!

  • im practicing the fill at 0:42. Does anyone have any tips??

  • i cant remember the name of the video but theres a slow motion vid of it

  • almost as good as Jojo Mayer. HAH!

  • ....omg single pedal?....

  • the right hand ... i do that when i get blisters on index finger so i put it on the other side of my index

  • 0:30, take that heel toe!

  • Some people say the grip provides more speed, light touch or plainly like some said below, better grip on the stick without turning your knuckles white trying to hold it

  • what happened to the full video of this

  • hudson music took it off

    BULLSHIT

i guess they want to make money tho

  • yes i have seen carmine appice use the same grip it helps when you have sweaty hands itkeeps the stick from flyin out of your hand.

  • any one notice the unusual grip with his right hand? whats that all about?

  • @docterblack Maybe some ache in his first finger or something.

  • what kind of hihat is that?

  • ZILDJIAN K- custom Hybrid hi-hat !

  • yea, but what size? 13 or 14 " ?

  • look like 13 " , but I not 100% sure !

  • Anyone Know what throne and Beater Gerald uses?

  • DW . Everything is DW

  • It might be a Yamaha throne.

  • Wait sorry. Yamaha Throne with a DW cushion is what it looks like. Idk bout the beater but the pedal is deff the 9000

  • Appreciate the answer

  • its a DW air ride throne and one of the the DW B.O.A. beaters

i have those and they're really great...especially the throne

  • DW hydrolic round top, and a puresound speed ball beater

  • Nossa manow o caraa arregassa '

  • i like this, its like aaron spears and caught up, both good songs and drummers.

  • I love this style

  • uh, it's 'modern.' Heyward is the bomb!

  • This goes to show you don't need a double pedal, even though sometimes they sound. This negro follows the Real Drummers Manual: GROOVE, SOUL, LOVE, LIFE!.

  • I don't really know anyone that uses a double pedal for syncopated 32nd note rhythms in gospel grooves -- can you think of any examples?

I feel like everyone does the double and triples with a single pedal these days.

  • Hello everybody I'm from Brazil that music is such that the gerald 's playing?

  • Hello everybody I'm from Brazil that music is such that the gerald 's playing?

  • Destiny's Child (jumpin'jumpin')

  • is dat a speed ball bass drum beater??

  • i think so

  • @emmanuelbeats no. thats a pure sound blue beater

  • @emmanuelbeats what is a speed ball beater, and does anyone knows what kinda pedal hes using right there?

  • @emmanuelbeats yes it is with the felt

  • the boy is sick
