  • Hi, yes I did learn the tune from Vidar. My fiddle was made in 2004. Men er du Norsk? Bor du i Setesdal?

  • Nice! Did you learn that tune from Vidar? I don't know anyone else who plays it. Cool beans with the Håkedal fiddle, I have 2 of them myself :) How old is yours?

Look forward to more fiddle videos!

  • fleire som speler/spelte "gamle sordølen" i ymse former. Otto Furholt var ein av dei.

  • I'm impressed. I can't even do that in 40 degree (above zero) weather!

    Peace,

    Patti

  • Hi Patti, thanks for the kind words!

  • Amazing performance! The Bashkors must have really appreciated the concert considering how cold it was. The concert hall was incredibly packed!

  • PS In the beginning the announcer says - "this was a folk melody hat is played when a bride and groom are walking to the church." I am assuming it was some type of a bridal march.

  • Hi Inna, the beginning of the video was actually taken from a different part of the concert and it was pasted onto the part where I played this tune. It was put together like that to make it more concise for YouTube and also to show viewers the audience. The tune on the video was actually not a bridal march (I played that earlier in the concert) but a gangar.

  • Yes, I got that. The announcer referred to a tune that you played before the gangar or before this segment was pasted. I have yet to figure out how to splice videos together - what program do you use?

  • I have to admit that a friend helped me with it. I think he just did it on a program that comes on his Mac.

  • Very cool. Glad the Russians are getting some exposure to the hardanger fiddle. What did they think of the instrument? I always wonder if there are any Russian hardanger fiddle players in Russia, are there? Hey if you want anything translated, email me.

  • Hi! violinists in Russia were interested in the instrument and I let them play it when I had the chance. (I played in the Bashkirian Folk Instrument Philharmonic Orchestra while I was living there.) That was a wonderful experience. In general people were interested in the Hardanger fiddle but at some of the concerts that I played people asked me to play American fiddle tunes because they had heard more of that.
