  • I was hoping to see the other Hollies, not Steve Van Zandt or anybody else. Regardless of if Terry Sylvester was dressed appropriately or not (and he wasn't), he was a member of the Hollies and an important one at that. This wasn't just about Allan Clarke or Graham Nash but all of the Hollies. Loved Allan Clarke's voice then and it wasn't that bad now. I really would have wanted to see all of them more than those not with the band.

  • Comment removed

  • @luvcorywells No, he didn't look bad.

  • Shut up, Pat! Let Mr. Clark sing for a minute.

  • this was a very awkward scene no doubt........--a real brutal situation also was when Creedence was inducted and the drummer and bass player were stiffed. What an awful moment that must have been for Clifford and Cook.

  • As someone who doesn't really know the history of the band, it does seem kind of dumb to get some random pop singer to sing one of the band's most famous songs when one of the actual singers is present. I guess band politics never die...

  • @headofwords Yeah the guy with the white hair and black tux is Allan Clarke, the original lead singer on the hits. Sadly, Allan's voice started going bad and he voluntarily had left the band due to family matters by 2000. I don't like these new pop singers either, but Allan will probably never be able to sing again. There have been miracles, singer Charley Pride re-gained his voice after a surgery and intense voice coaching around 2005-2006.

  • The Hollies have definitely been denied too long. Along with the Beatles they were one of the most consistent Top 10 bands of the 60s (with a couple #1s in the 70s as well). Ironically it was their version of the Beatles 'If I Needed Someone' that broke their spell. This incident w/Terry Sylvester is unfortunate given the momentous occasion this was for these lads from Manchester. They came a long, long way... Unfortunate also to see Bern Calvert's name on-screen for Bobby Haydock. Yea, Hollies.

  • Nice to see Sylvester made an effort to dress up for the occasion... also the parting shot in his speech about their ex manager who he thanked , when it was over this manager that Sylvester left the band in a huff back in 1981 ! The band had a vote to get change their manager and Sylvester wanted to keep the same guy. When the band members voted 3-2 to change the manager Sylvester and Bernie Calvert left the band rather than accept the decision...

  • @45rpmSINGLES That manager was also diagnosed with cancer and had to step down, so the guys needed a new manager and brought one in. There was no way the previous manager could stay on and work for them with his health the way it was. He retired to a nursing home in the Isle of Wight shortly afterwards. Bernie didn't leave because of that. The new manager didn't want him on the next album, and Bernie decided he had run his course with the group and wanted to move on to something else.

  • @sapphiretaurus Wasn't that horrible how Bernie was treated????

  • @45rpmSINGLES What good did it do them to change managers anyway?

  • But I can understand how hard it must've been to stand there & watch someone else sing one of the most popular songs from your tenure with the group. This is easily one of the most uncomfortable moments I've ever seen on a televised event such as this & I guess I'm going to have to do my homework & learn what was behind this situation. Somehow I don't think that the afterparty was very comfortable for any of them.

  • terry came off looking very bad here lol

  • All i know is when i hear the Hollies it brings back FANTASTIC memories. Thanks for the Music and memories Hollies

  • Love that Strat sound. Really makes LCW. And though I preferred Nash over Terry, I know I would be irritated if I replaced a guy in a band and if the band makes it to the rock hall, then I get denied singing a song that I played or sang back in the day.

  • They should have given Terry something to do--even if he had a mic or guitar that wasn't plugged in would have been easier to watch than this. It was embarrassing for all to watch him basically abandoned at 5:52

  • Wonderful to see the Hollies get into the Rock Hall where they belong. Great to see them have fun onstage.

  • He is only pointing the finger to say >>>>>>>>>>>> He;s Good

Don't take anything else from it

  • Terry should not have taken the mic like that . . . I believe if Terry would have asked before they sang if he could do a few bars it would have been no problem. However, when Allan saw what had happened, he knew it was wrong and corrected the situation. Allan Clarke still reigns as the leader of the Hollies.

  • Allan did what he should've. The guy from Train was supposed to sing this...how do you think he felt having the microphone snatched from his hand standing in front of all those people in the audience? Allan is a professional!

  • You can see the bond that Alan and Graham have! Thank God that they're on the stage together again! He is a class act!

  • Sylvester looks like a derelict who has wandered in and wants some attention.

  • Alan is a classy guy...they had a contract to let the lead singer of 'train" sing! He did what he thought was right! Terry stole the microphone from him!

  • Lets not beat around the bush out of sentiment, Allan's voice has gone he knows it and that is why he retired. Its nothing he can do about it, the years simply took its toll, heavens, even his talking voice has gone hoarse. Its a pleasure to see the boy's after all the years of adulation ,and to see them as "Old guy's". With the high mortality rate in the pop music business I personally am just so glad they are still here and will most certainly shed a tear when they are gone.

  • Allen should've given Terry the finger, but thats ok. When people get to these guys ages, they do indeed lose alot of their singing voice, singing power. you people putting Brian Wilson down, listen here, when you can accomplish all that he has accomplished then and only then can you talk smack about him. yes he is old, yes his voice isn't what it used to be, but who really cares? His music is magic and thats all that counts, you should be thankful he is taking the time to share his gifts.

  • @denniswilsonfan Thanks. I didn't like those comments about Dennis, either.

  • @denniswilsonfan look i am deeply sorry for my comments. i made a stupid comment (as we all do on the internet or otherwise.) and i am deeply sorry for it and if i could take it back i would in a heartbeat . i hope that you or any other beach boys fans on you tube can find it in your hearts to forgive me . and f.y.i as hard as it may possibly be for you to believe i actually am a huge beach boys fan and i know practically everything there is to know about them . but once again i am truly sorry .

  • @denniswilsonfan Right on! These awards are for an extraordinary body of work. It is an incredible thrill for any Hollies fan to see Allan and Graham up there together, vocal ability notwithstanding. The Terry thing was awkward, but it would take more than that to spoil such a terrific event. I don't think Allan made a rude gesture... as far as I can see he was just bringing the singer back in.

  • @denniswilsonfan hi dennis, saw your post. allan wasnt giving terry sylvester the finger. terry took the mike off the maroon 5 guy and allan was gesticulating? for him to give it back. Terry was denied, but he didnt help himself by being scruffy and half pissed (drunk) he also paraded his liverpool soocer shirt which also wasnt appropriate for the ocassion

  • 2:39- Billie Joe Armstrong?

  • @theplatinumrockstar1 And he knew the words! How cool is THAT?

  • Having seen the Hollies twice in the last 3 years I can say just how SUPERB they really are, Peter is great on stage & when they play "He Aint Heavy", it just sends the maddest shiver down my spine. I am 28, I grew up listening to thsi muic with my parents, - Ironically I now book and take them to these gigs. Great Work to ALL the Hollies, past and present!!

  • Tony should be here :(

  • and of course, Paul Schaffer is there rocking as usual.

  • Just my opinion but although I like Adam Levine and he has a very good voice, they should've just let Graham Nash sing his parts himself...he did very well indeed.

Also, in my opinion Brian Wilson doesn't sing like a wounded cat anymore...he can be quite effective when he wants to.

  • @christianphi He just wanted to be backup because his voice is gone

  • allan and graham look so smart in their suits and terry looks like hees just come from the pub,so sad as im a big terry sylvester fan, grahams voice still seems to be in good shape tho,as for allan seems like his voice has defo gone prob why theyre covering it up by letting others do the singing and having allans mic turned down, anyway in his day allan surely had the greatest voice in popular music !

  • Again I have to say this is such incredible footage. To see Allan and Graham together again on stage. I love it!!!!

  • @beegeespirits Allan didn't take the microphone from Terry. He told Terry to give it back to Pat Monahan, and Pat took it from him. Terry sang one verse. Allan rehearsed this song with Pat, and wanted the performance to proceed as planned. Terry is the only one who looked bad.

  • Allan Clarke is a God. Love him, love him, LOVE HIM.

  • @scunnered74 Graham Nash is an archangel of rock and a true friend. Allan Clarke is at least a legend, and if Graham's overjoyed for him then I am too.

  • did allan give terry the finger at 5:47

  • @christianphi He pointed to Terry with his index finger.

  • @christianphi He was pointing at him with his index finger.

  • @sapphiretaurus From what transpired immediately after he pointed, it's obvious that he was telling Terry to pass the mic back to Pat Monahan. Either way, that was one hell of an awkward moment & it makes me wonder how this situation came to this in a live setting. At least Terry got to sing a few lines of the song, but @ 5:03 you see him kinda nudge Pat away from Allan & whisper into his ear. You'll notice that the producers cut away from that shot & they must've knew what was up.

  • @christianphi No, he was pretty much telling him in so many words, "You weren't supposed to sing, you nudged Pat away from me & whispered to him to give you the mic. We let you sing for about 43 seconds longer than you were supposed to, so now pass the mic back to Pat Monahan!" It was obvious that both moments were rather awkward, Terry asking Pat for the mic, then Allen first gesturing for him to pass the mic, then taking it from him in the middle of a verse. Was this ever explained by anyone?

  • they did a great job....allans voice obviously has gone low---but i think he singing style was so intense that it woulda happened to anyone..40 yrs of lead singing that intensely will wear the vocal cords down..but i enjoyed the tunes a lot

  • Until this video, I never knew Allan Clarke played guitar - huh.... So great to see him having a good time -- it's clearly obvious that he and Graham have such great respect and brotherly love for each other after so many years of friendship. I should be so lucky. I'd give my left arm to meet Allan, even for a few minutes.

  • Allan and Graham, friends sense grade school...that in it self is great !!...would love to see a reunion of Allan, Graham, Tony, Terry, Bobby, Bernie and Michael...!!

  • @luvsmuzik1 Or at least of Graham, Allan, Tony, Bobby, and Bernie!

  • @dudley07726 P.S. Seeing these guys perform together again was mesmerizing for me and outruled any voice quality-issues, given the short amont of time they had to get ready.

  • @dudley07726 Graham's voice is still sound. Allan lost his voice ten years ago - because of drinking, smoking, and insisting on singing lead all the time instead of giving his voice a rest. That was why he stopped performing. Allan's mike is also on low, so you can't make out his voice with Graham's, Adam's, and Jesse's on top. For people who have not performed together in twenty-five years, they did a good job. Give them that much credit.

  • These guys graham and allan are legends-they should of been inducted years ago-nice to see the origins of the band, sound and music- as good as ever-like nothing had changed-from all those years ago-lets hope this is the start of some mini revival with tony and others joining in as well.-thanks for posting vrinda.

  • BRILLIANT... and thanks so much for sharing these videos with us Hollies fans! :o))

  • @beegeespirits Terry was not asked to sing. He chose to barge onto the stage. He was the one who behaved inappropriately.

Terry não foi convidada para cantar. Ele escolheu a barcaça para o palco. Ele foi o único que se comportou de forma inadequada.

  • THE HOLLIES!!!

    Finally!

  • anyone else notice terry wondering on to stage and stealing the mike from the guy from train and allan making him give it back hahaa

  • allan and nash seemed to steal center stage while terry and bern were pushed to the sides... wonder what the issue was

  • @alienhuman Allan and Graham were not stealing center stage. Graham planned this performance at the last minute, not knowing if Allan was going to sing or not. No one was pushed out so he and Allan could steal the spotlight. Just because certain band members did not perform, it doesn't mean there was any fighting or conspiracy going on.

  • @sapphiretaurus

Dear Vrinda, thank you for taking the time to write such detailed responses. Your knowledge and devotion to the Hollies is greatly appreciated, as are your video posts! x Linda.

  • @alienhuman Not so. Graham did very well under pressure, Allan's discovery that he could still sing was a welcome surprise, and Sylvester did not show up for rehearsals due to some misunderstanding which he took as a snub. He only ended up embarrassing himself. We will never know if either Eric or Bernie wanted to be up there with Graham and Allan.

  • Gee, Al's really rocking there!

  • @DeeDee1957

Oh my goodness... Allan's still got it!! And I still have a giant crush!!

  • Thank you so much for posting this. I was unable to get this channel that night as well. SO great seeing them all together here (most of them anyway)...especially Allan and Graham singing together.....miss Tony and Bobby though. Tony's my fav.

  • @DeborahParks100 At least Terry was also being honored. He wasn't intentionally snubbed. The performance was planned fast, and no one thought to ask him to sing. Bernie and Eric were not asked, either, but were not angry.

  • Still find it annoying how rap made it into the hall of fame before these guys

  • @BrickUnit They, (Don, Eric, Graham, Bernie, Michael, Allan and Terry) close to leave the band. What were Tony and Bobby to do? Either pack up or recruit new band members and 'keep the sound alive'.They chose the latter. Bravo!

  • Thanks so much for posting these!! Great to see Graham and Allan together again...

  • @kinksfan1956 No politics as usual. They were performing at the London Palladium, and could not get out of their contract with them. I'm sick of people reading too deep into this and thinking there is something more sinister going on.

  • @sapphiretaurus I noticed some morons kept giving my above post about why Tony and Bobby couldn't come the tumbs down. If you don't understand simple English or can't handle the truth, stay off this video and get lost.

  • Thanks again a million Vrinda!! As I've said elsewhere I was distraught when I found out our local cable station did not carry the channel that was to air the RHOF inductions! You totallly ROCK!!

Allan's still got that Rock n Roll GROWL in his voice! Love it!♥ Their performances even with some of the guys missing brings tears to these old eyes of mine. ♫

  • Great seing Allan & Graham on stage together!

  • And Terry! I thought he was not going to perform-until I got to 'Long Cool Woman"! Oh joy! :)

If Tony and Bobby were there-my joy would have been complete. ♥♥

  • Check out Rolling Stone Magazine's website: there's a video interview of Graham where he (rightly) praises Allan's singing on 'Long Cool Woman' at this performance, and Allan has since told Graham that he's given him his confidence & his life back! So I'm confident we'll be hearing more from Allan in the near future... : )

  • @peterdchecksfield I most sincerely hope so.

  • @peterdchecksfield I've yet to learn what happened (and when) to Alan' voice, but boy, it sure would be great to hear him sing again, in any capacity.

  • Where is tony?

  • @BrickUnit Apparantely Tony & Bobby were touring Britain at the time and couldn't change the dates (or so I was led to believe)

  • @somersetgal1 What do mean by "led to believe"?

  • @sapphiretaurus Only that someone who cam into my work the other day told me... sorry, that's all I know...don't even know if that is correct, that is why I said "led to believe:,,,

  • @somersetgal1 Tony and Bobby were performing at the London Palladium and could not get out of the engagement. They wanted to be there.

  • @sapphiretaurus Yes, I am sure they were very disappointed at not being able to be there... It was a great honour for them.. and these clips of the induction are wonderful.. congratulations on a great post

  • @somersetgal1 Thank you! We have a message board for Hollies fans. Would you like to join?

  • @sapphiretaurus Yes please...

  • @somersetgal1 Check your private messages!

  • touring... these are the old members only.

  • @alienhuman These are five of the members being inducted. Other than Tony and Bobby, the current members of the Hollies were not inducted.

  • @BrickUnit He was performing a brilliant concert, with Bobby and the rest of The Hollies, at the London Palladium. I was lucky enough to be there with my daughter Nancy. The Hollies rock!.

  • So? the hollies are present here, and the hollies are also in london? wtf

  • @BrickUnit You can't even get it into your head that the Hollies band is playing in London, and these men were also members and are the ones being inducted, so they are here. The members in the current lineup, other than Tony and Bobby were not being inducted.

  • This is fantastic, the music, the guys... Thank you SO MUCH for uploading this!!

  • Wonderful to see the two old masters singing together again.

How about a short 'Hollies; Living legends' tour, lads? The current excellent band would surely welcome these illustrious guests from the past.

  • I like it when Graham starts to sing his bit he almost forgets his words and Allan chips in to save the day :D

  • 2:32-2:38! <3

  • Nice one Vrinda. It was a wonderful night and fantastic to see Allan and Graham onstage together, and it sounded brilliant in the flesh!

  • @Greenp1g Thanks so much! If it was this spectacular to see them together on screen, I can only imagine how brilliant it was if you were physically there! You must be very proud of Allan, Graham, and the rest of the Hollies. I know I am!

  • Allan seems to get more & more confident throughout the performance & by the end seems to really be giving it his all (shame the other singer almost drowns him out in LCW, excellent though he is!).

I really really REALLY hope this will prompt Allan to make some sort of comeback. A duet album with Graham perhaps?

  • @peterdchecksfield If that happens, it will shoot to the top of the charts!

  • @peterdchecksfield A 'Hollies, Living Legends' world tour, perhaps?

  • @peterdchecksfield Excellent? No he wasn't. Nor was the guitarist. (Look at Graham's face when the guitarist was messing up during ' Long Cool Woman. I've seen that song performed live dozens of times by The Hollies, and never as badly as this. It was embarrassing). The (current) Hollies should have been playing. They would have impressed everyone with their great professionalism, singing, and musicianship..

  • @Jackophil The current Hollies were performing at the London Palladium and could not get out of that engagement. That is why Tony and Bobby could not come.

  • @Jackophil

Excellent considering (1) he left The Hollies because he couldn't sing anymore (2) he hadn't performed for 10 years (3) he didn't decide to sing until that day! If only he was miked a little louder though..

Forget Peter (the current Hollies singer); he might hit the notes better than Allan, but he's totally lacking his charisma & has a non-descript voice that could be anyone (unlike Carl Wayne or Mikail Rickfors for example, two other distinct former lead singers).

  • @peterdchecksfield It was great to see Clarkey in action again .Long may it continue. Roll on the 'Hollies Living Legends' tour.

Please don't be unkind about Peter Howarth, or the other more recent Hollies recruits. They are a very professional band who, as Graham Nash says, are 'keeping the sound alive'. Peter is not Allan Clarke; no-one could be, but he is a very good singer, he gives his all, he hits the notes, and the band have produced two very good recent studio albums of new material.

  • My son DVR'd this for me and when I got home he played it for me.I was PO'd for having missed it ,then I watched the boys on stage together and the smile on my face was priceless.I hugged my son in sheer joy and thanked him for taking care of his old dad by preserving this classic footage. This is any HOLLIES fans wildest dream and any of us that watch it must be grinning from ear to ear.

  • This is priceless footage. Love seeing Allan and Graham together again!

  • Go Nashie! Go Clarkie! What a treat!!!!

Thank you, Vrinda, so very much for all these.

  • Fantastic, Vrinda!! Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would see Allan singing again....my life is now complete. Bless their hearts. CONGRATULATIONS to them!!!!
