  • I just want Nine Inch Nails to be the biggest band in the world.

  • the day the world went away :D

  • the greed of these record companies is amazing... he's talking about downloading, not walking into the stores and grabbing the cds

  • What did he say in the beginning?

  • to be honest that is the main reason why i don't buy much music cd's, if i listen to any i only listen to them on youtube, at least i'm saving money

  • wow you're stupid

an album does not have be stolen via a physical cd

  • ya..he means download the shit out of it. ala The SLip, which he released, for free download, on his website.

  • this was before the slip came out, and i thought it was pretty clear that he was talking about downloading via p2p. i base that assumption from an interview i heard with him talking about how the way people listen to music has changed and how when he was marketing, he knew that most of the people out there prefer the direct digital format. this might have been the q101 interview, i'll have to find out.

  • both are stupid

  • true amazing how many people dont understand

  • Take this into context.

His "Year Zero" CD sold for $40 US in Australia. He asked a store owner (who didnt he was speaking to Trent) why and they gave him the explanation of the thermal paint coating.

Trent pays for that out of his pocket @ 4 cents per CD. So who makes that extra $25 on the sale? The store. The Company. The Label. BUT NOT TRENT.

He said this in Sydney for a reason. They're getting ripped off. I have so much respect for him its not funny.

  • He is one cool muthafucka, his band has my respect too!

  • You buy music to support the artist, not the company. Trent handles all the producing and making of CDs now, which is the way it should be. We give him money for him to give us a little bit of himself in every album.

And I'd be damned happy to pay anything for that, if only to support him.

  • yes, yes, everybody knows that my chemical romance is for gey people

fuck all that artist that see the music like work, like a busines,

music is art and it must to be free

  • Artists need to eat somehow. If I got a house and food and all my equipment for free I wouldn't sell my music at all, I would give it away. But that isn't the way it is. Let me move into your shit hole house and feed me, and you can have my music free of charge. Some people want to just make music and not work some bullshit meaningless job to support themselves. That means selling their art and music. I wish it wasn't like that, but I didn't make the rules of this game.

  • who the fuck r u ?

  • Nobody. And that's the way it will stay if people don't realize that someone had to spend time and money to make that album they are ripping off.

  • You got a point - not every artist can do the Trent Reznor thing and keep himself afloat - but it does get to a point where it crosses the line. Anti-Flag does just peachy selling their CDs for 5 bucks at their shows which cost 10 to get into. Thats fair.

Why should the people of Sydney pay 40USD for Year Zero? Its a good album but its not THAT amazing! Why should I pay $29 for a CD cause it has extra packaging?

If stores would simply sell more fairly, we dont have to download or buy at shows.

  • Actually, the police or FBI would not be able to arrest you because the copyright holder (producer of the music being copied) has now given his fans express permission to make and distribute copies of his music.

    =)

  • Thank you!

    =)

  • the label owns your songs. all major labels own the artists songs. you get the shitty lame ass royalties off of it, but its not yours. the whole music industry is fucking lame. i don't typically swear, but this is one issue that deserves it.

  • Trend knowingly says "STEAL CDs" not steal 'music' per se . the money is already exchanged when the records are shipped and before 'we' pay for it. When polls say "record sales" they actually mean "bought by record stores" ,this is always at near cost and then super inflated for your consumption=D. But to illegally download it is to often even take money from the artists.

  • have to disagree there, the song rights are handed over to the label so the label could get you done, only way trent would get the songs back is if he was dead for 70 years because thats when copyright would run out

lol am bored nd fk all else to talk about lol

  • My Chemical Romance is terrible. I would be willing to bet $50 you haven't heard The Fragile, hell, ANY Nine Inch Nails CDs all the way through.

But, I'm sure you believe you are 100% accurate in your commentary. Naturally you must.

  • Are you part of the label? Fuck you.

  • big deal most artists get their money from touring not cd sales

    i say steal away!!!
