Nice video, but buggar being diplomatic about whether IE sucks or not. It's sucked forever and the sooner it's dead and buried the better.
Buggar also the features IE offers, they're more than offset by the innumerable security holes that regularly leave MS red-faced and, by the beards of the Internet Gods, the countless development hours lost because it doesn't conform to the w3 standards (Acid3 test anyone?)
IE's got marketshare because it's installed by default. Kill it today people.

Firefox dont recognize my servers with its flat name on the network while IE7.x and IE8.x can fastly open my intranet pages , dont know why and i dont care much , viva IE8 !!
Ian--great video! I just switched from IE8 to Firefox about 2 weeks ago and couldn't be happier. Why did I wait so long? (I'm 41 years old and have been using the Internet since 1996/1997). I have no idea...guess I was trapped in a "Microsoft-only" mentality (stupid now, I know!).
I also enjoyed your YouTube video for AdBlock Plus on FF (only 2 weeks using it and now I refuse to live w/o it!). Keep up the good work!
P.S. Love your accent! Very mellifluous and sounds great on mic.
This video is bull lol. They both have ups and downs. I personally like both. Firefox doesn't show myspace layouts and stuff the way that they actually are supposed to look. My layout and some other peoples layouts don't show up right and neither does the music players but Firefox is quicker. But with IE EVERYTHING works right just a tiny bit slower.
I don't wanna change by browser the one I have is perfectly fine. What does it mean ''modern browser''?!!! Mine probably isn't more than 2 years old, which isn't exactly ancient
i work for microsoft...and we have agreed that we have many improvements to make for ie8...but the crash rate is very low, and it has a decent speed. We still recommend the use of ie8
hey this video is biased. the guy in here is just talking about the downsides of the ie and not the good sides. you don't hear him talking abotu the bad sides of firefox..... totally biased. and if you remove this comment, that just proves that this video was biased. i want an equal fight.
yep, I'm biased - I rather laid that out at the start of the video. I'm a firefox fan and I'm not a fan of IE, I've lost too many years to pain with IE since 5.5.
in fairness - the video was (pretty much) accurate for the ie8beta but when ie8final was released, MS had fixed some of the omissions. that makes this video rather dated.
btw the only comments I delete are those that tend to use naughty words or say nasty things about other people. thick skinned, me.
Hey, after the 64 bit update, IE 8 is unusable, unless some one is happy with text based surfing. You tube doesn't work, as flash is not compatible with 64 bit browser and even Microsoft Silverlight doesn't work, as I have to watch netflix on other browsers. Basically, the updated IE 8 is not good for anything but text-based surfing...and it is almost impossible to go back to IE8 32bit or IE 7...I have Windows 7...and man, all the programs run so much slower with Windows 7 even with 4G ram.
Internet 8 sucks, internet 7 is better so how bout u compare those 2. To me firefox is my regular browsing, but i havnt figured out how to make a home page?any help there?
I dont know whats wrong with your IE8, mine tells me every subpage and info on what it was about just like your firefox, think you guys just need to learn how to customize your browsers.
bwzamie configure Firefox Options "Warn me when closing multiple tabs" & also set in about:config "browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes" to 0 & that's it :)
As many of you may stick to firefox, I'll always be with IE.
I tried firefox for a bit. The entire time it would crash every 5 minutes, and it wouldn't even restore my tabs, even when I checked the option in the options menu.
@bwzamie I just switched to Firefox about 2 weeks ago and it has not crashed on me once...conversely, IE8 crashed on me at LEAST once a day for the past year. (FYI I'm using a Dell desktop with Intel Core2 Duo running @ 2.2 GHz and 2GB of RAM).
firefox as all kind of cool stuff you can download and add to your firefox so you make firefox personally like exampel many have installed adblock that make you able to block commercials and such things
I'm doing very well with internet explorer, I actually seem to do the worse with firefox out of everything else I've used. It takes longer to open, and longer to open pages with, or without the about:config commands. Following IE8, are google chrome and opera, in my oppinion.
Awesome video I am a Firefox user it is more user friendly than IE also more secure since I have been using Firefox I have had no problems with Malware spyware ect...with including the add on "NoScript" I have been on a mission to get friends and family to switch over to Firefox for a more secure web browsing experience, but a lot of people are afraid of change also not aware of Internet Explorer's vulnerabilities!
You can get a virus on any browser. However IE is more exploited. FF has more secure addons unlike IE. FF is faster than IE, easier to use and freely modded. IE8 fails, good fight Microsoft but this new 'innovative' browser just steals from other browsers. Call that innovation, more like failure.
IE is fine with malware if you don't go visit sites that look like porn and stuff. Secondly, IE is the fastest depending on what type of computer you use so speed is an opinion.
ie6 was hideous, ie7 was a nice refresh, although somewhat tricky to get used to (after firefox. after using ie7 from ie6 its a pretty small learning curve). I havent tried ie8 but im liking ie more and more as microsoft takes its cues from the other browsers (opera, firefox, etc)
I tried getting a family member to switch browser.. She thought if I switched browser, you would switch the type of Internet to see. So she, and many, many others think Internet Explorer is THE INTERNET, and is therefore afraid to switch, because they cannot comprehend the idea of a browser.
You fail, rofl. Use something else, honestly if you think IE is better than Firefox you really are stupid. I do not care if you've used it all your life. Use FF for 1 hour and explore the addons capability. Hell half an hour with it on YT makes IE blow. This is one of those 'stupid' things if you use IE you either haven't used FF or you a IE fanboy.
You have no idea how IE is so vulnerable to attacks malware, Trojans, spyware, and ect...... Using 3rd party software other than Microsoft is always more secure I even use Mozilla's Thunderbird for my E-Mail needs vs Outlook Express or Vista's Windows Mail all the hackers in the world always try to corrupt Microsoft's software. Microsoft is a "marketing" company they don't give two shits about internet security or PC security it's common sense Firefox is free IE isn't you pay with Windows
In anywhere IE is not vulnerable If you were people who use IE would be infected. I check weekly for spyware and I have none even though I see many crazy websites somehow from this website and i've even been to a website that will hack your combuter but IE blocked it. I've even gotten to a porn website somehow idk that opened up lots spam and I was fine from malware idiot. Secondly, IE works fast and fine for most people so your computer must be mac or either a computer made 20 years ago.
Nope my pc wasn't made 20 years ago I have Xp Pro SP3 Running a .2.2ghz Pentium 4 Cpu 2 Gigs of Ram ATI 128MB graphics card. Plus No MAC here and A pc from 20 yrs ago won't load todays pages. I am sure I could find some type of spywear in your pc maybe you just aint looking in the right areas IE sucks you can use it if you wish to when my pc is running smoothly and you get a Rouge Anti Virus malware messing up your pc then you might consider something else.
it's been fixed also there is a neat little config feature in FF that IE don't have to tweak FF. FF is updated regularly IE isn't only once every couple years FF is updated at least every couple months.
IE 8 is faster, safer and more original than mozilla, just look only IE 8 and the google chrome have incognito window , and firefox in their new beta copy this.
Both sites claim to have some of the best internet speeds and security but I don't know which one is right. Internet speeds are similar for both but Opera opens quicker which is important because my computer is slow :( but it doesn't have many good add-ons.
Just to be clear - this video shows an early Beta of IE8, this video Does Not reflect the state of the final release of IE8 which has more features than the beta shown here. Just show you know.
Wrong again Firefox is a build trough of netscape, they did not copy a thing. While Microsoft is still copying from firefox, opera and now even from chrome.
Just one giant recommedation for every one who wants to browse fast and savely Get OPERA

jacek533 - thanks for the comment. I made this video using IE8 beta1, beta2 (just released) does indeed improve the nav bar...I guess I ought to consider making a new video.
re. 'protected mode' - I've not read particularly good things about it, as chris832 says it isn't all it is cracked up to be.
Personally I think that the Firefox team prioritise our safety far more than the MS team...
Rubbish I work in IT department I can see who is browsing what, Protected Mode is not what it says it is, I'm also a website admin I can still see you. I still recommend Firefox at this time better health for computer, your computer will love you for it.

Its kind of hard to update internet explorer with BigBrother programs monitoring our calls and activities. They slow down our computers.
Frankly with them on browsers and other funtions we dont get much of a option. So let the developers work with old tech.

:::IE8 Advantages (VISTA) over FireFox 3:::
1) "InPrivate" safe mode, this helped you maintain your online privacy and data.
2) IE8 uses lesser memory than Fire Fox 3
3) IE8 especially beta 1 has newer security updates
4)Smart Screen Filters, this checks a download for any malware or virus a Great Feature!
5) IE8 Has a feature that allows you to check the Publisher of the file you are downloading.
FireFox is over exaggerated!
