  • Devo sucks

  • @miceguy69 No

  • Look at Mothersbaugh go!!

    The guy is a machine!!

  • Not only were Devo great serious artists, they also made music fun. They brought a quirky 'dada-istic sense of humor that's quite rare here, then or today. Nothing like them before, or after, I'm afraid.

  • Devo still has it.. watch their live in Japan 2003 video. Its awesome.

  • GREAT!!!!!!!

  • and on this day Mark had waaaaay too many Red Bulls

OUTSTANDING shame nothing has this energy nowadays :(M50

  • @mfactor88 well accept for one thing-THERE WAS NO SUCH THING AS RED BULL back in 1980.Trust me I was there we did have Jolt Cola though.

  • @andymann05 yeh i know was only for laughs :) i think jolt was about it then, apart from guarana :) m50 i was there too

  • Not making fun or anything, but `High` doesn't have a "t" on the end of it lol

  • @DrMichaelHfuhruhurr what T ?!

  • Alan's a machine.

  • Fuckin' EPIC.

  • Stay dry in rubber boots and......

  • 2 People are stiffs

  • 326 jumping jacks......

  • Count the star jumps. How many did Mark do?

  • @hellyeah0136

    Hey...hey, hey guys.

  • Kewl

  • The lyrics of this song profoundly sum up every piece of good advice anyone will ever give you during your entire life

  • I bought the LP of this recording when I was a kid! Ha... Oh and the dude on the spotlight!! If I did that shit at a gig they would never put me on a light again that was shocking.. Although it was the 80's

  • I think I'll just do some jumping jacks real quick.

  • the guy doing jumping jacks in the corner is a beast!!!!!

  • @skakid71 Yeah he totally rocks!

  • This song was written by former co-founder Bob Lewis, who later sued Devo for idea theft because he was instrumental in creating the theory if de-evolution.

  • Flower pots for everyone!

  • Who recorded this song first? Devo or Toni Basil?

  • @Dulcimerist : Toni Basil made a very good cover of this classic Devo song

  • @Dulcimerist This song was written by Bob Lewis (Bob 0) co-founder of Devo and original manager before they has a record deal. So Devo recorded it first

  • @Dulcimerist DEVO released their third single "Be stiff" in 1977... Toni Basil released a version in 1982 which included recorded parts of DEVO

  • @Dulcimerist Its devo's song and they're Basil's backing band on the recording... devo's bassist was being stiff with toni at the time...

  • @Dulcimerist Toni Basil was going out with Jerry Casale, Devo Bass/Synth player. Quite a few of her songs were actually her singing with Devo playing

  • Oh, dreamy Jerry. You look great, even with that flower pot on your head.

  • 2 people can't get stiff so they don't like "Be Stiff"...

  • @meyery2k Clever

  • Heh, the keyboardist didn't have a part in the song so he had to do jumping jacks to make himself useful.

  • WHY IS A GUY DOING JUMPING JACKS?!?!?!?!?!

  • Go solo, no no twos

  • 2 people don't like jumping jacks

  • HAY

    HAY GUIZ!

  • why no stop start drumming? they tried so hard to be commercially viable on this album didn't they

  • That guy in the background must like to do jumping jacks.

  • this isn't HD

just in case you were wondering, its not even HQ.

  • I always thought that Mark sang this song. Jerry is such an amazing singer as well.

  • Oh that Alan! :)

  • Do you have a resolution on this?!?!? The quality is absolutely amazing.

  • @Bossafro says HD, is actually 480x360. not even close, its about 33% of HD

  • Now Alan... THAT was a drummer!

Was this the show at Long Beach? 'Cuz if so, I was there.

  • @GlorifiedTruth : it was august,17 / 1980 at Petaluma.

  • @alainfromfrance - thanks!

  • @GlorifiedTruth this video shows that mark is a team player , he could stand by the keyboard and wait for Gerald to finish singing the song ,but he does jumping jacks the whole song, I do things like that at work like carry a broom or a paint scraper or whatever around in case i run into a boss that has wandered from the comfortable confines of their office- josh Freeze human rocket gene Kuppa lives

  • @GlorifiedTruth We miss Alan. Josh is technically great and a great guy, but even after all this time he doesn't catch Devo's groove like Alan did.

  • @weaseldragon i disagree - alan was great but josh blew me away at the london gig of 2009.... we're all DEVO!!!!

  • Even if Alan has participated to the creation of some of the best Devo songs , now Josh is drumming with Devo since more years than Alan did, and he knows Devo better than nobody else. It's a real chance for all of us that this guy is a Devo fan since he was a young drummer !

  • why'd they ever let Jerry sing this song? Poor Mark looks so bored over in the corner lol . "welp, nothin to do this song ... guess I'll catch up on my calesthenics ...."

  • Good stuff!!!!

  • People nowadays tend to forget about Devo's more hardcore, punk days. Shame, really. Their pre-"Whip It" stuff is my favorite.

  • best song ever

  • DEVO sóu collonuts !!!

  • When I heard the new DEVO song "Fresh" I kept thinking that the guitar and general feel of the song reminded me of another great DEVO song but I couldn't figure out which one, but I found it, it's this one. Both amazing song proving that DEVO were pioneers back then and still manage to sound current AND unmistakeably DEVO today.

Man, I"m looking forward to the next album!!

  • yeah, Bob 1 is still at his top !

  • @alainfromfrance

Je suis bien d'accord avec toi, Alain!

  • god their concerts are SOOOOOO much fun

  • Bob 1's "blue cloud" is givin me a stiffy

    frop and a stiffy....cool

  • FUCK YEAH, Bob 1!

  • Mark gave me a really good idea... this IS a great song to exercise to, the tempo is great for jumping jacks

  • Haha I know, I use it too!

  • im not saying that gerald is the greatest bass player ever im just saying that he is underated and there are better bass players than geddy lee

  • Great quality footage of a classic

  • One of Jerry's finest moments, but Mark's still saying "look at me".

  • I saw DEVO perform their FOC show last week at the Music Box. Bob 1 was playing that blue cloud guitar.

So awesome to see it in this video.

  • does Mark M. still jump like this 30 years after ?!

  • Um........no. But he was jumping around during the perfomance of SNOWBALL.

  • @alainfromfrance yes, shockingly

  • Bob 1 is my Guitar Hero. He gave me his plectrum!!

  • jerrys such an underated bass player

  • There are better bass players than Jerry. Geddy Lee is one of these.

  • Loved the star jumps!

  • EPIC :D

  • I don't like when sb copies Devo, in my opinion nobody is worh doing it

  • and who knew that this would inspire Toni Basil?

  • I like also Toni Basil cover

  • Love Bob Mothersbaugh's guitar playing in this performance. He's always so rad on stage.

  • I really love the way Mark is participating in this performance!!! so cute

  • Yea! So good! I mean Stiff.

  • where's the stop start drumming? gutting
