Gosh thanks for telling me the ending people...haven't seen it yet, but I'm always up for seeing movies showing the Rez...not many movies are made about Navajo peeps. All the movies I see are usually about the Sioux or Pawnee, and each tribe is so different.
Perhaps the acting was not that great, however the message was very clear! Grandma's rule!!! I miss my granny very much and appreciate all she taught me about life.
When I saw this movie...I think the directing could have been much better. And a change of background music would have made it more...native. haha and etc. But the grandma ruled! She made me laugh, and she did great in this movie. ^^
I personally liked it. I agree, some of the acting was a bit.. odd, but like it was said earlier, if you grew up navajo, then you can understand some of the subtle humor, which I enjoyed. But if it were shown to a city-grown person, it wouldn't be very appealing, unfortunately.
very unrealistic movie...couldn't even watch it whole...shame cuz it had that something, but actors totally suck, except grandmother i think she rocks...everybody else can't act to save their lives...and what about that ipod and some sick SLR,amazing car-wtf.
this movie is so lame! natasha johnson did a horrible job (she doesn't even look navajo) when she was running she should of been wearing an ipod touch, just like she had an apple computer (i doubt she could afford that) and her cannon camera (this movie is unbelievable) except for the dance @ the chapter house.
The gal whos playing the character "turqouise rose" has NO ACTING TALENT, they shouldve had more auditions for the part. Her acting was very, very disappointing
I think you have to be Navajo to get some of the jokes and subtle humor. It's a fun movie but you have to be able to get past the campy acting to enjoy it.
I went a movie sneak of dark knight in gallup nm and it was hella funny cuz the lead chick in this movie was there and some drunk stood up in the beginning of the movie getn excited and telling the audience she was turquoise rose
hey well i have to say this MOVIE is friggin AWESOME!!i watched it at first and it was funny but then after watchin it i understood. u know where she picks up tht old man.. well thts my grandpas turn off to his house and the old lady tht crosses the road wit her sheep.dats my grandma.whoo hoo go grandma.Well i wish i fully understood navajo but i dont i guess u can say im an apple.red on the outside but white on the inside.Hey can anyone teach me.i wanna learn but my mom wont teach me
oh the grandma was so cute "it cost $, pay me 1st" during the pitures so cute. the grandma is my cousins girlfriends grandma so technically i'm a relative to her cool and shes still alive but i want to meet her so bad
I watched this in my Anger Management Class...(Yes natives hav anger) but the theme was "reconnecting with our culture night" and boy did this movie make me realize how much I miss my own shii-ma...by the way movie was touching and very inspiring...
Still haven't seen this. Haven't been to the video store in a very long time. Looks interesting. Better than nothing and its cool that a White man wasn't in complete control in making this movie. The character would have probably been some half breed looking for acceptance from his/ her tribe. Anyways Blue Gap Boyz looks interesting too.
Turquoise Rose is a must see, this is possibly the best native American film to date, great story, great camera work, great editing, fantastic acting and the sound track is just awesome.
The story is a coming of age story and the film is a coming of age film for the Native American filmmakers. What is next ?
That movie is probably true in some ways of the rez but today most natives are white washed cause most of them don't know their old ways of life all the natives need to go back to their roots and pick up the old ways that they were told many years ago right now we live in a white mans world but when the day of purification comes how will you survive?
How are they white washed? Don't many people change when they come into contact with others or get exposed to different ideas etc? How is a Native supposed to be in 2008?
I've gotta see this movie for my SCC post-production class. Apparently one of the guys who made it is an alumni. I can't wait. This movie looks deep. Thank ANNA!!!
i remember helping at the harkin's theatre's in phoenix. I had such a great time there lol although it was really hot in that rug dress and my feet hurt lol...but it was really a kick ass movie lol
The Phoenix premiere was amazing! Two showing at the Harkin theatre in one night and both were sold out i think! Never seen so many Natives in a theatre!
Don't blame the actors. They are our native people struggling to make a difference in their lives and in our tribes.
