I wrote the lower comment to say that I've tried patches and gum. They help my physical addiction to nicotine, but not the mental habit I've built over years and years of smoking with almost every activity I do.
Today I got my e-cig starter pack, I went with Green Smoke. So far so good, I don't feel the need to cough, but I still feel it a little bit when I inhale, which is what I want when I'm smoking an e-cig.
It's only been 1 day, but this seems to work so far. More than other options.
I've had my left lung partially collapse twice now (technically referred to as a Pneumothorax). I am tall and skinny, and my collapses were spontaneous. But I did smoke cigarettes, which probably helped contribute to this. The second time I underwent surgery where they took part of the upper lobe of my lung out, and it's now held together by staples while healing. (As I write this, I still have a tube in my side with a Heimlich valve for drainage.)
@allermann1 You're not even stating facts here. They are doctors saying that if you smoke cigarettes, this is a healthier alternative. Not only that, there are many logical reasons why this is healthier than tobacco.
They even say at the end that e-cigs are not recommended at all for non-smokers, as it still contains nicotine (which does cause health issues itself), but is a great idea for those of us already addicted to cigarettes to reduce the health risks.

@LecheSeason1: yeah I smoked 10-12 cigs per day so about 4 packs/week. I have a 2 piece e cig which means I dont refill it with liquid, i just change out the part that looks like the filter, called a cartomizer. They say each cartomizer lasts what 30 real cigs would but I think it's more like 20-25, and each cartomizer costs about $3. I paid about $7 per pack of real cigs where i live so I save over $4.00 per "pack" plus my health. My e cig has changed my life u should look into gettin one.

@AMANMETONAMETAKEN It's banned in Canada too, and I think it's bullshit. Even if there are some health risks, they aren't going to be anywhere near as bad as real cigarettes. But the government wants their tax money, so they're willing to have people die as a result.
I wish there were e-cigarettes for sale here in the Philippines. Some stores have some, but the brands are questionable, so are the packaging...and some of them are dirt-cheap (which makes you question their quality; but then again, real cigarettes here are dirt-cheap, too, less than $1.00 a pack).

That's the thing... I'm not even in Manila; I'm in Cebu. I've checked out all the malls in the city, & the only brands I see being sold are Health E-cigs & Holy Smokes. Health E-cigs are more common in cig stalls & online (and the price range from Php150 to 800, depending on the seller), while Holy Smokes has a dedicated stall in both Ayala & SM Cebu. Holy Smokes was created by a Filipino, I think. I'm not sure who made Health E-cigs, as I see that brand everywhere online.
Reason why I'd rather buy a unit from a stall or a physical retailer is because if it does break, I know where to go back for replacements/repairs/whatever. I know I shouldn't generalize online sellers, but I really just have trust issues. I almost never do any sort of transactions online, unless it's Amazon or something (in other words, I don't do transactions w/ individuals online, versus respected & established companies).

I checked out the VGO on Sulit. It's large... I want something that looks like an actual cigarette. My reason for this is I don't want to waste my money on something that my mind won't "buy" as a real cigarette. I'm so used to the act of smoking, the sight of a cigarette, etc. "Smoking" something that looks like a whistle, I think, won't help aid my quitting.

@Zhaquiri i understand. that's my first thought too. and yet i became an enthusiast. all my units are working you may think:) they're in bad condition bec i have 4. vgo is no longer than a pen. but the battery is as thick as pen that holds 2 ink carts. tried one of those the size of a cigarette but it does not produce that much vapor so i was less satisfied. there's one comment in another video he said it's like nothing.

@bg4tification Quitting cold turkey is not easy and often leads to weight gain. I've seen it in all the people I know who quit smoking with this method. The e-cigarette is a safer alternative to the cigarette. You could wean yourself off the dependence of nicotine by purchasing (or mixing) weaker doses of nicotine. @UnderManlac Quitting smoking isn't easy period. Cold turkey is proven to be the most successful method. Weaning yourself off could work, but I'm sure many will find themselves simply switching to an addiction to the e-cig. Even the zero nicotine ones can contain toxic agents that turn the liquid to a mist. Those who find themselves stuck on these e-cigs would be better just getting off the whole idea completely. There is also this wonderful thing called exercise to fix weight gain.

Yes Enhancethetruth they do make e-cigs without nicotine. I'm also convinced that FDA and Health Canada is corrupt, and refusing to legalize electronic cigarettes. It has helped me also quit smoking. @indycardvr1 : Please check out zigciggs website, he has studies of treatments that have/ and are being used in the medical fied. The most benifical treatments were for Pneumonia, and other upper respiratory problems. It will explain how it benefits these problems. Also, after 2 years my nicotine dosage has gone from 3 bottles of 36mg strength juice a month to 1 bottle of 12mg strength every 2 months. I really don't "need" it anymore. I just like it now.
That's pretty amazing for an addiction. I made no effort to decrease my usage. I just needed less and less over time.
I've been using an e-cig for 2 years now and I have to say I feel totally different when I smoke real cigarettes. I get tired, depressed, and have no energy when I cheat with an entire pack. It also tastes horrible. It really makes you wonder why you ever messed with them.
I could have quit for good by now but I have to admit my conviction is just not there. So it still requires the hard core commitment of quitting to stop entirely.

Just to let you all know, I got mine for $10.99 at a local gas station in Texas. It stays charged for around 24 hours, the more expensive ones stay charged for a week. Its a brilliant invention and I am planning on buying one and taking it to my grandmother who has been smoking her whole life. She lives in Illinois where they mite soon become illegal.

@allermann1 You're not even stating facts here. They are doctors saying that if you smoke cigarettes, this is a healthier alternative. Not only that, there are many logical reasons why this is healthier than tobacco.
They even say at the end that e-cigs are not recommended at all for non-smokers, as it still contains nicotine (which does cause health issues itself), but is a great idea for those of us already addicted to cigarettes to reduce the health risks.

Some look exactly like real cigs & small but batt need 2 be charged nightly. Some are huge & u can smoke forever b4 charging but don't feel like real cig. Some produce tons of vapor, some not. @LecheSeason1: yeah I smoked 10-12 cigs per day so about 4 packs/week. I have a 2 piece e cig which means I dont refill it with liquid, i just change out the part that looks like the filter, called a cartomizer. They say each cartomizer lasts what 30 real cigs would but I think it's more like 20-25, and each cartomizer costs about $3. I paid about $7 per pack of real cigs where i live so I save over $4.00 per "pack" plus my health. My e cig has changed my life u should look into gettin one.

Using an electric ciggarrette for half a month now. Havent even touched a regular one. Its brilliant....pretty much the future of smoking.

I wish there were e-cigarettes for sale here in the Philippines. Some stores have some, but the brands are questionable, so are the packaging...and some of them are dirt-cheap (which makes you question their quality; but then again, real cigarettes here are dirt-cheap, too, less than $1.00 a pack).

That's the thing... I'm not even in Manila; I'm in Cebu. I've checked out all the malls in the city, & the only brands I see being sold are Health E-cigs & Holy Smokes. Health E-cigs are more common in cig stalls & online (and the price range from Php150 to 800, depending on the seller), while Holy Smokes has a dedicated stall in both Ayala & SM Cebu. Holy Smokes was created by a Filipino, I think. I'm not sure who made Health E-cigs, as I see that brand everywhere online.

Reason why I'd rather buy a unit from a stall or a physical retailer is because if it does break, I know where to go back for replacements/repairs/whatever. I know I shouldn't generalize online sellers, but I really just have trust issues. I almost never do any sort of transactions online, unless it's Amazon or something (in other words, I don't do transactions w/ individuals online, versus respected & established companies).

My reason for this is I don't want to waste my money on something that my mind won't "buy" as a real cigarette. Weaning yourself off could work, but I'm sure many will find themselves simply switching to an addiction to the e-cig. actually non-smokers can smoke this stuff too you know......E-Blu offers it, you can order those kind of ciggarettes that all it is vapor with added flavor of cherry, coffee and other flavors....non-smokers can use this stuff if they order it without the nicotene....that way you can look cool as if you were smoking a cig, but no harm actually goes to your body

i proudly own an ecig and love it! it has greatly helped me from real cigs for over a week now. the only concern i have is, could this cause something like pneumonia because of the water vapor in your lungs?

@indycardvr1 : Please check out zigciggs website, he has studies of treatments that have/ and are being used in the medical fied. The most benifical treatments were for Pneumonia, and other upper respiratory problems. It will explain how it benefits these problems. The most telling research was for the treatment in a children's ward conducted over a 1 year time frame. If you have problems finding the site, hit me up.

I get no cigarette buzz from e-cigs and yet it satisfies my cravings. However, when I cheat with a cigarette I get so dizzy that I have to sit down -- as if I've never smoked before. In addition, I don't get this buzz with rolled tobacco. What's that all about?
These experiences have made me conclude that there are other things in cigarettes that are more intoxicating, and more addictive than nicotine.

Also, after 2 years my nicotine dosage has gone from 3 bottles of 36mg strength juice a month to 1 bottle of 12mg strength every 2 months. I really don't "need" it anymore. I just like it now.
That's pretty amazing for an addiction. I made no effort to decrease my usage. I just needed less and less over time.

I've been using an e-cig for 2 years now and I have to say I feel totally different when I smoke real cigarettes. I get tired, depressed, and have no energy when I cheat with an entire pack. It also tastes horrible. It really makes you wonder why you ever messed with them.
I could have quit for good by now but I have to admit my conviction is just not there. So it still requires the hard core commitment of quitting to stop entirely.

My mother just one of these and loves it. She hasn't had a cig for more than a week. She didn't think it was possible. And I don't have to smell that nasty second hand smoke. If the FDA bans this I WILL MOVE.

Just to let you all know, I got mine for $10.99 at a local gas station in Texas. It stays charged for around 24 hours, the more expensive ones stay charged for a week. Its a brilliant invention and I am planning on buying one and taking it to my grandmother who has been smoking her whole life. She lives in Illinois where they mite soon become illegal.

It's probably like an empty hit... just nicotene... People don't smoke "just" for nicotene... they also smoke for taste, which definetly can't be matched by this product, and the feeling of lung-expansion... which goes back to me saying "empty hit"...

@niddasa Alot of sites have newport flavors, but no matter what anybody tells you, it doesn't taste just like it. Very good though, and after a couple of days, you will think ciggs taste nasty. And you'll notice the smell of them, yuck!

Fact: FDA puts out a statement that e-cigs are unsafe because they have nicotine and carcigines..then what is a real cigarette?
Fact: New york is the first city to try to ban them and it is in a bill as we speak..is it because it would cut into state money and is a threat due to smokers not paying $11.00 a pack? BTW NY is the highest price paid for cigarettes
