Hi, I think it could be a "Freshwater" Moray Eel. When they are small they will live in fresh water but don`t like it. After around 6 months (if you are lucky) they stop eating and fade away unless a lot of salt is added to your aquarium. Pet shops rip people off selling these exotic pets to ignorant customers. Well done for getting your money back.

My mom didnt know any better and Cleaned the out side of the tank with Windex and some kind of orange cleaner. Not only was it a glass tank, but I didnt have the lid on it, b/c it was being ordered.Sooo... The chemicals made both of my fish really sick. >_< She was an amazing animal, so was my Oscar.

Its sad seeing a beloved pet die, even a fish. My angelfish passed away peacefully after liveing for six years, had it sence it was a baby, but I got another one just like it. Its not the same, personality wise, but it still gives me good memories of the joy my old pet gave me.
people! dont say things like no hiding places or watever!. he just lost his fire eel. and sometimes pets are great companions! and they can give you memories for the rest of you life!. so be nice to this person that lost their beloved pet!!!!!!!.

I can understand that, I had a fish that lived for 10 years (I had it since I was 8), it took me almost a year to find another fish like him, but consider yourself lucky the only thing I have to remember of my fish is one picture, thats it. Dude I spent two semesters in collage in marine biology and and learned all about fish anatomy, fish have can long lasting memory, including aquarium fish, in fact most aquarium fish can reconise their masters after owning them for several days, and fish, like all animals, have feelings, and can communicate, yes they have differnt ways of communication, but its still a living creature with a body and a soul. I educated myself, and have pet fish, you obiously know nothing, whos the dumbass now?
@thesinfulpriest so very true I want to study Ichthyology when I go into college. my jack dempsey cichlid is very intelligent and knows how to express himself. when he gets really irritated he turns black when he is mad he is red and when he is relaxed he exhibits normal colors. he refuses to jump out of the water and grab food when my friend is with me so I asked my friend to hide and sure enough he ate. cichlids even have reasoning to know that if a beats be then b beats c then a will beat c.
I didnt have a gravel filter in my tank. That is just a bubble wand. They are really good for eels , gives them oxygen. As for my Oscar.. he hated it. I would always wake up in the morning and it would be broken apart. LOL. My Oscar had something similar to HITH . My Eel... that is still a mystery. I put all my fish into a 120 gal. A week later they all got sick... I have no idea what happened. He lived about 3 weeks at the store after that. So, I cant help you there.

I had a tire track eel I called "Hide" (it was fitting), who REALLY loved earthworms. I stupidly fed him ten nightcrawlers, and, that was the end of him. I should have known he was in trouble on the seventh worm. I look of panic seemed to be in his eyes as he struggled to get the thing down. I was a kid at the time who didn't know fish have no cut-off when it comes to food.

I dont know why the people at the store told you you would get a burning sensation 0.o. That is kinda odd really. I used to tuch pyros skin and never encountered a burning sesation. I probably hurt him. b/c he does not have scales to protect him. just skin. :O( But no you will be fine. I do not recomend doing it a lot tho. for the safety of your eel mmk :O)
hey, i just bought my fire eel. he is about 9" but i plan on keepin him a long time, and he is goin great in my tank but the staff at the store told me something interesting. They said that its called a fire eel also because if u touch it you will feel a burning sensation. Ive been searching on the internet and theres nothing on this. so i was wondering if u have ever touched your eel on the body and what happened if ne thing?

Hey.. sorry for your loss. I know how upsetting it can be to lose a fire eel. I had 2. One died of TB (I received him from a friend that couldnt keep a clean tank). I love them. they are like little puppies when it comes to feeding/playing with them. You can check out my video if you want to see more fire eels :)

My mom didnt know any better and cleaned the tank with some orange cleaner when I was out of town :'O( . They all got sick. My O is doing ermm ok I guess. But not so good. My hearts broken. I just dont want them to suffer.

No, its a fire eel. They are not an eel at all really, their relitives where eels and they look like an eel but they are actualy a freshwater fish.
May I ask why it died? Sure was a good looking fire eel!
Moray eels look more like a snake and nothing close to a fire eel! Aslo, a Moray would not make it 6 months in fresh water, no way at all.

My next complaint is how unnatural and hideous the tank looks... LoL
I know people say fire eels up root plants but 1st of all your probably doesn't cuz you have boulders for substrate and you can pot them.
Some wood caves or rock caves would look a lot nicer than some hideous pipes. Sorry qtpie... you may be pretty but your tank is not.
