  • I frikkin LOVE how they all started dancing at 4:07

  • @mrduckbear11 i think the Boos were "Bluuuuuuueeeeeesssss"

  • that chord at the end............ gaaaawwwwddd

  • ...anybody else want to slap the shit out of Nick Lachey at the end of the performance!!??

  • ...sad that even on a show called "SING OFF" that the groups are judged on commercial appeal instead of there raw ability to "SING". Afro Blue took home the win in my book!!

    One time for actual talent!

  • the funky accompaniment doesnt match the mellow singing

  • I dont agree with the consensus. Cluttered, over done, and unimpressive.

  • The harmonies from 3:31- 3:34....wow....just butta

  • i melt when the bass comes in @ 2:22

  • why am i just now noticing Reggie harmonizing with the ladies @ 2:17...just killin it!!! and then he goes str8 into the low bassline!!

  • @nuancemusic - you know what...I totally missed that too! dude is talented

  • 3:10 to the end :'-)

  • I can't understand why Chrissy doesn't have a record deal..her voice is amazing!

  • See, the problem was Afro Blue was waaaay toooooo far advanced for this competition. They do things that can't be touched by others!

  • Reggie gives me chills with those bass lines...unbelievably dope.

  • @Lunaedea7 His bass is amazing, but he seemed kinda rude to the other members. Perhaps he is the lead for the group, but still kinda unnecessary.

  • @DAWells1983 What exactly are you basing that off of? There was only one moment I could think of in another episode where he was a little snippy to Eliza, but that is it. Remember, this is television, and they are trying to make everything seem as dramatic as possible. Whatever moment you saw where you decided "Reggie is rude" was probably cut to make it seem like he takes things very seriously. All I can tell by watching is the members of the group get along very well- the chemistry shows.

  • @Lunaedea7 well, there was actually more than one clip of him being rude. like 3 or 4 actually. I recognized it because I had all the episodes saved on my DVR and I watched all their songs yesterday. I wasnt knocking them as a group. they are amazing. Its just something I noticed. And I am aware of TV editing. 2 of the clips I saw were him cutting people off when they were talking, stuff like that. But even with that said, as I said before, they are ALL amazing.

  • @Lunaedea7 reggie tight

  • I don't think that those were boos, they were more like "Blues" like their group Afro Blue.

  • 4:07

  • Ah-mazing! At 3:00 through to the end is the knockout punch.

  • Howard U for Afro Blue. Luv ya. See you on campus.

  • At about 3:21 when they stand in a line and the camera goes by them all I get goosebumps, simply beautiful!

  • 2:08 Love that harmony between those two

  • @Cmisah I agree! How could they not win!?

  • i still don't understand how they got sent home, but hey, they're still my faves. LOVE AFRO BLUE!!!!!

  • 3:10 O_O

  • The lead singer kinda looks like Lauryn...

  • that was... it was... i can't... wow.

  • I was so embarrassed for Ben lol....

  • Wow! that was really really good!

  • they were clearly the best group this season..listening to the judges they lost a week or two, but got back to what they do best which was MUSIC their way.....keep blowing together bae and y'all will be ahight...its hard in the SWAC

  • Best performance of this song in the history of music, end of story.

  • ONE TIME.....no....100's of times. Love IT.

  • Omg!!! Yea I hope you guys come to Chicago besides I would live to see you all in person... Or I'll have to take a road trip to Howard... Much love, One love

  • @MsPnutbutta5 SARA was getting on my nerve when she kept saying there was some pitch issues omg she was killing me cause i didn't hear anything but a beautiful sound it's like when one of the other judges said something good so did she if they said something bad so did she i think this show needs some real judges cause there were so many times i thought urban method sound not bad but not good enough but the judges praised them i was getting so mad needs judges to tell the truth when your bad.

  • they 're not humans

  • @taradare1 i 2nd tht!!

  • 1:45 to skip all the non-musical parts

  • Unbelievable that are absolutely incredible

  • Whoever disliked this has serious problems

  • to great to believe!!;D

  • SO. SICK. <3

  • This was my song when The Fugees did it and Afro Blue did me proud! They sound great and Christie and Reggie are BEASTS!!

  • It brings me to tears when they sing I FEEL it when they sing. it makes me love singing and music I cant even explain

  • @trubeautyoriginal Man, if you don't get out of my head.... I have the same reaction.

  • From 40 years in the past, out of the originality of the Singers Unlimited (RIP Gene Puerling and Len Dressler) ...four fully adult and seasoned jazz vocalists-- comes Afro-Blue with amazing youth and an unlimited future. I am so impressed...have no doubt that these kids will go far...and I will follow them.

  • H...U BISON!! You know! I'm so proud of being a Howard Alum. Afro Blue killed it every performance. But would I think anything different...NO! This is what we do at Howard. Great job, Afro Blue!!! Much success to you all!

  • Why do they bring tears to my eyes no matter what they sing? .. Their commitment and honesty. .. I love them!!

  • Great performance. Hard to believe Urban Method was picked over Afro Blue!!

  • @tburnett98 Agreed Urban Method's females are nowhere as good at Afro Blue's girls. Urban Method's rapper Mike was the only standout. The judges expectations got outta control. If you go back to that Janet Jackson medley that performance was great.

  • @NBNature3 I wouldnt really call Mike a standout. He's corny. He's a corn-ball. If he became a rapper, i would stop listening to rap. That mane, so wack and so lame. I would buy a Miley Cyrus rap ablum and make her songs my ringback tone, before i listen to another lame performance from Mike. Rappapella??? naw, if we talking about Mike its, Wackapella!!!

  • Amazing, incredible, wow

  • The more I listen to them...the more I think Eliza (white girl) is really the backbone of the group. She seems to have an incredible range and keeps strength in notes that some of the others can't hit as hard.

  • @christianpreachr I actually find Reggie to be the backbone, his bass lines are SICK..Hes amazing, but Eliza does have a beautiful voice, and i feel like they should give her more spotlight sometimes

  • I feel like Afro Blue is AMAZING at jazz.. but I just don't feel it in other genres.

  • afro blue the best....gone head and continue and beat the rest of the competition

  • How do you give this an A-? This was done perfectly

  • @Yesuh1 i can tell you why. its because he actually thinks he knows something about music.

  • absolutely amazing! beautiful!

  • I love afro-blue!!!! Beautiful!!!

  • Nobody was Booing them.. they were saying BLUUUU.

    BTW, Mariah can have me.

  • I love Christie! And big Reggie. That man is B-A-D!

  • dont boo real music u pencilnecks. boo justin bieber

  • This was amazing, I don't care what people say.

  • nah i heard boos

  • KIIIIIIIIIIIILLED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I think the boos were for Nick's terrible rapping

  • I think the "boos" you might have heard were "blues"

  • Christie's smile is heart melting.

  • By far the best group of musicians on this season of the sing off. They make the music they sing each week sound effortless and easy. The true stars in this group are not just Reggie and Christie, but all of the rhythm and female harmony parts. Each voice has an equally important role in crafting their sound as a group.

    Great job guys.

  • i love this song and they did this song justice.. there my fav.

  • 3:12 to 3:34... what in the name of all that's holy did I just hear?! Holy crap. There were like a gajillion chord changes in there, all of them intricate and perfect. Afro Blue and Pentatonix in the finals please!

  • 4 them nt 2 b a group tht sings hip hop tunes, they killed tht there! I wna join jus so I cn say Im apart!

  • For real though, this bass line was SICK. Made the song, which was already out-of-control!

  • Win or lose, I pray this group remains together after the show ends and even entertain recording somehow. Hopefully, a talent scout or record A&R person watches this excellent vocal showcase and pluck some of this talent. The music industry needs more act like this!!

  • i wanna hear kevin from pentatonix and reggie work together, it would be eargasmic!

  • i could listen to reggie alone for hours :)

  • This had to be the best performance so far this season. I just know in my heart that the final two groups will be Afro-Blue and Pentatonix. I love both groups, and I wish they could both win!

  • OMG!!! Lauren Hill is smiling wherever she is

  • They werent booing they were saying BLUUUUUEE.. Also, is it me or does Christey kinda sound like Faith Evans....IJS

  • @DTerminatorII

She does! Also so theres some Kim Burrell in there. This was definitely their best performance. A+ all the way! All those hotttt chord changes at the end. Whooo!!!!! Reggie is a BEAST as always but now he sings tenor too! WHAT????? 3:10 on it was RAAAAAAAP!!!!! Kristie really kills songs like this. All the soul songs go to Kristie and the more pop to Danielle. Ben and Nick rapping.....OMG!!!! Hilarious!!!!!

  • @DTerminatorII i think she sounds like lalah hathaway

  • @DTerminatorII She sounds like Jazmine Sullivan to me, but I could Faith in her voice now that you say that...hmmm

  • @DTerminatorII Its u O_o

  • @DTerminatorII Honey....I have said that since the first time I heard her sing...she's definately has some of Faith's rifts and tone....OMG!!!! She is ridiculous!!!! Check her out @ 3:25....She went in and really left her influences out...

And the back-up was insane....those chords were beautiful!!!!

  • @RandymTii SOOOOOOO MAD THEM FOOLS ELIMINATED THEM!

  • @DTerminatorII i agree urban method was no where near as good as afro blue cant believe they eliminated them such a disappointment for the judges on a bad call there were other groups better than urban method like vocal point there elvis medley was stellar but the judges mess it up for them as well but what can you do?

  • @timboooski I guess Im just gonna have to buy the AfroBlue CD! =o)

  • @DTerminatorII Spot the hell on!!! Faith Evans, Roberta Flack that babe is just cool.

  • @DTerminatorII Yoo she does! Wow I'm mad it took me this long to notice that

  • If you listen closely you can hear alto soprano tenor bass its blended so beautiful

  • They were doing fine until Kristy started singing - off-pitch and off-tempo. I'd love the other girls to sing more, because I'm sorry but Kristy cannot keep time, and it's like nails on a chalkboard to me.

  • @valkyriewoman5 Christie is singing the Roberta Flack version over the Fugees beat. When I first heard it, I thought she was off too.

  • @valkyriewoman5 were you listening to the same performance?

  • Christy was sooo soothing with her solo. Sounds exactly like the fugee singer who took lead. But when that part "listened for a while"...the "while" part sounded kinda...not christy. Which was kinda unbelievable kuz shes such an amazing vocalist. But other than that...i thought tore...it...UP!!!! LETS GO AFRO BLUE!! Still # 1 in my eyes. ;)

  • afro blue is one of my favorite groups this season!

  • I don't know why, but I always find myself kind of bored watching them. Even though they're very good technically and they got everything on lock, I'm just not thrilled like I am with some of the other groups.

But daaang that bass. I could watch just him and be super entertained.

  • It was an all right performance until they started harmonizing, but they went to another level when Christine was vocalizing and everyone just came and complemented her. 8.5/10!

  • Soooo effortless.... iLOVE THEM!!!

  • This group always give me chills.... Phenomenal!

  • They were saying "blue!" which kinda sounds like booing.

  • 2.22 when they all come in with the rich bass resonaning. 3.06 with Reggie doing the bass slide. 3.33 another unbelievable chord. and 3.48 an amzing ending. All this and swagger to boot. They are killing me softkt with their sound.

  • Ben Folds is stupid LOL

  • the bass make this group i mean everybody else is really really good but there base lol speechless

  • Amazing performance of all time....am in love with you guys....keep it up...

  • the first 10-15 seconds of the performance sounds so much like the original Fugee version.. when watching it on tv i had to do a dble take.. EPIC SUCCESS!

  • Damn if that harmony that comes in shortly after 2:15 isn't the sweetest sounding thing I ever heard .... ahhhh ahhhh owwwwww!

    :)

  • I tell you, this sound just like a Track, wow

  • This is just not my cup of tea, but I do love the original version by Roberta Flack.

  • I think the people are probably saying blue not boo I don't think you can boo on that show lol.

  • There were no boos...they were yelling BLUUUEEEEE

  • That was awesome.

  • Incidentally, I predict that win or lose they (AB) WILL get a record deal off this show. Obviously if they win they get the Sony deal, but if they lose there is NO WAY they will not get offered a record deal, and probably from multiple labels. I promise you record execs who are watching this show are seeing dollar signs when AB sings.

There's no-one in this forum who is rooting for AB more than the execs at Sony.

  • @Dobermite You hit it right on the nail! Afro-Blue is on an entirely different level. I can see them making hit records. I enjoy all of the groups - mainly Delilah, Afro-Blue, and Urban Method. However, I have taking a strong liking to this Afro-Blue group. They have me singing their songs all dang on day! I love em! I pray that they win this season. But, regardless, I think this group is destined for stardom!

  • @ShoNuffRiight Sho nuff, ShoNuff, this group has everything you can ask for in a vocal group and they have it all in abundance. They have not one, but two killer lead vocalists in Christy & Danielle. Their harmonies and intricate arrangements are off the hook. Their bass is unreal. And if all that isn't enough, Danielle is gorgeous, Mariah is dead sexy and Integrity has a beautiful face/smile too. So they'll kill it on records AND videos. They're as good to look at as they are to hear!

  • @ShoNuffRiight BTW Sho Nuff, wanna hear something amazing?

Search youtube for "Afro Blue Mellow Tone" and get ready to sit there in awe.

Its a tribute they did to Ella Fitzgerald with the old Duke Ellington classic, which was one of her signature pieces, and if she were alive today she would have LOVED what these young folks did in that show.

Check it out, you'll see what I mean, its AMAZING

  • Continued ...

In closing, I have nothing against Vocal Point, its not personal, they are very good at what they do, the Glee/Show Tunes vibe, and that certainly has its nitch, but Shawn had it exactly right, Afro Blue is the type of group you can hear on the radio, on the records or live and really get into it in every instance. He knows this group has "commercial success" written all over it. If they stay together and get a record deal off this show, THE SKY IS THE LIMIT for this group.

  • Comment removed

  • IMO Strydizzah is exactly right, AB is on a whole nother level and they should win this competition in a rout. Vocal Point may be a big deal on the college circuit, but this competition is about MAKING RECORDS, its not about SHOW TUNES or who can do the best Glee impersonation, its about making HIT RECORDS, records people will buy by the bushel basket, the group that can sell out live shows on tour, that that group is AFRO BLUE ... by a mile!

    To be continued ...

  • Sounds like smooth jazz you hear on a radio. wow!

  • I'm a big Afro Blue Fan, and I think they are a Top 3 group, but I didn't care for the lead this week, which sounded out of tune. I've tried listening to it 3 times now, and each time it sounds out of tune to me. I dunno, could be a stylistic choice that I'm ignorant of, but I'm just saying that I loved the backing from the group, but the lead makes me feel uncomfortable with its tuning.

  • @gypsyjazzbo It's probably because you can't hear. Christie was tight, if she was out of tune the judges would have said so,

  • I can't wait until next week. The real bass singer in the group are bryan and John I don't know why they are not doing the bass. But what is incredible about the group they all sing classical very well. Reggie actually is a piano major he plays classical and jazz along with gospel. i like Pentantonix and Vocal point all the groups are professionals. I may have a bias towards Afro Blues, although im into classical.

  • wow that was dreamy!

  • @mrduckbear11 I'm fairly certain the boos that you hear are actually directed at Nick Lachey's whiteboy rap lol.

  • Musically they were the most creative group and added great stuff to the Melody of the song without really changing it. My favorite on the show. And they can really sing not just try to hit high notes and put put unnecessary runs in there music. You can tell each person really has a different take on music.

  • umm, the group is great but eliza sticks out like a thorn

  • Pentatonix all the way!

  • @mrduckbear11 I think they are saying "blue!" haha

  • The female singers are sexy. :-)

  • Comment removed

  • .....i don't like this group. they are good. they definitely are good. but they will not win and here's why: they don't stand out in any way. They dont have an outstanding lead vocalist to drive them (Dartmouth Aires). Their percussion is not strong. Their bass is second best (Pentatonix). Their harmonies are right up with the best and that makes them good. and their innovation/creativity is second best (Pentatonix). Overall, they just aren't the best and that will eventually hurt them.

  • @improvmaster66 YOu are crazy and don't know music. I know them personally. Everyone in that group can sing lead very well. They are not just jazz trained but at the same at Howard they had to sing and play classical and did it quite well. This song does not require to have a Killer lead to it. It's not gospel. some of the groups were singing 3 part harmony, if you listen they were in 4 part and whats amazing Reggie is not a bass he's a 1st tenor that shows how bad he is.

  • @39mwsmith I was in awe of Reggie from Week 1, and now you're telling me he's a 1st tenor? You just blew my frickin' mind. The man. Is. Amazing.

  • @SuperGraphicMan Dude is bad there's a video of a performance they did with a Jazz band. Dude is nuts!

  • @SuperGraphicMan Reggie's ear and pitch is phenomenal...i am VERY surprised to hear he is a first tenor thats pretty freakin amazing i have followed this group form "Lift Evr'y Voice and Sing" they are such beautiful people and i really hope they win!!!

  • Don't let the next show be about opera music, they would kill it. You act like your jealous you must be a Morgan graduate, oh well!!!! i do agree the other groups are good, but this group is special if you would just listen and get that wax out of your ears LOL!

  • @improvmaster66

I agree with you, I don't think they'll win but it's because people don't understand how intricate and advanced their music is. Case and point...YOU. To those that truly understand music they are the only group that "stands out". Musically there is NO ONE on their level.

The judges understand that, for sure. So if the judges determine the winner its easily going to Afro Blue. If it's put to the majority to vote then the others have a chance.

  • @improvmaster66

3:09 - 3:13. Neither Pentatonix or Aires could ever arrange something like that on their own. The whole piece really, but that chord especially.

Oh and I sing bass, Avi can't hold a candle to Reggie. Again if you don't understand that then you don't know music. Avi's great don't get me wrong but Reggie's got more than just range and depth. You've just got your ranks confused.

  • @strydizzah Afro Blue is great, but they are not the world-beaters you make them out to be. Reggie did fantastic, especially for the fact that he is a first tenor, but I also sing bass, and to me the things that Avi is doing are just absolutely insane. And I very much understand music. Also, musically there is another group that stacks up nicely to Afro Blue: Vocal Point. I'm not sure if you know this but they have won the collegiate championships multiple times.

  • Comment removed

  • @strydizzah So seeing as how there is another group in the show that has been professionally judged to be "elite" and "title-worthy", it's entirely inaccurate to say that "to those that truly understand music they are the only group that 'stands out.' Musically there is NO ONE on their level." You have your opinion, but it is NOT supported by fact. Don't get me wrong, Afro Blue is extremely talented, but no more so than Vocal Point or Pentatonix. Don't let bias ignore fact.

  • @MojaveArby

I actually know 3 of the guys from Vocal Point. We're not close friends but we've met at gigs and have kept in touch with them since. I didn't hear about Sing-Off until I heard they would be on it. So I started watching to support them. So if I'm bias it's towards them. But I don't let bias affect my opinion. They're just not as tight or as skilled as Afro Blue. I maintain that to be a fact. But we could argue musicality all day. Wasted time.

  • @MojaveArby

I've read a few comments about Afro Blue where people are horribly underestimating them. i just wanted to make a point and explain that they are top contenders. I want people to understand just how good they are.

IN MY OPINION they are the team to beat. But I'm also a jazz musician. I could be bias there no doubt. :)

  • @strydizzah Yeah, we'll just have to agree to disagree on the Afro Blue vs. Vocal Point talent thing. However, I respect your right to feel that way, just be aware that it's not necessarily grounded in fact. Honestly, it probably is because you are a jazz musician. People are most naturally in awe of people who are in their field. For example, I pay a lot of attention to Avi and Reggie because I'm a bass. Honestly, Pentatonix, Afro Blue, and Vocal Point are equally talented and top 3 stuff.

  • Hip hop is not all about rap, granted a lot of it does have rap but it is a broad genre that can be related to a lot of other styles. So when people got psyched out about the rapping, I kinda laughed. Great GREAT job!

  • Its no longer even a question of which group is the best, its not even close, Afro Blue is doing some next level stuff that I'll bet you even has Nick and the Judges in awe, even Shawn who sings with one of the premiere vocal groups in R&B history.

With their Jazz training their harmonies are insane, and their two female leads (Christy & Danielle) are killer too. Only question that remains is can they make hit records "today". I KNOW they would have back in the day, by the bushel basket.

  • Comment removed

  • they better be crowned champs

  • OH MY GOSH, THEY ARE PERFECT.

  • lmao 4:04

  • nice

  • BLUE!!!!!!! Awesome performance, as usual! Love Christie's voice!

    Favorite moments:

2:21 - when the ensemble came in

2:42 - Harmony on "Killing Me"

3:10 - The whole vamp section

And I agree with Sara, "I LOVE THIS SHOW!!"

  • 2:21 (when the ensemble kicks in) gives me goosebumps, every time. So does 3:10.

Moments like that remind you "Hey, this is Afro-Blue", and that sort of defining signature sound is an important thing, especially when a recording contract is on the line.

And as for Sara's "I love this show!" comment? Amen to that.

  • I don't think they were booing...they had to have been blueing! :D

  • If you remember Theodore "Blue" Edwards used to play basketball for the Jazz. Every time he was introduced people would yell "BLUE." I'm sure this is the same thing.

Once again, an afro blue song that you just don't get the full effect from your crappy tv speakers, I love hearing the bass on my head phones, these guys are great.

Thanks as always MRDUCKBEAR for the high quality audio.

  • 3:10. Absolutely beautiful!

  • With these guys I forget its acapella cuz the musicality is just unreal!

  • Also, with that psuedo hip-hop/rap group music video-esque thing at the beginning....I don't know how some people can say they're not fun...they're HILARIOUS!!

  • I'm really hoping it was "BLUEEEE" because yes, it's totally uncalled for (that being said, I equally don't like it when groups with weaker performances also get booed...stay classy, audience, please!) Afro Blue works like crazy to get songs not originally in their jazzy style one of their own...they certainly deserve props. I love them.

  • It's funny how afro-blue is always wearing the color blue!. Ha ha!! I think this was a perfect song choice for their group. This song is very suitable for their jazz background. Ben Folds and Nick Lachey are a mess!!

  • @Heavenlydancer10 As the yellowjackets always wears yellow.
