cool video, I'm guessing through a capture card uploaded to Youtube? hope you didn't put it through Windows Movie Maker or anything that would downgrade the quality.
why sega japan didn't released that for the european market, those game and few other could save the compagny from the bankrupt and today we could have a dreamcast 2 or other.
Cool video. First time ive seen this version in maybe 10 years. I have the PS version just put it on my PSP and it looks amazing though you can see the the Saturn version is more polished here. Some people have commented on the rubbish translation, well i though it was excelllent, certainly compared to the FF7 and 8. Amazing game. Shame the sequels were crap.
That's also the standard with how Japanese men sound as a good amount of them do sound rather feminine when communicating. Another fact about WACKY JAPAN is that women voice act a ton of men. And how is it trolling? The American Voiceacting was horrendous. It was in the It's so bad it's GOOD territory if you look at it from a particular perspective. BLAUGH! FEEEEEEENAAAAAAAAAA! I recommend popping the game in to listen to the voiceacting and try to tell me it's good.
Are you stupid? Justin's voice is the only American voice I like better, because he doesn't sound like a girl. The other acting, as I said, is better. If you actually took the time to read what I said, you wouldn't be struck with diarrhea at the mouth and look so stupid.
The fact that you "like" his voice only proves that you're epically trolling. So a 40 year old man pretending to be a teenager is better then a girl who voices a boy but at least sounds young? TROLL. TROLL.
And you seem to be stuck with retardism. A disease that's often compounded by flash bang grenade concentrations of stupid.
@beanertowel to be honest for me i like the Voiceacting in the "American" Version, maybe because i am not a nativ english speaker. Or europe got a better Syncro dont know.. )
It's not the only game, the Saturn was more powerful than the playstation...the problem was that it was EXTREMELY hard to develop for and it's still hard to emulate today because of the very strange, off the shelf hardware...if developers could have had used its full power many games would have looked better than N64 even. Some 3D games like the original Resident Evil looks better on the saturn too.
It had better 3d and could do cleaner 3d, but it didnt' have the same effects. Take RE for example and the water. It was a checkered interlaced thing on the saturn, but the PSone had it transparant like real water should be.
I am currently borrowing the PS1 version from a friend and I have noticed it slows down a lot and when I see your videos it seems that the saturn version doesn't have the same problem. Is this true of is it just my imagination?
Well, in a sense the Saturn is more powerful than the PS1 is some parts. But my theory for why it seems to run better on Saturn is that the Saturn uses Quadrilaterals for its polygons while PS1 uses triangles. If you look at Grandia, there are an awful lot of squares, so in theory the PS1 would need to use 2x the amount of polygons as the Saturn to recreate the game.
Well I didn't do any research, I have both of them.
It's true, the PS1 version does have a lower FPS, but the Saturn version actually physically slows down. E.g. Justin will run slower, the sound slows down, EVERYTHING slows down, not just the FPS when the Saturn version slows down.
I'd rather have a Solid 15fps with frameskip here and there, than 30fps that actually slows down to a crawl occasionaly
True but it is also more difficult to code for the saturn due to its dual processor set up. Most games only used one processor because it was too hard to use both. I also remember the saturn having a harder time with Fmv playback due to it not having built in mpeg decoding.
Actually after I did a bit of research I found the Saturn version runs at 30 fps while PS1 runs at 15 fps so the PS1 version is more laggy and it's slowdown would come off as more severe. And personally I think the special attacks look far better in the Saturn version, a lot of the 2D effects are missing in the PS1 version.
Well, that's quite right, FF's chars seem all stuck and boring if we compare to Grandia's one. But there are still a lot of difference, Grandia is the best RPG ever.
Well...that might be because FF games are usually more serious while Grandia and such are more anime-based RPGs that appeal mostly to kids or teenagers.
Yeah you're right...the only puzzling thing is that back when I was a kid, there was no way I would be playing an RPG because gameplay was too complicated for me. So even if the story is light hearted the gameplay is not so it's kinda mixed really. I don't think they really meant the game only for the younger audience.
I think that the creators of this game were not sure what to do. They seemed to switch back and forth between adult and childlike which was what gave this story its contrast between tragedy and fun.
On the one hand you have characters sacrificing their lives to stop the mass extermination of the human race and life as it exists, sexual imagery and swear words - and the other fun, lively characters with bizarre colour contrasts and funny accents. The music reflects this too.
Yeah, I guess it takes to understand a little about Japanese culture, I mean look at Jpop music and then look at Japanese horror, or the massive amount of pornography and fetish the Japanese like! it's like their culture has 2 faces.
I've got both versions of the game, and I'd much rather play the Saturn version considering it was the system this game was built from the ground up on. But alas, I'm stuck with the terrible voice acting on the US PSX version due to needing to be able to play it in English. If I actually knew a lick of japanese, I'd easily play it on Saturn instead.
I honestly wish I could play the Saturn version but I'm in the same boat as you, I can only understand basic Japanese ^^; Not nearly enough to go through an RPG. Wish I could though, the English voice acting on the PS1 ruins some of the emotional scenes.
Awesome vid! this brought back soooo many memories from when i used to played this when i was in year 3......i was sooo close to beating it aswell...oh well looks like i'll just have to play this on emulator. cya and good luck with anything else youre doing!
I can't tell the difference between this and the previous version, but I guess you're still experimenting with your new capture card. I last played this almost a decade ago and these flashbacks are great. Can't wait for the minecart ride (if possible)!!! Museum & dig site are next though.

Why I like Justin's American voice actor better than the Japanese version. Others are WAY better though.
NessAndLucied 3 years ago
This is the best trolling I have ever seen in my life. The American Justin sounded like a 30 year old man trying to voiceact a kid.
beanertowel 2 years ago
And his japanese one sounded like a girl trying to act as a guy.
And how in the world is it trolling? You've got your words mixed up.

Uh, no. I'm okay with adults voicing teenagers, though. It happens in tons of JRPGs.
How would you even know, anyways? Justin's VA isn't listed anywhere.
I think you're the troll here.

both versions are pretty bad in that respect, however the special attacks on the Ps1 version are more graphically adept.

If it appeals to older teenagers then adults can appreciate it. And some of the music in Grandia seems to transcend all ages.
Though the younger generations are the only mass that seem to appreciate story told through game.
