  • I want a LUPO in the states!!!

  • When clarkson is in the store just after he sees the cliff richard calenderthere is a snippet of a old cartoon and I can't figure it out HELP ME PLEASE

  • The lupo turbo in that year as 144 torque that's way more then a prius, so power the lupo turbo win, but space and size prius win. As efficiency goes from exierience alot of diesel have the same mpg as a third gen prius or better, 2007 legacy diesel 50 mpg, 1966 subaru 360 mpg 66, list goes on, i have work on prius and test drive all three generation in the states, by far to me it is the slowest car I have driven.

  • Wish they sold the Lupo in Mexico. Want!

  • still hate the pruis still hate the pruis but still looks like shit still looks like a died fish that has no eyes with every thing on it and also it will be a crap boreing slow prue slow the slowest car ever and nobody should buy it and if the due they should be blown up and shot with the car as well

  • Oh diesel critcis...such sore losers! You're not on a bloody race track, you're on the road. Get a grip! Diesel wins. I can hardly wait to get this car in the States! A Bio diesel electric would be even better! Get on with it Volkswagen!

  • @JamesTyreeII That's what it boils down to. I've driven petrol cars before and now own a diesel car. The torque is great and it's just where I like it to be, perfect for the real world of average day-to-day driving. I get 65MPG (UK) in a large MPV, costs bugger all to run and bugger all to insure. I may be "Tighter than two costs of paint" but when it comes down to it, fuel is getting very expensive here in the UK.

  • Isn't the cock the same one that they eventually gave to the stig for the golden cock award a few years later?

  • I always liked the Lupo. It's so cute and small. And it's VW build quality rather than some korean thing. I hope the new up is going to be as good.

  • I spent it on a COCK!

  • Cool

  • I want a golden cock....

  • the engine on the 1998-2005 Volkswagen Lupo

    Engine

    1.0L I4 8 Valve

    1.4L I4 8 Valve

    1.4L I4 16 Valve

    1.4L I4 16 Valve FSI

    1.6L I4 16 Valve (Lupo GTI)

    1.2L I3 TDI (Lupo 3L)

    1.4L I3 TDI

    1.7L I4 SDI

  • @1:00 kings of leon!!!! im a kol fan :)

  • 1.11 lmao CLARKSON !!!

  • This car was designed by the same person as the bugatti veyron

  • What does the diesel justice is when on the motorway at 50-70mph in top gear, the engine rpm is in the mid-range which is where most of the useful torque is, so hence how it performed quite well. I can't believe the petrol only got 42mpg as I had expected better. I drove an Astra mk4 1.6SXi on the motorway for 110miles and worked out I got about 55mpg. How you drive has a big impact.

  • I am fed up with diesel this diesel that. Manufacturers should invest in improving their petrol units.

  • petrol 4 ever <3

  • I just bought a lupo today and i fucking love it!! i love how much space there is inside. im 6ft 3 and i have tonnes of room, doesn't even feel like a small car!

  • i want to see the bmw 5 series review that james did in a segment just before this segment. does anyone know where i can find that video?

  • Lupo still looks like a modern car.

  • Funny how the new VW Fox replaced the Lupo, yet the replacement has much worse economy. What's the point?

  • I've always wanted to do a lap of the M25 ( one of the UK's longest motorways apparently), as it laps London, near where I live.

  • I can't believe The Stig broke the golden cock!

  • What season is this from?

  • @asken999 Series 3, Episode 1

  • @VolksDub Tnx :)

  • I wish they still did the Lupo to this date, the Fox wasn't a good replacement.

  • Ending is simply hilarious :D

  • my butt is bollocks

  • That's the same Golden Cock they used at the awards lol.

  • "I love people's faces in traffic jams, they always look so miserable... It could be worse, you could be shot in the back of the head by a marksman..."... XD

  • Wow, my v8 does 3.7kms to the litre!!!!!!!! LOL!

  • @gshdrums what car do you claim to have then?

  • @MillionairJoe its an australian muscle car 5.6Litre V8

  • wish we had the lupo in the u.s.

  • Why is it seemingly impossible to buy one of the Diesel Lupo's now? I want one what with the price of fuel gone bat guano crazy!

  • And people still purchase Prius's...gotta love American ignorance

  • @nardmanman Seriously, what is with American bashing? Everybody from Every Country in the world does some ignorant things from time to time. The British like Americans are stuck in 2 measuring systems when the rest of the world has changed. Some Americans think that Right Side Driving is ignorant since 90% of the rest of the world is Left Side Driving. Cheers Mate!

  • @GoMetricToday I am American and I've lived in Switzerland...and believe it or not the Americans are quite a bit more ignorant than the Swiss. What Americans really lack is not so much a technical knowledge but the ability to develop their own opinions about the world and life. To me its literally a joke to defend Americans in the category of ignorance...at least when compared to Europeans.

  • @nardmanman well that's because they don't sell the lupo in the states genius... lol

  • @nardmanman Great comment. I especially like how you criticized "American ignorance" just after spelling the plural of Prius as "Prius's".

  • @TheRiversDark ... believe it or not English professors aren't the ones improving gas efficiency. Oh and on that note how many languages can you speak?

  • @nardmanman It's 'Priusususususus' :-)) (Prius has twice the room and is faster - it's not a crappy econobox)

  • @nardmanman Agreed. But we don't get the Lupo here.

  • @nardmanman They did 42 mpg in the petrol version. The Prius does 48. So fuck off.

  • @CasusUniversum woooooooooooow the prius did 6 mpg more...yeah thats great considering how much the prius costs in contrast to the...LUPO

  • @toxik217 The Prius is a larger more powerful vehicle. You're comparing apples to oranges.

  • @CasusUniversum yeah but still the price differs to much considering the fact that you could buy a diesel passat in the same amount of money so what i am trying to say is that its not quite as good...YET.chers

  • @CasusUniversum Get the new Passat TDI - Official claims are 39mpg - most people get around 45-50 mpg.

  • @nardmanman . The Lupo is a tiny slow 3 door car. The Prius is a large, quiet family car with a 0-60 time of 10 secs which also easily gets 60mpg+.

  • @asmiddleditch I have a lupo and there extreamly well built reliable and efficient. The prius is an over priced failed experiment which caused more polution to build than its engine emmisions could ever make up for.

  • THE GOLDEN COCK! LOL.

So this was the beginning of the cock.

  • Why cant we get these in the US

  • Oh! boy, cock, beaver jokes, and these guys consider themselves as mature.

  • @Fussinated Where EVER in the world did you get the idea that these fellows count themselves as MATURE?!

  • 5.89 for over 7 litres of fuel...

that makes me feel great about having to pay 132.9 a litre now.

  • he bought a cock...:P

  • By American standards 40 MPG is alot, but it would be nice to have something that gets better than that. Now if only the diesel prices would drop a bit. Literally highway robbery.

  • go to facebook and find bring diesel engines to america

  • we want the Lupo back.. Fox is pure shit

  • @Octavideoz Now VW is coming up with the Volkswagen Up, looks alot like the Lupo

  • @234jari234 yep, planning to get it after i sell my old polo

  • mon dieu

  • Petrol Turbo spends less than Diesel I saw test 1.4Twin Turbo 170hp WV spends less than 150hp TDI 2.5 :))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

So diesel all have T When u put On petrol T its so close that diesel hardely takes the lead no chance to beat petrol AT ALL

  • Trust me, the Toyota IQ is much better !

  • diesels r shit useless without a turbo

  • Since when did Captain Slow and Clarkson trade places???

  • "and the third one is, you're probably french" hahaha pwned

  • The Golden Cock award at 1:02!

  • golden cocks, golden beavers. Ahh, good old top gear.

  • What season/episode is this?

  • Go on LPG :p

  • Has rather poor taste in cocks I must say. We need more diesels in the US but Americans being lazy, fat, ignorant slobs won't buy them until oil is $150. again.

  • @freetheweedsoon

I would love to buy a diesel. My problem is that the cheapest one is a Golf TDI at around $24,000 and at that price, I would rather the GTI or Mustant V6 that are still fairly efficient but much more fun. They have to make it worth it for a diesel, as in like $20,000 at the very most and probably more like 18. A cheap diesel Fiesta would be awesome!

  • @Yardjass What about an old Benz? They go on for ever.

  • @PenileDictum

Maybe. Do they get the mileage up into the 30's and 40's though like the Golf? I hear the diesel Fiesta can break into the 70's if driven properly!

  • @Yardjass A 240D can get into the 30s. A 300D, TD, or SD/SDL can get in the mid to high 20s. A diesel Fiesta would be lovely, but not enough of us want such a car, so Ford most likely won't bother offering one in the states.

  • @PenileDictum

I think they would be surprised how many people would want such a car. After all, why do people buy regular Fiestas? It sure as hell isn't because they are seen as cool or fast. Price it a grand or two higher and throw a diesel in it and I think they would make a fortune.

  • @Yardjass They'd make a ton on it. Alas, American automakers rarely make good decisions. Why rock the boat?

  • @PenileDictum

Yeah, I also know they don't make as much profit off of small cars as they do from say, an F150 or Fusion. I am sure they could profit well by shear numbers but they don't tend to look at it that way.

  • LOL my mom's yaris does 0-60 in 14.1 seconds. It's one of the slowest cars in existence LOL.

  • even my 50cc³ bike consumpts 4litres/100 km.

    :<

  • i sooooo want a lupo.....but im 15 lol.....oh well 5 years time i cn get 1 lol :P

  • @dan5060 ur a guy? and want a lupo? whats wrong with you?

  • i want a lupo!

  • that Clarkson video at 1:29, i'd buy that if i could

  • @Georgeous129 you can find it on torrent sites

  • wich season and episode was this plese replay

  • 1:02 THE GOLDEN COCK!!

  • plus, if you are running late and can't park your car, just slide your Lupo in your pocket and run!

  • this is one of my favourite JC reviews, of all time

  • o yeah...DIESEL POWER

  • LOL, the end of this is freaking amazing :P "I just remembered why I don't like to talk to you, so now I'm going to talk to my best friend, the little one" :D LMAO

  • which better? diesel or petrol? n whats the different?

  • WTF?! why is no one driving with headlights turned on @ 3:57 - very strange i think... anyway i LOVE the lupo... doesn't matter which engine, but i'd prefer the 1.7 SDI 'cause it runs forever!

  • There is also the Seat Arosa its identical in construction as the VW Lupo. Just cheaper and a different logo. My mother drove one.

  • lol smart is german u fool

  • Here is where the iconic golden cock is bought

  • a diesel lasts longer than a petrol.

    Let's say a diesel can reach without a laugh 500000 KM....but a petrol hardly 300000 KM...

The octanic number is higher,,,the heat is higher at the petrol..and that makes it die faster.

    I go for Diesel.

  • what were the lupos rivels lol ?

  • @siemens141 nissan micra, ford ka etc

  • Who can argue with 75 mpg for a 0-60 in 12 seconds? That's decent for a car that will do 105 mph. For a city car, it is perfect, unless you want a hot rod V8.

  • The diesel cars nowadays burn a lot cleaner and are a lot more refined than those of the 70's and 80's. Petrol is quicker off the line than the diesel, but does it really matter? 0-60 in 12.5 is reasonably quick, especially considering its only a 75 hp diesel. If i had my choice of the two, it would have to be the diesel. I like the torque that it makes, would be better in the snow.

  • Comparing a 75 hp diesel with a 100 hp petrol..... Why not comparing with a 75 hp petrol?

  • @Leviathan080

    they are both 1.4L

  • @Leviathan080 If the petrol was 75bhp then the engine would be smaller (more like a 1.2), you get more bhp out of a petrol 1.4 than you do a 1.4 diesel...fact :)

  • does anyone know wht covolity mean?? (probably not spelt correctly, but its what clarckson said the germans call it!!)

  • not sure if your jokin but anyways, hes just saying "quality" in a german accent

  • quality, but clarkson is pretending to do a german accent.

  • yes 75 hp. but massive torque though. spin the tires easily. 2nd gear

  • around here. farms are awesome.

  • rape your ape.

  • Me encanta ese carro, saben si estuvo disponible en america?

como lo podria traer a mexico?

  • Might be worth mentioning TDI, Clarkson or Top Gear in the title, took me ages to find this video...

  • They didn't mention that the petrol one was 100 brake and the diesel was 75...

  • @glanzakilla yeah, but diesel=75mpg, petrol=42mpg

  • @glanzakilla

actualy diesel is 70bhp, pump duse engine has 75bhp and 185nm, that is DI red ..

  • @mile325 If this is the 3l version it has 61 bhp

  • @glanzakilla Doesn't Matter.

  • @glanzakilla: The diesel version usually has less HP than its petrol counterpart.

  • @glanzakilla yeah, but they cost the same.

  • @glanzakilla Obviously the diesel takes advantage because it has more torque

  • @glanzakilla You didn't mention that the diesel has more torque than the petrol... DUH!

  • aww i have the yellow one it is AMAZING!!

  • Wow Clarkson prefers the diesel over the fun petrol - maybe he was forced to pretend by Greenpeace? lol.

  • Im buying a lupo soon, should be good!

  • I would like to have a golden cock ;)

But James is right: a small hatchback is more fun with a petrol engine.

It might not be faster, but at least u can rev the nuts off it.

  • It would be a better idea if we used the Lupo instead of the smart cars in U.S. I mean it's a safer car, and its a better German Engineering with 8 airbags and 4 seats.

  • agreed

  • Buy a VW Lupo 3L! It is the most efficent car on the entire planet! And the last one which can do more then 80 mpg. So forget smart and pruis! :)

  • 8 airbags? :D

Lupo has 2 airbag, or 4 (but only for GTI version).

But I have one TDI and I can confirm it's safe, cheap, good drive and finitures.

  • @17Shkurt2008Pavarsia yeah, smart is retarded

  • @17Shkurt2008Pavarsia, another thing to add is that if one really cares about the envirunment, Lupo TDI [or any Volkwagon TDI] is by far the best thing to get. Hybrids are a joke, if not the biggest fraud of our time.

  • @17Shkurt2008Pavarsia Forgive me, but isn't Smart German?

  • @pushtheenvelope It is part german and part french. It was designed in Germany but it was build in France. :)

  • @17Shkurt2008Pavarsia I know, I would kill for some of the city/supermini cars that Europe has, here in the U.S.

  • nice colors ...too bad its not available in the states

  • haha my best friend .. the little one lol.. forgot his name jeremy?

naah i like the way they goof around.

diesel! i never thought i see the day jeremy would be saying its fast or any type of good from it.

    nooooooooooooooo
