Excellent idea, comparing the old and the new. If you can tell me where I can buy a 993 Turbo with 46K miles on it for under £40,000 I'm all ears! It just can't be done!
i jut realized the 993 turbo has exactly the same power as the new Carrera GTS so it is safe to assume in 13 years time the Carrera GTS (presume its still here) would have 500-525 bhp?
@Desmonddd2002 I guess that the trend of constantly increasing power won't be working in the future because of an evolution of targets in the car market as well as in the sport cars segment."Performance" will be changing its meaning over all....Btw speed and pollution restrictions are getting more and more frustrating and this trend
I laugh when staunch japanese or american car fans stick their noses up at the Turbo, saying it's slow and overpriced. What they don't realize is it was built to embarrass italian and other exotics worth double the price! No matter what generation 911 Turbo, you're still getting one epic car.
@Philx4xFar The second part of your statement is what we all can agree with and now the embarrasser is being embarrassed when compared with the 'Vette, Viper, and Nissan GTR at half the price! Maybe, the Cayman should succeed the 911.
well if 996 Gen was a mistake, I wonder what got Jeremy Clarkson (President of the Anti 911 club) to place the 996 Turbo at #2 in his top 100 cars of the 20th century?, I think that the 996 Turbo's look better then 997 TT's and I think that a 2005 Turbo S is as good as a 06-09 TT and I'd pick a 996 Turbo S over an 06-09 TT any day even though I am a 993 fan.
993 for me is probably the best 911. Last air cooled, 959 looks, very fun to drive even the simple carrera. From 996 something changed with porsche, more convertional cars I could say....
Hmmyeah, even the British must admit that Porsches are great. Their high-performance cars are usually much more expensive, less efficient (too big engines, they don't understand some things).
Oh my god! Do you really think so? If you do then americans are stupid. :S
Haven't you heard about european countries like England, Germany, Spain, France, Portugal, Poland etc. In europe there are very many countries but only one of them uses cars that have steering wheel on the right. It's England and this video is made in England. Hope you get the point!
I was replying to some1 else, if your being a sarcastic smartass, then stfu im not talking to you. If not then, i said europe in general since i didnt know which european country used right side steering wheels.
I'm sorry for being a smartass. But if you think most of europe uses right hand drive cars, then you are another american dumass! You stfu when you don't know shit.
I still love the 993. It has all the right curves in the right places. Now that it's getting on a decade old, I can finally manage to own one hahaha. I still have always love the 951s, basically because they look understated and not too many people realize they are a Porsche. With a 911, everyone knows it's a Porsche and they're either for you, or against you. At least that's what I've found after owning a few Porsches. The 997 though... well that's the epitome of a 911 today.
any real hardcore fanboy (proud owner of a 996 C2 ) knows the history of the 911 and loves the fact that they look like a hopped-up Volkswagen beetle on steroids.
Ferdinand Porsche built the original Beetle and his son turned one into a sportscar , the 911 is an evolution of the original.
btw... got nothin against porsche -- actually quite adore the 911turbo, just think that if im gunna spend over 100grand on a car, im gunna want something a bit more shouty and intimidating, but that's just me ;)
They are what you say.. And they LOVE it.. Nice try "hfcollins", ol' boy... Good to see the internet has affected your vocabulary. "fanboy"? Man, that's gay..
"fanboy' is the perfect word to describe most of the ppl commenting on this video, this isn't an intellectual discussing, its where teenagers who dream about owning supercars can go run their mouth thinking they know what they're talking about, btw ur name "dogeatscrap" some how gives me the impression that u dont own a porsche and most likely fall perfectly under the definition of a 'fanboy'

Thank YOU for obviously not comprehending any more than 40% of what I've said to you.. If you practice medicine with that brain, many Canadian patients will die. How do you say 'malpractice' in French-Canadian?
i think the 911 looks totally different then the beetle. The 993 looks pretty good even today i must say and one of the good things about POrsche, they will never look really old, a perfect car to get old with if you dont waste it as a all day car
I own a 911 carrera 3.2 and will never part with it, had it for 13 years now, but drove a 993 Turbo at the weekend for the first time....WOW... this car is a monster and I am used to driving fast. As the man said how fast do you want to go....this is fast enough it was awsome.

The Ancestor: a 993?! wtf?! A great car, but "ancestor"?
I would prefer the rear wheel drive, 4-speed, 3.0Liter, 300bhp 911 turbo from let's say 1985-87 instead all day, every day. That one's a classic! :-)

993 is much simpler car (air cooled) and lighter. throw a bigger turbos on, re-map, and you have a 500 hp beast for under 5g in upgrades

the 911 are always a bit faster than what porsche claims ! trust me !

i remember he said "i reckon that with a bit of a gradient we can get it to 200".
he was going downhill.
coolerdude44 2 years ago
yea but speedos are always few miles off, if you look at the motortrends top speed run, their speedo points over 200 but it's not in reality
TangoR34 2 years ago
It was on the speedo, and speedos generally are off a bit, overestimating often at about 5 %, so he was prolly only going 190 or so
