  • Dam dis iz da shizznit gotdammit! Watch out der now!

  • Jam!

  • Jeffrey I'll allways be a big fan of yours. And this is definitley my favorite song of all the ones I've heard from you. You were truly one of the best out there for sure.......And this song took me to higher state of mind..... The arrangments and production are first class and your performance is on the money........

  • This is the jam.

  • This song is so real...U really don't need a light to see through some folks.JO layed it down with this jam...

  • yes what a great song

  • How can one song bring you back to one particular moment in time to the point you almost can feel and smell it. WOW ! Great memories back then. I guess we were free then, or atleast felt it.

  • Duke wasn't messing around on this production. Thanks for posting.

  • This song shows how transparent some women really are.

  • And he still looks good to be 62...just saw him in Philly... great concert and I got to take a photo with him. luv ya Jeffrey.

  • This is one of the few George Duke-produced R&B tunes I really like. Vocals and music are flawless on this track. Archetypical Eighties Soul...

  • I forgot just how good this song is! I was 17 back in the day when this song was brand new. I first heard it on "American Top 40" on the radio. "Keep your feet on the ground & keep reaching for the stars"...lol.

  • thanks for allowing me to link my video with yours.

  • I wore this song out back in '82. Telling someone that I can see right through you...

Is it time for a reMix?

  • this choon is BAD (as in good :)

  • Brilliant.

  • @LadyJML

This song is life........once one kinda understands................I really don't need no light 2see through u.........I really don't need

  • soul singers of the 70s and early 80s were growlers. Teddy / Marvin / james brown / alex o neil and others Jeffrey was as well, but more smooth, like Kashief or Freddie Jackson

  • I haven't heard this jam in a minute! See young folks, THIS IS REAL ASS MUSIC RIGHT HERE, NOT THAT LIL' WAYNE, RIHANNA OR THAT NICKI MINAJ CRAP!

  • YALL AINT READY!!

  • This was so my guy and so my song back in the day. Oddly enough, I had a crush on Jeffrey. Maybe it was his beautiful delivery of a song and his quiet, dignified personality. And that group LTD. They don't come like that anymore, do they?! :D

  • @boomerang905 I know what-cha mean...I STILL have a crush on this man!!! LOL!!! J.O. fine to the bone! Peace.

  • @vm24seven365 Okay? I looked back at him and realized it was those lips......sometimes we never know exactly what it is but to me, he is so cute! And he could sing. Love Ballad had me and my sister going... Hollah. Thanks for the reply : )

  • when relationship is hard and cold, at this point just let go . I don't need a light to see though u. Thanks jeffrey You really don't need no light.

  • I love this song Detroit, mi. all day.

  • SIMPLY!Mr. Jeffery Osborne!!!!! looking forward to the L.T.D reunion!

  • this dude jam hard back in the days.the 80's was the best when talking music.so many artist blossomed in the 80's and the music soung way better than the music out these days.

  • Truth!

  • I don't give a shit what anybody says about the 80's, that decade gave us some really good R&B, contemporary adult, smooth jazz and REAL singers/artist: Jeffrey Osbourne Regina Bell Kashif Sade Lionel Richie Anita Baker Patti Austin James Ingram Roberta Flack Pebo Bryson Vanessa Williams Melissa Morgan Cherelle Alexander O'neal Luther Vandross (RIP)
  • @MrJuly1990ish Absoulty correct the I'm from the 80's-90's generation the quality of music of this era is totally garbage and alot of the artists today when it comes to R&B is a total fraud.

  • Man ...can this dude sing. This is his best and most under rated song ever!

  • Now , he's a SINGER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • LTD with Jeffrey Osborne - SHINE ON

    J. Osborne left LTD then:

Jeffrey Osborne - I Really Don't Need No Light

    makes sense.

  • This was my jam!! Check how my man holds that note at the end.. owe hooooooooooooooooooooooooo...really don't need, I realy don't need no light, no light to s

  • What Jeffery is saying, see when you are in love your blind. Now he can see,so you can't run that game on him any longer.I really don't need no light,to see through you! I love his music, with his sexy voice, sing on Jeffery!

  • Can you upload "My Heart Can Wait Forever" from the "Love Songs" Album? Also please upload "Share My Love"?

  • this came on this morning on my way to class. had me jamming! <3 Good music right hereeeee

  • i really love this song ,it has a message in jus listen to the words

  • i love this song. And listen to it over and over but i really dont know what he talking about.

  • @CreoleGuh504 He's really saying that he doesn't need this particular woman to define him, plus he's checking her ass saying she's so conceited she doesn't know she has a good thing

  • @victornewman06 wow what a mess thanks for explaining

  • @CreoleGuh504 No problem, sista! Check a brotha's favorites and let me know what you think?

  • @victornewman06 exactly....sounds like he's discovered what kind of person she really is.....and knows she's not deserving of the kind of man he is, and what he has to offer.....I recently experienced this situation....hit's close to home....my favorite JO song

  • @victornewman06 I thought he as saying something like that. The reason I love this song. I know that's right.

  • @CreoleGuh504 ...I guess you really do need a light to see this one huh?...lol...Oooo...K...let me try to shed some LIGHT here,...He's basically saying that once a pun a time at the start of their relationship, everything was all peaches and cream like and then it went sour when she started being unfaithful, hence him seeing though her fakery and although he loved her it was time to get out of it !....

    LIGHT WAS GIVEN

  • @bklynboi69 alright got it thanks. I play this song all the time and my mom just sit there and stare at me. Now i know not to play it anymore. Thanks !

  • @CreoleGuh504 I believe he is talking about a women who isnt what she was cracked up to be, but now he knows and sees through all of her shinanagins(spelling).

  • @4realrenee ah i see what u mean :-)

  • Comment removed

  • @CreoleGuh504She was trying to say it wasn't her fault. so he asks "who is this lone arranger, how did he get to you?The other people in the party(group) what did they "make you do?" "Now you're so full of schemes (tricks) I see right through you like a silk screen.Lies & alibis won't work. Now he knows what kind of person she is. He's saying it's so obvious what kind of person you are I can see it with my eyes closed or even in the dark.I really don't need no light to see through your fakeness.

  • yall know this is a jam.

  • The song lyrics are so deep and sooo very true and real!

  • I'm pretty sure Louis Johnson (of the Brothers Johnson) was playing bass on this track. Sounds like his style anyway.

  • @meljr He is! :-)

  • @meljr abraham labrioel

  • @taylor4660: I have the LP. Louis Johnson DID play bass on this song. Abraham Laboriel played bass on "On the Wings of Love" and "Congratulations". Louis played bass on most of the songs on the album; except for the two songs mentioned and "Baby", on which Larry Graham played bass.

  • he is comint ot PHILLY 11/12/10

  • I have not heard this for a while, what a TUNE!

  • @afrocentriclady Great song indeed huh? What a great sound of lyrics.

  • Jeffery Osborne stands the test of time.

  • From a era that will never be the same musically. BLISS

  • i love youtube and all the funky people here.... cheers from Switzerland

  • Talk about double negatives! Jeffrey's really saying he needs light.

j/k I know what he really means.

  • What a Kool song. George Duke produce this yall.

  • AWWWW Jefrrey...My 15yr old daughter just walked in and said.. "Oh I have that on my MP3 player"... said so casually... YEAH.. yall have only CRAP to listen to....Thats my girl... JEFFREY U ROCK FOREVER.... I WISH U COULD COME THIS WAY... I WOULD PAY UP TO $100 TO SEE YOU PERFORM UR HITS.....

  • This was the song for me on the dance floor with my man in the early 80's.

I think I flowed on the floor with this one. I sure felt good that for sure

  • 1982, different times, different artists, different music, different world, BETTER LIFE, take that rap CRAP !!!

  • Where is he? I love his music!

  • @Blessbebe One of the soundtracks of my youth. One of my favorite cats in the game... Jeff was cold... pure vocal genius.

  • yoo off rip , this is my uncle , i put it on my lifee

  • @alexisxdiaz Jeffrey Osborne is your uncle?

  • GOOSEBUMPS!!

  • @kimbo2726 omgosh I have loved JO for so many years!!!! I am so thrilled he is coming to BB Kings in Manhattan in September!!!!!! I have never seen him live!!!!!

  • El mejor soul/funk hecho en USA...

  • lovin this song

  • Hit #3 soul, #39 pop in Billboard. God bless!

  • Love Jeffrey xoxoxox !!!! From Buffalo New York.

  • My kids gave me Jeffrey Osborne greatest hits CD for my B-day... now they can get the computer back...lol. Jeffrey, Philly is patienly waiting for YOU!. Pleaseeeee bless us with your presence this summer...it would certainly be a highlight.

  • Great song, Miss artist like him, today's singers sound like they are hollering instead of singing.

  • Wonderful Voice and Foine!

  • go jeffrey, sang baby.

  • I was pretty young WHEN THIS CAME OUT but remember this like yesterday....I always loved this, in fact i used to imagine me being J.O on this TRACK...!!!!

  • Oh, Yes! The bass and the guitar is on POINT!

  • Jeffrey's 1st solo hit, cowritten by 'Hawk' Wolinski of Rufus. Peaked at #39 pop.

  • Yeah, This is my jam!!! Really don't need no light to see through you!

  • Now this is music...back in these days you had to actually know "how to sing" before you get a record deal. God only knows how much I loved the 80s!

  • Great Jeffrey Osborne! He One Of The Best Soul Male Vocalist!!

  • A legend in a class all by himself. Love his music, true artist. It just makes you feel so good & wish you were back in the 80's again...

  • I've always LOVED this song. I remember so well seeing Jeffrey Osborne perform this song on "Soul Train" back in the spring of 1982. JEFFREY OSBORNE WAS THE REAL DEAL.

  • simplesmente a musica mais bonita do anos 80 valeuuuuuuuu..

  • Even the musical arrangements back then were MUCH different, (and in my opinion, better). The producers wanted to produce ART, not just create "one hit wonders".

You can hear REAL drums, and a real harp is being used. Amazing.

  • AMEN!!!! You hear that bass and the guitar?? Somebody help me... I just LOVE GOOD MUSIC!!!

  • @Shareeberrie well said....

  • Remember, folks. This was back in the days before AUTO-TONE. Today's big artists a rappers, not SINGERS, and because of technology, special effects, and "media spin", they don't have to be great vocalists anymore.

With few exceptions, there aren't very many male singers currently on today's scene who can sing anywhere near this well (certainly not unplugged, or "a capella", for that matter.)

No question, Jeffery Osborne can BRING IT. He can SING.

  • @Visionary0001 .... Shux my CDs are right here in my house and ride... aint going no where.... Check out PLANE LOVE....by JEFFREY OSBOURNE too...

  • @Visionary0001 Man, we have an excellent singer where I come from - old school quality - but when Jeffery Osbourne came to town, he sounded like a boy ! ( they sang together onstage)......his power, his delivery of the EXACTLY correct notes, his relaxation. He has been my favourite adult male vocalist since 1977.

  • @Visionary0001 I'm 27 so I will say what you're saying is true.

  • This is singing

  • Now here some lyrics!!!!

  • My uncle reincarnated.....My man. Love this song

  • Love this man. He's a real singer. I wish he toured more.

  • George Duke on the production..I believe

  • @taxigroovenyc YES HE IS

  • Well I like it!

  • one of the best radio tunes of the 80's..classic

  • This is the way music was back then,I'd take the old school instead of today's useless crap and garbage. Thanks victor.

  • uSELESS CRAP lol tHIS IS THE JAM

I Really Don't Need No Light

I Really Don't Need No LightI

Really Don't Need No Light TO SEE THOUGHT YOUUUUU

YOU ARE RIGHT THE MUSIC IS GARBAGE

  • The man's phrasing is superb!

  • I love this song!!

  • One great male vocalist.deejaygrl

  • Circa spring 1982 chart maker. Good guitar work.

  • one of my mentors. what power sang boy

  • Just discovered this great tune after hearing it on an old audio tape - had no idea who it was but figured it sounded like J.O. Great voice.

  • I love this song, it help me break-up with a ex... lol!

  • i think will smith used some samples from here

  • no. it was 'he's the greatest dancer' by sister sledge.

  • I remember in high school this girl wrote me a "breaking up with you" Letter and in the letter she said "I really don't need no light to see through you!"

    LOL!!!!

  • Im in love with Jeffrey's voice, great singer

  • A Gifted singer hands down.

  • yo not for nothing but I think him leaving ltd was the best move he made. he obviously carried the group plus hes making more money instead of sharing with the other 10 members of the group.

  • umm i think the lyric story means that he dont kneed a light to see through his ex-woman, cause she is so transparent..lol

  • I didn't even know I knew any of his songs.Come to find out I know all of them. lol

  • This brings backs childhood memories of my parents card parties and BBQ's.

  • wicked tune

  • Am i wrong if i say this song's beat is a slowed down version of 'sister sledge - he's the greatest dancer's beat ?

  • Sorry, but you're wrong here. This is a great song. Does'nt even come close to the greatest dancer beat.

  • I agree. This has much more of a west coast vibe (i.e. Maze, Brothers Johnson), than the stuff Nile Rodgers did.

  • Amen

  • He's a great all around musician

  • I have it somewhere in here LOL. Sorry I was so late to respond. Thanks for listening :)

  • I totally agree!I've been saying this for years, that he was right up there with Luther! The man has the most agile, soulful,& supple voice in the biz. He's Chaka's male doppleganger!

  • Well said Tyja :)

  • i love this song

this 1982 solo debut album is good.

  • I got you homie! Holla @ me.

This is one of my favorite tracks he's ever done.

  • I forgot about how nice of a cut this is

  • one of the best R and B songs ever, this song is a beast.

  • круто, блядь! это круто! почти кончаю...

  • I believe 1982.

  • THATS RIGHT I WAS ... 4

  • 1982

  • I remember first hearing this song on radio station KDIA 1310am out of Oakland, California, when I was in the Navy stationed at the Naval Air Station in Alameda, California on the USS Kansas City (AOR 3)1981-83.

  • This is why I think YouTube is among the best web sites ever created! Thanks to YouTube, I get to here this kick-ass Jeffrey Osborne song I haven't heard since the mid-1980s!

  • Jeffrey! One of Providence, R.I. finest! I grew up in Providence and Jeffrey and LTD were HUGE there. I grew up 1 block from his sister and her family. His nephew was one of my best friends when we were kids.

  • Well here I am ....another "old School" person ....I wore this album OUT...and saw him in concert with his opening act ....Whitney Houston hahaha....yes indeed. No one knew who she was back then...

  • SHE DID SESSIONS FOR MATERIAL BACK THEN (A FUNK,r&b TYPE GROUP)...HER SESSIONS HELPED HER OUT...YEAH, BACK THEN SHE WAS JUST ASESSION SINGER).

  • Agree on the "good ol'days" issue. But you don't have to be that old school to understand the importance of music like this and all those other soul/funk gems. I'm just 26, picked the sound of funk and soul up on some famous soul/disco related radioshows here in the Netherlands (especially the "Soulshow", up and running since 1972!), when I was about 12. Then I discovered my parents' record collection, well....my love for soul and funk was born :)

  • Love this song, great times. I'd love to hear Shine On.

  • Cool song!

  • You know it LOL. Some of today's R&B is as ignorant and shitty as this mainstream rap that's out. That's all I go buy now when I'm at the record store.

  • I wish I could find the Soul Train performance of this song, it was great!! I love this song!

  • They aired it back in August, I don't know if it will be aired again. I love those classic Soul Train episodes!!!!

  • I heard that Jeffrey Osborne didn't release any videos from his first album, meaning no video for this, but I'd like to confirm that (live performances, I would'nt count). I never seen his videos for "Don't You Get So Mad" and "Plane Love" - from his second album - and I did'nt see those on the tube yet!

  • I had a performance from Jeffery Osborne saved as one of my favorites. I haven't checked yet to see if they deleted it, but the concert was from a couple of years ago where he performs this song and "Don't you Get so Mad" He kind of combined them in one song.

  • THAT'S THE JAM!!!! Thanks for posting that. This is coming from a 27 going on 28 year old guy who appreciates MUSIC!!

  • No problem. I remember visiting my aunt in Chicago and she had this on vinyl. I was 8 at the time and I remember loving this cause it was so mellow. Doesn't matter how old you are, if you appreciate REAL R&B, then you know what's up. Square Biz!!!!!

  • Really?? That's great!! I was around in 1982 but I was just a baby back then.

  • I'm sure when you were a toddler, there was a song your folks played and you just had to dance your little heart out LOL. Ask someone older that grew up around you, they'll tell you. :)

  • Actually there WERE a few songs I used to hear on the radio:

    Our Love's in Jeopardy

    Gonna Take a Miracle

Get Down On It - Kool & The Gang

    Mama Used To Say

    I Can't Go For That - Hall & Oates

  • That's cool. I bet you can listen to this before you can listen to this garbage out nowadays. Real music, not sampled down garbage with a touch of wackness.

  • I don't blame you!! Although SOME of the music out there is pretty good. But THIS!!!! This was music!! I grew up with some of the best hits of the 80s AND 90s!! I also like 60s and 70s music too!!

  • Thats nuthin'! I'm nearly 24 and old school R&B is my savior!

  • DAMN!!!!! You could be my new best friend!!! LOL LOL!!!
