That's a nice truck though. I always like the C10 models plus you have the short bed. How much are you selling it for or how much did you sell it for?
My engine in my 63' isn't no where near stock at all and i have mine hooked up. How much hp your engine has? What's the duration and lift of your cam? It doesn't sound that big to me. I've heard big cams before and yours sounds like a mild cam.
Run a hose from your distributors vacuum advance to one of the smaller vacuum ports on the carburetor. The port on the carb shouldn't constantly be pulling air, but only when you rev the motor. Nice truck though. I wise I could take it off your hands.
@cgrobe21 I don't have any "open" vacuum ports on my carb, they are plugged. The vacuum port on the distributor doesn't need plugging. I could buy an adjustable vacuum advance kit, but just haven't felt the need.
All distributors have a centrifugal mechanical advance in them, but they all are mechanically limited in advancing in the power curve that's why you need a vacuum advance to further advance. Your total advance probably should be around 35 degrees at 3000 rpm's, but unless you're running a electronic computerized ignition or coil packs you need the vacuum advance hooked up. You have a HEI ignition. I'm not trying to stump you, I'm just trying to give some friendly help.
@cgrobe21 You're statement might be true for a stock engine w/ stock cam and EGR but that doesn't apply here. I have lighter springs on my centrifugal advance that gives my engine all the advance I need. If I had the vacuum advance hooked up, I would have detonation. At idle the with a larger cam the vacuum advance causes the idle to fluctuate. At wide open throttle the manifold has zero vacuum which causes the stock vacuum advance to retard timing.
@tsjkj Without catalytic converters I doubt this would pass smog in CA. I'm not sure what it takes to be smog legal in CA for older trucks. I've had older trucks pass in NV a few years ago, just a properly tuned carb and timing will usually be a green light as long as it doesn't burn oil.
@suttonracing Power packs are 283 ci heads . They are only really usable up to a 327 ci. Other than that they have small valves and chambers, All these old heads are really out of date compared to what you can buy out of the box from any performance head manufacturer new; AFR, Brodix, Dart, etc....
nice truck! sounds good too i just got my chevelle running has a bult 350 about like your with the same camshaft just got the exhuast hooked up and the top end tuned (valves and carb) im going to get a video tonight
Who ever put those mufflers on did a shitty job.

Just a quick mention. Your vacuum advance isn't hooked up.

@cgrobe21 The distributor has been converted internally to mechanical advance.
