I never knew how the continue system worked. I just pushed buttons like crazy during the Game Over screen and always got a continue. This and Mega Man 2 were the best NES games ever.

The game is a sequel to Commando. You're rescuing Super Joe from the first game and you name is Nathan "Rad" Spencer. Some of the history is told in the latest version of Bionic Commando on 360 and PS3.

The only way of knowing for sure is asking the people who named him directly, but I think 'Rad' Spencer makes more sense for a guy who wears sunglasses while fighting nazis with a big robotic arm, and has a buddy called 'Super' Joe.

I don't really understand why some people say Bionic Commando is the sequel to the NES game Commando. I mean sure they're both made by Capcom and they both have Commando in the title, but they're totally different games. Commando is an overhead view Ikari Warriors-ish game, whereas Bionic Commando is a Side-scrolling platform game. (then again Legend of Zelda and Zelda II:The Adventures of Link were kind of the same way)

Due the censorship of Nintendo America they change swastikas for eagles or albatross and Hitler for Master-D from the Japanesse game. But the censorship kept the exploding face because it wasn´t that violent jeje.

It's a pretty well known fact (among game collectors) that the best-selling console is NOT the most-powerful console:

ATARI - not as good as intellivision

NES - not as powerful as SMS or Atari7800

SNES - well, there's always an exception to every rule ;-)

PS1 - not as powerful or "clean" as N64 graphics

PS2 - not as powerful as the Xbox or Cube

Wii - not as powerful as X360 or PS3

You are correct, the most powerful-console is not the best selling. Its the sheer number of game titles that sell the system, For every ONE game that N64 was producing ,PS1 was up by at least 10games per month. Same with PS2 vs Cube, I would say Xbox almost had as many games as PS2, maybe less memorable titles though. No argument, just my observation!

On re-armed the new Master is reborn as an old man with one of those hospital masks on his face and he flies a combat helicopter. You have to use guided missiles to hit the front window twice, then finally the juice mortal kombat/gears of war style head explosion happens... three times.
