  • Into the garbage chute flyboy. . . and don't forget boo boo kitty.

  • hm bin ein luder

  • She was so cute in American Graffiti.

  • Before she was in "Laverne and Shirley"

  • That would've made a nice Bob and Laurie reunion, from American Graffiti. I think Penny Marshall was in love with Cindy Williams, she did arrange a couple small kissing, or "lips conveniently touching", scenes with her on Laverne and Shirley. But Cindy was straight and married, so Penny settled for Carrie Fisher, who kind of looked like Cindy. Penny and Carrie lived together for years, I don't know if they still do, but I know they did.

  • She was so cute in AG.

  • Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher were horrible actors, that's why their acting careers never took off despite the enormous success of the trilogy. Surrounded by robots, spaceships, Harrison Ford, Peter Cushing, Alec Guinness, Darth Vader, etc...it apparently didn't matter who played the roles, but put Mark and Carrie as leads in other films it became obvious they couldn't act.

  • Shirley you can't be serious.

  • @joedits1 - Totally serious, and don't call me Shirley.

  • so did she get the part of leia?

  • Very good intepretation of the role.

  • Wow. Who's the wife beater she's auditioning with?

  • *Slaps herself a bunch of times* Director: "Oookay...."

  • Cindy Williams is more battelstar galactica royalty than starwars

  • Cindy doesn't have the air of royalty like Carrie has.

  • All they needed to do was have a slave bikini contest to see who will be leia.

  • I've always thought that Joseph Campbell was a little overly generous in calling Lucas his best student.

  • "We must deliver the plans in this Artoo Unit safely to the Shotz Brewery."

  • @Aeolis7 Would that make R2D2 and C3PO Lenny and Squiggy?

  • Alderaan was located in the Schlemiel system, in the Schlimazel sector.

  • @RobTFirefly Hilariouos comment!

  • @RobTFirefly thank you for your comment hahahha it made my day

  • Carrie Fisher was the better choice, but Cindy Williams did a lot better than I would have expected.

  • did she get the part

  • @dogpile69 Yes

  • Wow, she was so wooden in this audition.

  • It's obvious why she didn't get the role...

  • Comment removed

  • It's Not Coruscant It's ALDERAAN!

  • Who is reading Han's lines? George Bush Sr?

  • @Howiedoin77 believe it or not, its frederic forrest....there is another clip of him

  • Thank LUCAS for just keeping that for audition footage. Oh my...... oh my..... oh my..... It's Shirley reading some Star Wars Lines. Like you said American Graffiti GREAT and Laverne & Shirley FLAWLESS but Yikes I wouldn't have wanted this to surface. Great entertainment folks. Star Wars would have Tanked!

  • who the hell was han?? LOL!

  • I think Cindy williams ended up on her feet.

She became one of Hollywoods biggest

stars. I'm sure she has no regrets and Laverne and Shirley would never have

    had the success it did.

  • they couldnt pick her cuz laverne would have nagged them to get in too

  • who was Han here? LOL

  • She would've rocked the metal bikini in my opinion!

  • wow she was horrible

  • Shirley would have replied, "You can just fly your magic rocketship to the Smut Star."

  • Wow. I've been watching these auditions and it seems like everyone who was finally cast actually had a worse audition than the ones who weren't. It seems like this means either that Lucas got lucky, or he saw something into the future. Either way it shows just how difficult the casting process can be.

  • You guys are full of it... Her audition was actually better than Carrie's and don't get me wrong I'm glad they didn't go with Cindy but she did well.

  • @p3rrypm I agree Cindy's audition was better then Carries, but Carrie was the better choice for the part.

  • Just imagine both of these actors playing the parts: "The Rebel Alliance" takes on a whole new meaning!

  • she should have slept with george lucas like the rest of the cast.

  • Cindy and Shirley? Laverne and Shirley. She also did American graffitti which was lucas' vehicle.

  • I only know her work from Cindy and Shirley so I was surprised to see how well she did. Carrie Fisher had that glow and bearing though. So glad they chose her.

  • Her hair looks like a helmet.

  • I'm thinking of "Shirley" in the gold slave girl costume. I think I need to see a counselor now!

  • @rmcdaniel423 Oh GOD NO

definitley not good NO SHIRLEY FEENEY IN A SLAVE BIKINI PLEASE

  • I wonder if he had any parts considered for Charles Martin Smith, since he seemed to be auditioning some of his American Graffiti cast.

  • thank god for fate....she was horrible

  • The one auditioning with Cindy sounds like Frederic Forrest.

  • Who is reading for Han Solo? Larry The Cable Guy?

  • NAAAAAAHHHH

  • Hey, Lucas should have used her. Lenny and Squiggy could have played Han and Luke.

  • @OHLeeRedux That would have been SO funny!

  • Who's the guy reading with her?? The voice sounds very familiar.

  • This is amazing. I think she would have made a good princess leia. In the end, they probably did better going with unknowns.

  • They should have cast Cindy Williams as R2D2 and Penny Marshall as C3PO, and Lenny and Squiggy as Hans and Luke. Now that would have been a movie!!!!!

  • She's so cute!

  • wow she was terrible. but how do u read dialogue like this convincingly?

  • Notice how George said, "Okay..." after she slapped her face? lol

  • I love Cindy Williams, but I agree that Carrie Fisher was better for Leia. However, I think that Cindy Williams is a very underrated actress and that she deserved to get many more major roles than she did. =)

  • she made me feel like i was at a boring business meeting..Carrie made it more convincing

  • imagine we could have had her in the bikini during Return of the Jedi.

  • WHY was she slapping her face? NEXT!!!!

  • I find it so hard to take this seriously, because I'm seeing Shirley Feeny saying those things. LOL

  • it just doesnt sound like she's into the scene. she talks like it's a joke or something.

  • Her delivery just was too lax.

  • Is it just me, or does it look like Cindy has on her Shotz Brewery smock

  • looks like she was almost laughing through that audition. she wouldn't have been right for the role. carrie did a much better job with the acting.

  • Comment removed

  • whos reading with her? I know that voice

  • @foxnewsSuxx

Of course you know that voice...that's Frederick Forrest! I think I might've spelled his name wrong, but I KNOW that voice, and a friend of mine once photographed him for a book. That's HIM!

  • @jfulbright you are right! If you search the other auditions you can find a clip of Frederic giving his take and you clearly hear Cindy answering as Leia.

  • I'd vo-dee-oh-do-do this Leia.

  • I thought Fisher was awful in that role. I don't think Williams would have been any better though.

  • mmmmm frederic forrest.

    god that dialogue is impossible.

  • I think sexy young Cindy would have done just as good a job as Carrie Fischer. Why didn't they take a REAL chance & put Carol Channing in the role??? She would have KICKED ASS !!!

  • I adore Cindy Williams in American Graffiti and as Shirley, but Carrie Fisher definately was the better choice to play Leia.

Leia is young, which Cindy could play with abandon. But Leia is also a princess and must speak with authority, which Carrie could do more convincingly.

  • @Holdenon3 I agree

  • @Holdenon3 carrie fisher is actually younger which is weird

  • SO terrible compared to Carrie Fisher and harrison ford. After watching videos of other actors, I believe Mark, Harrison and Carrie are the reason these movies are so special, they brought the movies to life.

  • She is hot!

  • Cindy Williams as Princess Leia? Williams sounds like some crabby brewery worker. :-D

  • She has no charisma whatsoever....

  • Who the hell is Han solo in this scene?? lol he sounds like a drunk old man LOL

  • that has gotta be frederic forrest

  • The films wouldn't have been as good with Cindy in it.

  • The actress Cindy Williams did NOT write an article claiming military personnel were overpaid. The writer of said article had the name Cindy WIlliams, but she was NOT Cindy "Laverne and Shirley" Williams. That is a fact. Look it up.

  • I like American Graffitti better than Star Wars anyways,Im glad Cindy was in that instead and

I liked her in The Conversation,Cindy went on to huge success and fame on tv as we all know,so I think she did more than fine without Star Wars!!

  • Love that Dorothy Hamil haircut. Who the fuck is reading with her (some grumpy old man!) Does anyone know?

  • Cindy Williams was too sweet for Princess Leia, who was a hard-assed character. I didn't think Carrie Fisher was that great in the role, except she did have a hard edge to her. Princess Leia is called "beautiful" and Carrie Fisher was never that. At best, her looks were average.

  • Saying Carrie Fisher is average is a compliment to average girls all over the world. She was perfectly cast; just enough of an edge and just enough of a smart-ass. She's hardly "average".

  • I never much cared for her, either as an actor or a writer. I'm tired of her tales about how it was SO awful to be the daughter of Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher. She's just another spoiled Hollywood brat.

  • she looked great in the first film, her age began to show in the sequels... but she was well beyond average in the first

  • Her age began to show in the sequels?!?!?!?! She was *27* when ROTJ was released. That means for filming she was most likely 26, possibly 25. What age do you think she looked?!?!?!?

  • whose age began to show in the sequels? You can't talk about Cindy Williams, because she didn't show up in any Star Wars Movie.

If you talk about Carrie Fisher who played Leia. She was 21 when Star Wars was made.

  • wow, I am so glad she didn't make it. Her talents best suited bad (but good) seventies sitcoms :D

  • I like Cindy Williams but Carrie Fisher was obviously the better choice.

  • she sounds piss and carrie sounded sweet and sexy and you know

  • sounds like's really hard for her to say those lines.

  • greeeeeeat!!

  • The guy reading Han Solo's lines sounds very familiar. Does anyone know who he is?

  • Sounds to me like Frederic Forrest (he played Chef in Apocalypse Now).

  • you are correct.....they also starred together in the 74' flick......the conversation, francis ford coppola

  • Shes not bad, Star wars is a bit overrated I'm Glad Cindy starred in George Lucase's other better classic "American Graffitti"atleast there was no muppets etc in that plus Cindy was awsome in the "the conversation" and went on to one of the most historical sitcoms of all time Laverne and Shirley,Cindy Williams did just fine with out Star wars!!

  • She is REALLY bad. Too spunky and hyper and an irritating, scratchy voice!

  • Hmmm...as much as I like Cindy Williams, Carrie Fisher was a better choice...

  • Um, no. She's not good, she's not Leia.

  • I remember reading that Cindy wanted this role badly, but I thought she was simply not appropriate for the role, and this audition confirms my opinion.

  • she did pretty good.

  • I had no idea Cindy auditioned for this! LOL

  • Mmm...Shirley in a Princess Leia slave outfit. Maybe Laverne could wear one, too, with an L on it.

  • lol can u imagine what Star Wars would have been like if Cindy Williams was Leia, Robbie Benson was Luke and Kurt Russel was Han? :P

  • There's a word for it. Wait lemme think...oh yeah...HEAVEN!

  • Wow, that's Frederick Forrest reading with Cindy!

  • Cindy is a pretty good actress, but this is one audition she would prefer to forget.

  • Wow this is dreadful.

  • you are wrong, carrie fisher has teh perfect face for princess leia, with enough courage and no just a pretty face, leia its like that

  • so close to becoming an action figure and typecast for life...

  • She just basically yells her lines. Carrie Fisher delivers hers with honey and subtle force. I feel like Cindy Williams is having a snippy fight with another beautician in a beauty parlor in the Bronx.

  • *head down on keyboard.... LMFAO!!!* Great observation. She always sounds like Shirley no matter what she does.

  • No she doesn't. I wish people would stop putting her in just one character.

  • I don't think she was yelling her lines. I actually would have been interested in Star Wars IF Cindy got the role.

  • Let's face it, she wouldn't even pass the Turing Test with this audition.

  • Well she was just really starting out so I wouldn't say it's the best audition she probably ever did but it's not that terrible.

  • damn, who writes this crap

  • Is that Penny Marshall badgering her...or "Valley Girl"'s dad?

  • Frederic Forrest from Apocalypse Now. He's a great actor but the wrong Han Solo.

  • Thanks for this. Good post. He's also "Valley Girl"'s dad. "Don't ever get out of the boat, unless yer daughter's being wooed by a punk Nicholas Cage, and he's got mangoes."

  • I might wonder what Cindy's beauty would have added to sci-fi--if Amanda Tapping hadn't taken part of Cindy's place in my heart. Carrie Fisher, in my humble opinion, is nothing like her mother--whom Cindy reportedly cites as a strong influence. But then, that wasn't the type Mr. Lucas's second masterpiece needed. I watched AMERICAN GRAFFITI on TV solely because of my growing affection for Cindy.

  • take it easy stalker, your scaring the children...

  • The way she says R2 is worse than the way she says data

  • She just sucks balls. I'm from NY, it has nothing to do with that. She FAILS.

  • These two jokers sound like they're from freakin' New York! They are not Star Trek-caliber material!

Also, she pronounces the word "data" incorrectly. Anyone who's a techie NEVER pronounces the word data the way she does. It's "DAY-tah".

  • 1) I'm from NY, thanks for the insult.

    2) No idea what accent she has, and the guy sounds southern.

    3) You can pronounce data both ways.

    4) You're a douchebag.

  • ya! fight the power! im from NY also!:)

  • @dukeofcrydee and 5) it's Star Wars, not Star Trek.

  • @andybobnolen Wow, I was so annoyed at the rest I missed the obvious! :)

  • God, did she miss the point of the whole enterprise or what? Also, I agree with Drake that the actor opposite her sounds a lot like Frederic Forrest. A great actor, but he's NOT Han Solo.

  • does anyone know where to get information about auditions for the star wars tv series?

  • The guy reading with her sounds like a young Frederic Forrest to me.

  • Was this the actor who was in a dreadful sitcom called laverne and Shirley many years ago??? I think the other one must have got the part of Chewie.

  • No, you're mistaken. This is the actress who was in the CLASSIC sitcom called Laverne & Shirley, which gave us the amazing comedy duo of Lenny & Squiggy. "Hellooo!" ;)

  • Not as hot as Carrie.

  • The guy reading as Han sounds like future director Laurence Kasdan who was a writer on the series but that is a guess

  • Who's reading for Han? He sounds awful!

Cindy Williams is horrible as Leia.

  • Okay who's the guy reading for Han anyway

  • One of the reasons she didn't get the part was because she kept calling R2 "Little R2"

  • If Lucas cast anyone other then Carrie, Mark, and Harrison as the Trio Star Wars wouldn't have been as good as it was, the fact he also rewrote the script didn't hurt either

  • she didn't have the spunk Carrie Fisher brought to the role

  • Cindy Williams actually would have been much better for the part!!!she was much more versatile than Carrie Fisher, with both her comdey skills and her dramatic skills. But was never much of a Star wars fan always though it was a bit overrated, its ok if youre 12 yrs old!I thought George Lucases best work was American Graffitti much more depth better acting, writing etc.

  • Very nice, I think Cindy would have been good too. Carrie was great of course.

  • Cindy Williams as Princess Leia? I don't think so! Williams was deffiantly a beauty, but she had too much of that small town girl quality to have that role!

  • That was a pretty good audition! Too bad she didn't get the part... but Carrie was better for it I think...
