Beware, in the 'wild' standing crystal clear water, like in a pond, with little or no fish should not be consumed. The water is likely full of salts of heavy metals such as arsnic.
Birds and reptiles carry Salmonella to roof and rain water, it should be Treated also!
Note: liquid bleach loses ~15% of it's strength per year so mark with date & stock rotation is important. If the bleach is 4 years old you would just double that dose and you're good.
"Standard" bleach is 5.25 to 6.0% Chlorine by weight.
Water in a clear bottle. (remove lables) Put the bottle in direct sunlight for 4 hours (minimum) and the UV light makes the water safe to drink. This is being used to save lives in africa.
Psssst, if this goes public then nobody will buy this stuff anymore. But i have an even more shocking news. When you capture rain in clear vessels you can drink it without risk - my girlfriends family in Thailand is doing this every rainy season.
I bought some bleach today for the purification of drinking water, but the bleach has a strength greater than the other bleach's on the shelves so I'm wondering if the drops per liter are the same?
it's Sodium Hypochlorite 42g/Liter,available chlorine 4.0%m/v at use by date.
Available chlorine 2.0%m/v,Sodium Hypochloride 9g/Liter.
So do I need to change the number of drops of bleach?or should I find a brand of bleach in my country with the same strength as 'Clorox'?.Thanks for posting too
technically a 1 micron filter is not good enough to remove all viruses and bacteria. It may remove some but not all. I'm guessing this is why he uses clorox or iodine to make sure.
You would need a .004 micron to be considered a purifier a 1 micron is simply a filter and rather large mostly for sediment removal.
Remember, boiling takes fuel. If you are low on fuel (wood, propane, etc.) boiling becomes less of an option.
Distilling also takes energy, unless you have a solar distiller. There are other options. This is one. And the filter that is used is very, very effective.
The buckets are made from food grade HDPE plastic--the same as used to store wheat.
Bleach/Chlorine makes dioxins when it reacts with stuff, water can be boiled... rest a few hours and boil again for a few minutes, not many bacteria left then.
Charcoal (ground up) can also help suck crap out of the water, including viruses and bacteria.
Charcoal doesnt SUCK crap out of the water. Most charcoal filters are just to help the taste of the water. Charcoal will not remove viruses or bacteria.
Charcoal provides a excellent breeding ground for bacteria and algae actually. There is a difference in filtering water and purifing water. Filtering isnt as good as purifing. To remove bacteria and viruses you must boil, chemically treat, uv treat, or have a very fine micron filter that will physically block viruses and bacteria for getting in
You are both right and wrong, the term "suck" reflects the ability of activated coal to absorb things, also harmful residues from "blown up" bacteriae etc. after boiling or use of agressive agents - that are in themselves harmful, or makes harmful residues. If I may.
Filtering and purifying is essentially the same; removal of pollutants.
Boiling or use of agents does not remove stuff, we are talking chemical changes, the water is still not "pure".
Monolithic domes has a product they sell that filters water and it is used routeinly over seas by missionaries it is listed in their store and it is reasonable priced you have to go to see it it is too much for me to describe. They are well educated and know their stuff just google dome home and they will always pop up. They are pioneers in disaster prepardness and world travel.
um one think how long the bleach would last maybe a couple of months then think of investing in some plumbing parts to make a water distiller its way more better for u and its the most purist water out there its so great that radiation cant even stay in the water and u dont have to buy stuff for it every single month so i might post a vid on how to do that but any way great vid
@SafeArmsReview Well, the people have to be careful, not the maker. it's the responsibility of the allergic person to look out for themselves. The world know nothing of them. For instance, iodine is used in the radiology department, we ask if you are allergic, and won't use it on you, but continue to use it for others who are not allergic. Iodine works very well, a classic water purifier. People who are allergic, shouldn't use it.
I have used a hunting filter small bottle caps on both ends] I have used to separate bier into water. Then of course either iodine tablets, juice, or bleach to decontaminate/sterilize. Pretty interesting video.
Made a mistake.... I realize that water would already be safe to drink. If I had tap water stored in a sealed drum, how many months would I have to wait before re-purifying it? Sorry for the confusion but I'm new to this.
by that time 50,000 people had died retard as you eat your steak for dinner, u think military let you take this long as they have this in 1950 lol, we can save lives but we wont and i see it because i care, my order to make them die no water as we blow up all resources for them to live for them why? horrible
bullshit, 2 fittings on a pump out from sea water, pump it in next filter , 2nd fiter into large tub treated and out as treated in process 500 gal a minute, all lies
Great video. Your viewers might appreciate my video titled "Sons of Liberty: Guerrilla Warfare Training." Being able to defend yourself and your loved ones will be key. Stay strong!
2-5 gallon buckets and some black Berkey filters are good to make a water filtration system also.
Just drill a hole in the bottom of 1 bucket and attach filter. Drill a hole in 1 lid and place it on the bucket without the hole in it. Stack them and fill top bucket with water. It will filter into bottom and the filters are good for a few thousand gallons. Keep in mind that bleach will reduce to salt water after a few months so storing it is difficult.
Really? I watched a video of water storage saying to add a teaspoon per liter and it would last a couple years but replace within a year to be on the safe side
Replace your Bleach every 6 months and you should be fine.
If the water is kept air tight and is not exposed to anything after it has been treated then it should be fine but I would still run it through a filter.
There is a kit offered by monolithic dome (in their market place section) that has a ceramic filter they make sense. They explain it better than I can but they are using the kit in 3 rd world nations now with great success. The kit sells for around $20.
I bought this kit as part of my own preparedness program. I'm expecting an economic depression to start sometime soon, maybe this year, so I'm getting ready. I live in a condo complex that has a natural spring right on the grounds. Right now it's just draining into the storm sewer system but if city water gets expensive or unavailable, my neighbors and I will be grateful to have it. This kit will make it drinkable. I posted 3 videos detailing my own preparedness efforts here on you tube.
An economic depression probably won't interrupt the municipal water supply, granted, but there are plenty of other disasters that can do exactly that. I'm mainly preparing for a depression but it can't hurt to throw a little preparation effort into other possible dangers as well. Water is so important that I decided to buy this kit, even if I won't need it in the situation that I'm expecting. You can't be too careful you know.
I AGREE with everything you said for I live in alaska and know of the importance of preparation. I just did not see where you were going in your comment earlier. Talk of a recession or being in a depression is on thte news but did not see the connection to our water supply being affected by it. I see your point and agree. It was a good video by the way and failed to mention it. thanks for commenting...

Prefiltering through cloth (shirt, bandana) might help the 1micron bag from getting clogged, I would think.
