  • This song reminds me of how I felt when I first set foot on my mothers homeland! I was an American soldier in the infantry. It was like my MacGregor spririts gathered to greet me! I could smell the wild heather sweet and strong that night. I picked a guardian thistle and smelt it. I could have sworn I heard men singing me a highland lullibie as I boarded the plane to Iraq! Moran Tank!

  • Haste Ye Back soldier boy.God bless you.Safe home.Come back to Scotland. Her heart and people are waitng for you.

  • I've never been there yet, but I believe New Zealand's a bigger version of Scotland. I'll cry like a bairn when I get there to photograph it.

  • How glorious!!!

  • Runrig is a great band, and this is a great song. :-)

I love both, Scots and the Gaelic language, and I have started to learn both, though I am a wee german lass. Thanks to Runrig and Donnie Munro and other scottish artists for doing so much for the gaelic language! Moran taing!

  • Love this song. It reminds me so much of my grandparents who died a few years ago now.

    Saor Alba!

  • Tha mise uabhasach brònach nach bi mòran daoine a' cleachdadh a' Ghàidhlig a-nis -- is àithne dhomh mòran Ghàidheil nach eil facal sam bith aca anns a' Ghàidhlig. Tha sinn ann an Canada a' feuchainn ri Gàidhlig ionnsachadh agus a bhruidhinn a-rithist.

  • Tha mi an dochas gun teid ma dhuibh. 'S e Gaidhlig cànan a tha sonraichte ri eachdraidh na Gaidhelaich air feadh an t-saoghal agus 's e droch rud a bhitheadh ann ma sguireadh sinn a bhidh ga bruidhinn.

    Beannachdan

  • i learnt gaelic in school here in Aberdeen so there are still some places teaching it, more schools seem to be making it a language that you can learn. but it is quite sad that so many people and even highlanders dont speak gaelic.

  • My thanks xxx

  • Looks like some fine fishing to be had:]

  • Great video, thanks for posting it -- but, what, no Liathach or An Teallach...!?

Capercaillie would have been better, though.

  • Excellent video and song! It's a damming indictment of the UK education system under the various successive Westminster governments that I as a Scot cannot understand the language used in that song!

  • We actually stopped speaking Scots Gaelic in the lowlands during the 14th century for economics reasons,( trading with the English). We didn't pass the treaty of union until 1707. so we canny blame the English gits fur this!!!

  • Scots Gaelic was widespread in the 16th century and was still being spoken in many parts of the "Lowlands" right up until the 18th century. In Fife, parts of Ayrshire including Kyle, Carrick, Cunningham and in Dumfries and Galloway regions. Rumour has it that Margaret MacMurray the last Gaelic speaker in Carrick died in 1760.

  • I blame among a few culprits the Westminster funded and sanctioned education system; do you honestly believe that it was in their interests to further strengthen Scottish identity.

  • That's in the past. Gaelic survived (just) we should do our best to keep it alive. It used to be the language of the court and country and nowadays people get charged with contempt for saying "aye" instead of "yes".

  • Aye, I agree. I have heard folk chastising their kids for using the 'Scots' language. There is ignorance regarding the language and as I said I do not believe that it's accidental.

  • good vid, but can i just suggest that you change the title.

its actually an ubhal as airde.

might make it easier for folk looking for this song

  • Thank you rethcuet, consider it done.

  • @bigwallypants living in North West Australia......McLaren says a big than you for the upload ! ,,

  • Everytime runrig's on air you realize their music's a class of its own. One has to go to Scotland to breathe, touch and taste that country. Then maybe you'll understand the spiritual dimension of this band's music. Songs like this make this world a better place to be!

  • @tarrytown07 Every time I hear their music, i get transported back in time, when i travelled all around scotland for 1 month, its been the only holiday in my life, where i didn't want to go home to DK again!!!!

  • @vanefreja86 I think on the 7th day after God had created earth, he sat down looked around and though “ ... after we’ve finished what we came here to do, let’s create something really nice just for the sake of beauty”. He took what was left from rocks and waters created scotland, and sprinkled that land with the most gentle, peaceful and open hearted people I’ve met in my life. The only other place in the world where I have met people that live totally in peace with themselves and others is DK.

  • @tarrytown07 That is nice of you to say - somehow i did also feel strangely "at home" there...

  • @tarrytown07 And the angels said to God "Why have you given Scotland so many good things - the beautiful landscape, whisky, haggis, and all the wonderful people who are going to live there in the centuries to come?" And God said, "Well, I thought I owed them something. Have you seen their neighbours?" lol Just a joke folks.

  • Ace. *****

  • We have had our political differences and argued over them,Donnie. But in this place of self exile and on this day and every other day, I am thinking of somewhere else. For yourself and the music, I thank you. Tom.
