At around 1:28 the video mentions recording external vocals or guitar solo. How is this done? Is the file kept as a vocal track with possible edits in the arrangement window, or do you need to use a sequencer to play the sample back? If I'm planning to record things like vocals or live instruments would I need to use Record 1.5 with Reason instead?
@macikosan Yes you would need Record to have audio tracks for things like live instruments. The two programs operate together as a software suite, with Record providing the features you'd want for live recording like audio tracks and the big pro mixer. Reason has all the instruments and synths you'd want for further production. If you have The Record Reason Duo then you can launch Record and all your Reason devices appear inside the one app. But yes, Record is what gives you audio tracks.
@PropellerheadSW Excuse an off topic question. I'm a huge huge fan of Reason, i own Reason 4 and I plan to buy Reason 5 and Duo. But Rebirth..... why don't you throw in the 303 synth in Reason? You already have an awesome produc, i own Rebirth, both as a smart-phone app and the original. But it can't compete with reason when it comes to create more advanced music and that's why the 303 is neded as a synth inside Reason.
I would gladly pay for that and i know I'm not alone about this wish :)
i have reaso 2.5 at that time i paid for it 400 euros now i have to pay for the upgrade?? not why could someone tell me if i can cat it free upgrade please
I have Logic, Reason & Live... It's a bit painful how I can't use them ALL at once. I mean, I'd *love* to use Reason as simply a series of plugins... It really annoys me having to load a song into it AS WELL as to load my main song up in my DAW (Logic or Live), but for that matter I find it irritating that I have to ReWire Live to Logic if I want to use them in Tandem, too... It's 2010... It'd be nice if I could use all the bits I really like from all the software I have. -sigh-
i have record...wouldve made much more sense to just be able to draw the blocks at the top and past them simply along the top bar.....why all the extra steps... stupid.
wow are you fuckin kiddin me, i thought "blocks" was ganna be like the fl studio sequencer, u have the choice of seing the notes, or just usin blocks, its so much easier to arrange a beat tht way, i hate reasons sequencer, thts why i use a mixer to arrange my music, its kinda like playin a live beat, its pretty kool, but ima just stick to reason 4, the new "bloclks" and the kong drum machine isnt worth payin 300 for somethin i already have, and why the hell is recycle there to buy?slicex is free
@MARQUEZbeats13 Just so your at least aware of the correct information... blocks is an optional added feature. If you don't like it you just don't use it. There's even a button to turn it on/off. The sequencer functions just like Reason 4 if you want it to. And the upgrade isn't 300. It's $129 and you don't only get blocks and kong. We've added live sampling, kong, blocks, Dr. Octorex, and a bunch of little things too. Take care.
@PropellerheadSW lol dont bother, the individual above had far so many slang words, improper spelling, and bad formative grammar issues that it took several rereads to follow what he was trying to say. Your product appears good, hopefully the price on buying 5 will drop a little more. I have NEVER mixed music before and had to do alot of research on music production technology to understand some of the theory behind these tools. Upon wtaching videos, the controls seem very intuitive. Cheers.
Can anyone answer me this? Has the new Reason 5 fixed the issue of samples being played.
For instance. I download an acapella in reason and I play it through to the chorus. I stop it and decide to play another instrument under the a capella, would I need to stop the track and start it all again or will the sample start from where i stopped it originally?
i dont care what anyone say, reason 5 will be %1000 better then fruity loops and %65 more efficient then logic on its worst day! dont get me wrong, i started with fruity back in '99 and used logic for 3 years but reason propeller head always had my music sounding clean and complex. cant wait till the release
i am a reason freak, and all i have ever asked for in the last 9 years was to have a track where we could record. Then Came Record, now if only they would let us import vst's then it would be the number one software out there, Fruity loops let you use vst's and i feel it is far more inferior than Reason. But it lets you play them killer VST's
Record and the new upgrades have me jazzed on Reason again. For those of us who have to produce quickly and efficiently, and not spend a lot of time programming and tweaking. And if I wanna go the Spock route, I can Rewire it into Sonar or Pro Tools, the ultimate in flexibility.
i hate this blocks feature as it is a gimmick. i don't want to create pop music so this blocks thing will be no use to me. i want progressions and variations.
oh please building blocks?music goes on feel there's not a strict structure to music!i agree below most users have recycle they have logic or pro tools to run side, with reason,im not ditching all my other software to be replaced with this upgrade, why not another synth?rewire to recycle?i cant see as many people being as impressed as their last efforts, what happened?
Think about all the people that produce MIDI files for commercial use, or like you said do produce pop etc. It'll benefit many people even if it doesn't myself or yourself. Props try to cater for everyone e.g. its not difficult to add 8 loop players, but the Octorex makes it much easier for new users to get stuck in, and a lot tidier. But they have also added extra features like individual slice editing and manipulation for more advanced users as well - best of both worlds.
WHERE ARE THE 64 bit versions of REWIRE + REX/RX2 sdk libs!!! I have been waiting on these for YEARS.. I have been a customer for years... and a DECENT recycle update years ago would be nice.. you want my custom again.. get your house in order and support your older products.. I'm not a cash machine for you lot!!!
A detune would come in handy too - the UNISON doesn't quite cut it as it just makes the sound flabby. And a seperate filter which has HP, and Comb, not just LP and BP? ADSR's on each Redrum channel would be good too.
As for Record - I'm gonna be selfish here - all I want is an autotuner (or at least a sample editor with a tuner in it). I don't see why I should spend all that money on Reason and Record, to then have to purchase something like Sonar just because it has V-Vocal.
R+R have the potential to be an excellent, all inclusive, music production tool.... but
IMO PHSW need to improve Reason's crappy sounding fx units. I'm not a logic fan but Reason's eq/comp CAN'T compare and these are very important aspects of music production. Record's mixing desk fx are MUCH better, but they should sort out the Reason units regardless. While they're at it, the phaser, and chorus could do with sounding a bit warmer instead of making anything they process sound tinny.
This looks great, but is going to be weird / tricky / pointless for those of us who don't make precisely quantized midi advert / elevator / cut and paste "music" and only record real instruments / drums / feelings. It's super-neat though and I love my Record. I'll probably end up sticking to the old fashioned songwriting / big-headed approach though :D
Is anyone else not that impressed? Reason is freaking awesome, but neither the Octo-Rex, nor the blocks concept is a significant advance from version 4--at least, not something to pay money for. @wittenbergdoor I thought it was just me but your right.. there isnt anything there that I couldnt do before.. for me the only thing new and slightly exciting is that you can now place slice's backwards but thats not worth the upgrade for me
@bjazz80 I have to admit that Kong is pretty cool (it wasn't announced yet at the time of this video). I'm beta testing it and it is quite nice. But I'd still say that I'm not sure it's worth the upgrade--unless, of course, you do the deal where you purchase Record now and get the free upgrade when v. 5 comes out. being the 1st reason 5 usser with a genuine vid on youtube i know exactly what you mean.
i have been usin blocks in reason for years jus by clolourin my intro, verse, chorus and outRO
dr octo rex is a lot like just havin a few dr rex's runnin, n kong was very disapionying and riddeled with faults, i at the least expected kong to be a good a bettery 3 but i was VERY disapointed.
BUT REALLY REASONS REAL STRENTH IS ITS LOW CPU N THAT ITS SOLID N NEVER CRASHES
@wittenbergdoor Yeah. The Propellerhead team says that Reason 5 is their biggest update ever, although they only add a few new features. They are using the same "hype" and subliminal based marketing as Apple and that's why their products seem so "inviting". Basically they build a huge HYPE, say for these blocks and it gets to your mind that this is a big thing, even though it's really not that big. You don't really need blocks if you are completely honest with yourself.
@wittenbergdoor i definitely agree, but personally, iv found the blocks option really does help organize everything in your head much better, and makes for a smoother work flow. =]
It didnt impress me much until the part about automatically updating parts if you decide to alter them. This will save so much time and confusion when copying and pasting stuff, which is frankly a pain in the arse, keep the good news coming :)
It was while Record was in Beta 1... i ask for EXAKTLY THAT - draw a Picture & they say: Sorry its not planed jet.. Also the OctoRex player.. so.. I am blown away about HOW they did it. YES THANK YOU!!!! I will never say a bad word again...
Well, Blocks are a very useful tool for arrangement. Good idea! I like! More workflow, more efficient for experiments and moving the arrangement parts.
So, i'm still waiting for the other options for R5 and R1,5...
@kb420ps I gotta say that ALSO as an Ableton Live user I'm thrilled by this announcement. Ableton is great for a live session view auditioning of ideas but once you have something you like you still then print your audio to the track view. And once you do that, it's a copy and paste party when you change your mind on something! It looks like this solves that. And for production/arranging, that's amazing.
looks good but lets see how we can deal with this. i mean i worked the whole time without blocks. its a new style of working. maybe a curse, maybe a bless^^
kinda reminds me of the sequence mode in fruity loops which personally i dont like cos i hate the program with a passion lol but this is good stuff !... at this rate reason will become obsolete and prop are gonna have to make one program called record and then make a lite version minus synths and effects that we normally get wen we buy reason. I ve got both record and reason and i reckon few people would just upgrade reason if they offer an upgrade with record like they did b4
