Hey Doc, I bought an oc a little while ago, 'cause I'm a flute nut. I got it at this hippy-dippy shop, (it's got a peace sign on it) and didn't really know what kind it was. I think it's an english pendant. it's shaped like a whoopee cushion, with four holes in the "front, and two in the "back." The fipple is in the back. The one you have has different sized holes. With mine, they all seem to be the same size. D'you think I bought a dud? It sounds kinda wispy and the scales seem...off somehow.

@coyotecrow4 Sounds like it might be a Peruvian ocarina. In my experience, Peruvian ocarinas, while pretty cool, are very airy and do not have a clear tone.

I have a question about breathing. Do you just blow into the ocarina? Or do you have to angle your breath and other stuff like that when playing, like on a flute?

I know that some ocarina's require more air than others, but I'm still confused about the breathing part, because on a flute if you angle the air even a little off it sounds airy...

@FaroresCourage there is infact a breathing angle technique, but it onley apply to ocarinas with a fipple; the fipple bend.

the fipple bend works by using your upper of lower lip to cover the extra square shaped hole known as the fipple to lower the tone by a semi or whole tone. other than that, i don't think there are any preathing angle techniques. the ocarina mainly uses breath preassure to alter it's tone, and it generally does this better than tubular instruments.

@MissMadHatta If the thumbholes are covered, it should sound the same as a 4-hole. If the thumbholes aren't, the pitches might be higher.

@goldengreaser Pendants can come in many ranges, as in some of his other videos have a Tenor ocarina. I do not believe that this ocarina is a Tenor, it seems like Alto or Soprano.

@eyemonlay14 chances are that you got an alto or tenor ocarina, while his (I believe) is a soprano. Your ocarina is probably in the same key, but it just produces a lower sound.

NGnohohon - you'll notice that no mouth hole is shown on the score/ tabs, which is why you're getting confused. on the tabs, the mouthhole is actually at the bottom. hope that make it easier
