Auto-tune's not singing. I'm sure it's cool to use but I hate hearing it in every fucking song on the radio. Don't people sing anymore? People don't even write their own songs anymore, they sample something, put a beat behind it, some atrocious lyrics that don't mean shit and call it their song. The worst part is people eat it up like it's fucking gold. Music across the board's lost its luster and originality. I say, burn your radios and fuck the music industry.

Loop mixing (which is what many artists do) is an art of its own. It takes some technical skill along with musical. You can't just throw any two sounds/loops together and get something decent. A lot of them you can, but not all. And you still have to know the format of songs.

I think its fair to say many modern artists aren't really singers, but they are musicians none the less. Music is all about taking an instrument and making something of it. Thats what they do with computers.

Secondly, depending on the software used, they are technically writing the music. For example fruity loops allows you to pick the sound on the specific beat up to 16th notes. If you're going to write a piano riff for example, you still need to have a basic knowledge of chords.

it is a freestyle. The harmonies are done with another autotune track set with a set of notes in a different key. When you sing at the same time it harmonizes in realtime.
