  • @MegaMadbiker yeah, that was the good old days, back in the 1500s to the late 1800s.

  • @RedEagle575 not sure but there is a piece of history in WW2 were the soldier played his pipes into battle. He survived I believe

  • @McMahonshaun im open to that, and i hope you are correct. I thoroughly enjoy the bagpipes.

  • sadly we dont have parades like this anymore because our dumbass politicians think that the old prussian things are nazi stuff because they are fuckin out of mind

  • *attacking castle*.... *gates open* *that walks out* *drop weapon and run*

  • TO BATTLE WE MARCH

  • @YARROWS the giants causeway or the london bridge is not my herritage i am scottish everything in scotland is my herritage and if you are not from scotland then this is not your herritage Alba gu brath independance for scotland .

  • Gaels...all around...chill. The pipes have a much more ancient beginning in Sumeria and Egypt...

  • Ah the Scots in full plummage.

  • Impressive. I wish the US Army had carried on the Pipes and Drums tradition. I guess they felt it was too British. But there is hardly anything more military and full of pomp and circumstance than a decked-out pipe band. Makes me wish I could join the British Army.

  • Haha i always think of Korn - Shoots and ladders when i hear bagpipes

  • I performed in this ....was great!!!!!!!!

  • the honour and pride to love everything about ones country scotland

the only country in the world those culture is known and played throughout the world

and of the great inventors that made this world what it is today

  • Anyone else agree this is the perfect music to march to death to?

  • الله أكبر

  • Absolutely amazing! Thank you so much!

I want to go there so badly!

    -Doc-

  • pipes = epic

  • @harrier01 I'm not sure about the other branches if the service, but in the RAF the half pace is called the slow march, most commonly used at the likes of funerals where a quick march would look out of place.

  • if i could learn to play pipe (cause i have not much time), i realy would... such a funny instrument! i love it :)

  • Its an odd thing. I'm not of Scottish descent and I'm not particularly minded. Still, when I hear a large pipe band, I get very teary eyed. Makes me really emotional. You have a right to be so proud of your country.

  • how could anyone not like this... just so beautiful

  • charisme impressionnant comme toujours, dommage que c'est pas plus long ! merci quand même :)

  • great...just great...tx for sharing :-)

  • AmAzing!!!

  • how much are tickets for this.

  • @OldCrow0031 Bruce as far back as I found - all in the United States - havent traced back to Scotland.

  • @scoutquinn what are you saying? i'm celtic with several coat of arms to prove it. i'm a rare breed especially being in the US. you saying that being a yank doesn't mean i'm not irish/welsh/scottish? wtf are you trying to say man?!

  • @LucidDream101 No you are American, you aren't Scottish, welsh, Irish, nor English. if you were born in America you are ...sadly American. Be proud of being American embrace your own culture, you know American culture like real Americans.....the ones you stole the land off.

By the way in the UK those that have coats of arms......we don't mention it.

  • @BossHogg878 i do embrace the U.S.A culture (not american because there's 2 americas) and yes i am celtic. before you start with the bullshit "i'm a fucking snob" rhetoric you should do your research. the U.S.A. is a melting pot of many traditions and mine just so happens to be the afromentioned. stop being a dick.

  • @LucidDream101 *afore. i said "afro" hahaha. yes the U.S.A. culture also has african too.

  • I was there, but a few days before this event, I saw them setting up the whole thing ^^

  • this is great I have to see this live someday

  • im proud to see i saw this live, not at the tattoo, but at a practice session when the local army cadets were allowed to watch. i was in barry budden on annual camp at the time, so us suffolk ACF cadets were allowed to watch too. ive never sen anything more powerful in my life.

  • Verdaderamente emotivo y maravilloso. Es algo mas alla que un espectaculo. Ojalá pudiera verlo en vivo.

  • Starting at about 1:30 they start doing a slower cadence step until about 2:05. Does anyone know the tradition behind that half step?

  • @harrier01 I assume you mean the Slow March? Wiki it. : This is a ceremonial pace, used for funeral marches and when a unit's colours are marched out in front of the troops. The standard pace is 60 paces per minute.

  • Who fuckin dislikes this!? Some deaf blind liar?

  • Can you recommend a time of year to go?

  • @SgtExplosion July & August are the best times, Weather can be really nice, long summer days and lots to see and do..... ahh I miss home............

  • Tis why the cost of defense for the UK.....pipers, pipes, and kilts....God bless 'em

  • The last tune is called "Clumsy Lover"

  • THANX and all best for you! Greetings from Germany.

  • My late uncle loved the bagpipes!

probably because the came on before a battle and after!

    His favorite was Amazing Grace!

If that song dont move you, you´ re a damn cold bastard!

  • Born in America, but forever a Scot!! In 2010, I'm going home to the Highlands!!!

  • what is the last tune played called?

  • The Edinburgh Military Tattoo has officially made my bucket list. Just awesome.

  • I missed out the Tattoo in Edinburgh when i was there in 87.I have many family ties in Scotland.Miller's ,Andrews,Anderson ,McNaughton. But i got to see lots of Tattoo's in Toronto in the late 70's and early 80's as member of the 48th Highlanders of Canada

  • Outstanding video, thanks for posting. This is something that everyone of Scottish descent should have on their bucket list, for sure. The year that we were there we had the same view as in the video, but from about six rows up. The sight and sound of the massed bands coming out of the castle and over the drawbridge is something that you won't soon forget ! Again, thanks for posting. Great memories of an amazing trip.

  • i was there on the left hand side and to hear it there is just amazing

  • These are actual soldiers playing the pipes and drums? They're not just musicians?

  • I'm from Croatia....I envy U.. MrBruce1990....

  • mrbruce1990...I'm from Croatia...and I'm envy U....that's wonderful.......

  • wasnt this heald in sydney this year?

  • How can the 'Edinburgh Tattoo' be held in Sydney? That's a bit of a stupid question!

  • @MadMac2236 you might want to check out the 2010 video and look at the location in the description box.

  • What you may have seen is the performers from the tattoo going on a world tour or something similar, they've done it before. But the Edinburgh Military Tattoo is held in one place only each year. Whatever you've seen elsewhere, it wasn't the afore mentioned tattoo!

  • @MadMac2236 google 'edinburgh tattoo in australia' . they made a trip to AU for 3 days of show. Even replicated Edinburgh castle on the field.

  • How can anyone possibly give a thumbs down to this ?

  • how do i get ticets to something this amazing? :O

  • anyone else find it funny when americans try pretend to be from so where else " my great grannys dugs best mates scottish, so im scottish too!" i know its hard for you to hear but your american, your grannys dugs best mate is scottish, but your american, no ifs, no buts and no mibis, your american.

  • My twin brother and I wish to travel to scotland for trhe tattoo. Where on the internet can one find the dates?

  • @rlmccullough google

  • Born in America, but forever a Scot!! This August, I'm going home to the Highlands!

  • it sounds much better when you are actually there , i work there every year :)

  • @MrBruce1990 My great-grandmother was a Bruce - part of the reason we had to visit Scotland.

  • @scoutquinn I go every year it seems now.

My Grandmother was a Bruce too, thats really cool!

But my surname's Smith, it was her maiden name before she died sadly, great lady, great grandmother miss her allot, also my grand mother on my mothers sides a Kirkbright, we all have ancestors in our family from Scotland its a great country.

Proud to have my middle name (well one of them) as Andrew lol.

  • @scoutquinn What I love is the Kilt Tartan, being able to identify who belongs to which clan as such.

I love my family's tartan, its cool, going to hire one for the next Runrig concert, thats gonna be cool, the modern one though not the ancient tartan.

My dentists a MacFarlane, met loads of Scots when I was up at a wedding on the Isle of Skye in late May, was probably the best experience I have had in years.

Just going to a local pub in the place with the brides brother lol was funny.

  • @scoutquinn deBrus?

  • @MrBruce1990 It sounds quite fine Mr. Bruce..DAMN Fine! :-)

  • @MrBruce1990 bastard............ I mean that in a kind way

  • @MrBruce1990 Lucky!!

  • Yes we are the best Simon. And we don't have a Queen up our ass like a puppet master. Remember, thats why we left!

  • @MattyKB you left UK not because of a monachy it was because of the taxes look up history before you post a comment

  • @KateFan i am not american you idiot i think you are the dumb one mate if you looked at my channel you would know this stupid!!!

  • ive never been yet but im hopin to go next year. im 1st generation american so its sometin to brag bout ;)

  • I've posted this elsewhere....it still remains true....America is the greatest country God has blessed man with, but America would be nothing without Scots. For example, look at the Declaration of Independence and tell me it wasn't at least partially born of the Declaration of Arbroath. America is alot more than Scotland to be true, but to deny Scotland as one of the key influences on the creation of our nation is foolish. Alba du grath!

  • Great Post, Aye from an Scottish American (Cathcart-Kithcart) here in the U.S. for 250 years. America would have been nothing without the Scottish people. It is something within our family DNA, though we have never been to Scotland, my immediate family loves it, my late father loved it, and my Grandfather loved it in spirit, and even before him.

  • @bill4justice2 You can't make a general statement about the Scottish people only making America what it is. I am part Scottish,English, German and Native American. Immigrants from Africa, the Orient, other parts of Europe or ? could also make that same statement. Immigrants from EVERYWHERE made America what it is.

  • noob

  • you americans and your evergoing we are th best bullshit

  • please America is nowhere near the greatest nation ever. its greatest contribution to the world? Mcdonalds lol

civilizations like the Roman empire, the Greek states or middle eastern countries that are the cradles of our world are, from written language to mathematics to the founders of demcracy and rule by law.

America has done little when you look at the world as a whole, it is but a drop in the ocean

  • These are the songs of freedom, guts and dignity, of which the Scottish people have many copyrights on, which are written on the souls of freedom loving people throughout the world....god bless the Scottish people

  • Aye I was there...though sitting in the cheap seats. Gives you goosebumps everytime :)

  • I would say they flow and gives power to walk,..one can suddently just walk and walk..

I likes all sorts of music and this is wonderfull

I must have been scottish in an earlier life...

  • Just as my Pipe Major has always told me: "The scots do not march, the walk with great pride!"

Hear, hear, the pipes are calling!

  • @backflipbushido88 march, walk and even run with pride. and in the caase of the disabled they ride with pride

  • I missed the Homecoming......but to Alba I will be....Slainte' Mhath

  • I come from Scottish ancestry, my dear ol' gran & granddad came from there. I've always gotten a chill and a shiver up my spine from the P & D's . It's gotta be genetic. I REALLY feel it in my blood. I LOVE this stuff. Goosebumps upon goosebumps!

    Thanks for posting!

  • @Buskieboy

You're absolutely right, it is Genetic!

  • was at this performance...it was sickness

  • I'm Japanese. One of my life time dreams is to see this live. Very kakkoii !

  • cant beleive that i was there last year!!! gutted that i could not attend this years tattoo, shame cuz i missed top secret the best drum corps in the world !!!!! Definatly going again every year!!!! probably the best live performance show that i have been to,,, its the way the drums and the other instruments sound!!! i will advise any who can go, go!!!!!!

  • Jeez, I've got to go to one of these events, it must sound amazing in person.

  • Definitely worth the trip - even from the US

  • @scoutquinn You don't need to travel to Scotland to see this. The annual Nova Scotia Tattoo has the same thing.

  • @bluenoserr Nova Scotia! I would call that a taster compared to this, you can't get better than the Edinburgh military tattoo, the best of the best are there and its in the capital of Scotland home of the pipes ;).nothing can compare .

  • @Aettaro I attended the Tatoo in 1983 when we were stationed in Germany (USAF). It was an experience of a lifetime. If you ever get the chance to go, do it. Also, Edinburgh is a fantastic city and the Scots are the best.

  • @Aettaro Several years ago at the Celtic Celebration in Reno, NV there was a massed pipe and drums performance (311 pipers and 100 drummers). I never understood the word "volume" until I experienced that! It wasn't loud so much as utterly immersive and soul-stirring. It was astounding! I had a cassette of the music in my car stereo when another car pulled up beside me at a stop light, ugly, stupid rap music shaking my windows. I turned on the massed pipes and they rolled up all their windows!

  • @gombodog I should try that sometime...=)

  • amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • man, ............

take a brake, ok, not gonna bother thinking any more of you, I could go into some rage or something mode, but I won`t... wast time and thoughts.. had that things on this Internet shit for so long, that I decided to ignore any further...

  • Why don't you post your FUCKING home address dick and you'll find out what the Scots can do to you.

  • where you drunk or smokin when you write that? I'm Scots surely the Irish are our cultural closet allies.

  • Scotland needs to continue fight for independence.

  • you'd be a third world country if it was'nt for the english

  • There are no third world countries in Western Europe, you ignorant moron. And, Scotland needs to continue to fight for independence from the tyrannt Britain. Scotland DOES NOT need Britain.

  • ya, I wonder where England (and the rest of the World would be without the Scots). Ya, just like how the Irish failed when they formed their own Republic. A better economy and quality of life than they ever would have had under the Crown. Nice try....I guess we'll see after the referendum in 2010....

  • Awesome!

  • i love the pipes

  • Wow, "MraAatoon" thats a nice PREJUDICE remark friend! everyone is allowed to enjoy the tattoo, and people come from all over the world to see it, although I hope trolls like you don't show up....

  • I'm English and I couldn't agree more. I usually consider myself British however, for the union and all.

  • wHERE THE HELL ARE YOU COMING FROM.THE ENGLISH IRISH AND EVERYONE LOVES THIS,AND IF YOUR BRITISH THIS IS YOUR HERITAGE JUST AS MUCH AS TOWER BRIDGE OR GIANTS CAUSEWAY.

  • I can't believe I missed this by two days when I was in Edinburgh. Oh well, I guess I can use it as an excuse to go back, right?

  • This has to be experienced live. No video or tv can pick up the might of the mass of pipers. I was there 1999. I still have gooseskin just by seeing this video.

  • where is this?

  • Edinburgh, Scotland

  • It's in our beloved Edinburgh, Scotland

  • well i'm going out on a limb here...but i would the edinburgh tattoo would be in edinburgh hahaha....just giving you shit buddy lol

  • ya dinnae squeeze it, ya greet bugger, ya bite its tail... were ye nae watching?

  • sounds higher up than that to me -like between it's legs!

  • does anyone know the name of the slow march?

  • El Alemein

  • next year we will be there ,great

  • I was at at the 2003 Tattoo when the Blackwatch came in led by Brian Alexander, they were in their combat dress just home from Iraq, there was a few gaps in the ranks, a sorry sight, but they came into a heroes welcome, the hairs all over my body were poker straight. The senior pipe major of the british army then did a rendition of 'sleep dearie, sleep' from the castle battlements, he was Blackwatch, check that out. The massed PnD are awesome.

  • is this like a marching band concert only with pipes and drums

  • I have sat in the same stand at the Tattoo, well, a bit nearer the front, and the sound as the massed pipes and drums swells towards you down the castle esplanade is fabulous and overwhelming. Thanks for reminding me of that special occasion!

  • Being a Scot myself I think the only thing that would have got me off those beaches on D-Day would have been the sound of the bagpipes!

  • Missed it last year :(

  • I like these pipes n drums, I was there at 2008 and it was more so amazing!

  • Very good. Can't beat the pipes and drums!!!

As for "here we are and we are comming to get you!", that's one reason the brits lost the Battle of New Orleans. The noise gave the advancing regiments' positions away in the fog, plus the Rodriguez Canal and USA entrenhments blocked there way and the USA Arty. played havoc in the advancing ranks of foes. Some Americans cried at the slaughter.

  • bit out of date really 100 yrs or so just imagine fighting the british and hearing the pipes "here we are and we are comming to get you!"

    very scarey

  • Truely brilliant... send the pipes to Helmand!

  • Makes the hairs on the back of the neck stand up!!

  • imagine fighting the scots...

  • I Wouldnt Be Able too, I Would be entranced by their music :)

  • Many have tried...and died in the attempt! They were called "The ladies from hell" by the Germans in WW1

  • Many have tried...and died in the attempt. In WW1, the Germans dubbed them "The ladies from Hell" because of their kilts...and their ferocity.

  • Or the Devils in skirts;)

  • GORGEOUS!
