when i go to shoot once, my gun turns like automatic and i dont have any mods or anything for it, it could be my co2 running out, or something else? help?
THANK YOU. this might be the only video that is specifically on where and how to put the lube in your gun. I have a brand new Alpha Black so this helped allot ! :)
Is it absolutely necessary to take it apart to oil it? I was told I could just drip a little in the hole for the co2 and fire it without paint in it and that would run it thru the system. Taking it apart has me a bit nervous as I did this when I first got it and kind of did not want to work when I put it back together.
hey maybe you can help me out. i just bought a custom 98 at a garage sale for $30 and it shoots and i here no leaks, but it sometimes shoots twice even thought i only shot once. i already ordered the custom 98 maintenance/repair kit and plan on tuning it up to hopefully fixing the problem. but any ideas/suggestions on what it could be.
UGGG just buy a long john 98s are to slow and heavy, where a dye proto, guns like these are light, small and own in x ball, speed ball, and woods ball where the tippman can only play affectively in woodsball, plus my gun gets just as good or better range than a tippman and if i confronted you my gun and you had a tippman, I would most likely shoot first because mine is lighter, now if you look at this vid, the tippmans are plasticy where a long john is well built and usually have good internals
I've been using gun oil for a while now, and it works just fine. I was wondering if anybody has tried white lithium grease, the kind used in engines. Any thoughts?
@TheArmouredSoldier WD40 is NOT great. WD40 is a terrible lubricant. The "WD" stands for Water Displacer. I could type a paragraph about how bad WD40 is as a lube, but I suggest you do a google search for WD40 and learn about just how bad it really is as a lube.
when i took apart my gun i had 2 springs in the back attaching to the the drive bolt and the back cap...most of the time it wont cock back. what did i do wrong?
There's an O-ring on the end of the tank that may be scratched or missing. You can pick them up at Wal-mart or a paintball store. I suggest putting a tiny bit of oil on the new O-ring after you put it on.
i have 1 more question: is it posible that valve lock bolts (part nr 98- 26) are not 100% needed in my marker? Cuz in my there arent inside, there are just empty holes. My marker was in servis (they put new complete valve in it), and they said it ok! Was they right? I bought used marker, so there wasnt there alweys i got it. BTW sumtimes it chops balls, but its propobly cuz its poor version whitout A.C.T. :( Plz help me
i looking at my 98 right now and have a question: do i have to open marker to oil it, can i just do it thru feed hole and space where i can see spring?? Im just scard, that ill will cant put it back together since ill open it
you should take it apart to oil it also to clean it after you have used it a few times, and its a really simple gun to take apart and theres other videos on how to do it, and also if u go on the tippmann web site u can get a complete layout of the gun, anyways hope that helps

You should clear ambiguity by saying "I rent them out to people". Capitlizing OUT doesnt mean much to me lol. There are people out there who say "I rented out the movie for a few days". Catch my drift? I didnt assume you rent them out to people because of your incoherent and irrational statement about tippy's wearing out if you open them up every other day and this video not serving a purpose. I advise you to read the manual. It suggests you open it to oil the orings lol.
hey um sry about my earlyer comment... i was just mad cause it was my second day with my gun and i broke it... now i kno it was my fault and i learnd how to do it
I have rented out these for about two years, and I have never done this. They are still working fine as new. I have also spoken to people who has rented out the same markers for up to five years, and they have never done this either. But the markes are still working fine as new.. So what, then, is the point? You will however cause wear and tear on the whole marker by pulling it apart every other day.
Ugh no. You said that you've been renting them. Well the people that you rent from maintain them lol. If you own one and consisently play without oiling them, the orings in the valve will dry up, shrink, crack, etc. One thing that i dont even understand is why would you rent for 2 yrs? Why not just buy the marker? Who the hell would even rents a marker for 5 yrs lol? If youre one of those people that play once ever 6 months, then your comment is meaningless. If you play consistently, youre dumb.
I have rented OUT these for about 2 years. Ask your mom to help you understand the language, before answering in this manner.
I play once a week. The specs for the Tippmann 98C states that dripping two drops in the air inlet is sufficient. You are wearing everything out, and you clearly do not know what you are talking about.
Thats what im saying. Who the hell in their right mind RENTS markers for two years? You never said you own or BOUGHT. You might as well buy it is my freaking point instead of renting for two god damn yrs. Maybe you need to understand that there is a difference between renting and buying. Youre saying pulling the marker apart wears and tears it. Obviously you dont understand because only illogical people would rent a marker for 2 yrs lol.
One more thing noob. It's not called an air inlet. Most people who play paintball refer to it as the ASA. My understanding from your original comment is that youre saying you shouldnt have to take care of your marker because you know people who said they didnt have any problems for five years without doing what's in the video. So youre going to contradict what the manual suggests? The manual suggests you take it apart and oil the orings. Dropping oil into the ASA oils the valve only.
Ok.. For the third time: I have rented OUT, that is O, U, T, markers for about two years. I own 14 markers which I rent OUT. Do you get it now, or do I need to feed it to you in even simpler terms? If not, go ask an adult please. I have rented out, and I have spoken with others who have also rented out.
I think any further discussion with you, and your lacking ability to comprehend the simplest terms will be too time consuming, so if you have anything else to say, keep it to your self.
Can you define the word RENT for me please? Is that synonymous with purchasing? No it's not. The keyword here is RENT not OUT. My point is that you didnt PURCHASE. You RENT. Maybe youre trying to say that you purchased and dont understand how that differs from rent lol. Is that a Norwegian thing? In the US of fuckin' A we say "we BOUGHT that shit". I could careless about how many markers you've rented. For someone to be assertive and and say that two drops in the ASA is sufficient is a noob.
Well, how would I be able to rent out markers without buying them first?
That was a retoric question, so don't bother your little head with it.. I can't belive how slow this is sinking in. Let me try and put this in terms you might understand:
1, Buy markers.
2, Let people come and borrow the markers for a nominal fee.
Now, I have adviced you to go ask an adult if you do not understand. I suggest you take that advice.
When he says to oil the front part of the power tube, you may want to put a very small amount because over time the oil may be forced by the front bolt into your barrel which coats it in oil, which will make your shots inaccurate.
FUCK YOU!!!! i broke my fucking gun cause you! dont do wat he said ull lose ur varenty and might break ur gun!to oil just put 2 drops in the place u screw the Co2 and dry Fire....
you are suppose to put oil in the ASA but that only lubes the valve. you need to disassemble your gun the way he said so you can well oil it and clean it after every time you play. i have done this well over 40 times. you are just really stupid and dont know what you are doing. grow up and stop blaming people for your mistakes dumb ass.
dude this is basic maintenance... dont blame him just because you are retarded and lost a spring... i do this all the time... ur supposed to do it after every time u play... the first time i did this my gun broke but instead of blaming youtube i actually LEARNED how to do it.
hey 1 question does this imply to like the by company cuz i bought a bt-4 and i was just wondering cus i now the tippman and the bt look alike when they make guns so does it imply?
just so everybody knows which most ppl probably already do, be careful when playing at a place with alot of sand or dirt cause if it gets in your gun it will fuse with the oil and if you dont clean it quickly it will act like glue and take a while to clean out.
pointless video because i have had my tippmann for 4 or 5 years and i have literally never lubed it or taken it out of the boc and it works like i just got it
still my friend has an A-5 and he cleans and lubes it after every day of paintball. his gun looks and works like new, i have an AK-47(not full auto) and even tho i dont need to clean it u should anyway to keep it functioning. and i have a 98 platinum pro i clean it after every time. if u take care of ur stuff it will take care of u.
yo i dont get what you mean when u say "where the co2 goes" do u mean where i screw it in? please reply directly in a message as soon as you see this. cuz i really dont understand where to lube the o rings and if i should use the lubriplate oil that it comes with.
Ive seen bt 4s break down quit easily. A 98 model you buy must have a ACT. A tippmann a5 is very good also a little more money but really it just looks a bit cooler. good luck
this is a waaay late reply but you can, you can buy adapters to use a5s on 98s, 98s on spyders, etc. google paintball barrel adapter. something like that
hey is it hard to disasemble the gun, clean it, and asemble it back together? because for this gun it looks harder then a different gun like a spyder.
hey is it hard to disasemble the gun, clean it, and asemble it back together? because for this gun it looks harder then a different gun like a spyder.
hey is it hard to disasemble the gun, clean it, and asemble it back together? because for this gun it looks harder then a different gun like a spyder.
Really dumb question and I know someone will flame. But where the tank screws in I always put a drop or 2 of oil there. Is that a place I should never oil again or oil lightly or what ? If somone would reply I appericate it thanks.
Ni? I think you might mean N2 which is the same thing as HPA. The only problem with oil and HPA, is if the oil gets inside the HPA tank, the heat when filling could cause a fire, and fire inside HPA tank = explosion.
when i cock my gun. twards the back of the gun where the spring for the bolt is. there is a thick rubber ring floating around in there. what do you think it is? i dont know weather or not it shoots because im out of co2.
I would generally agree, if you're new to paintball and working on paintball markers/guns, then take it to a pro shop the first couple of times you need extensive work done on it. But it's a good idea to eventually learn how to do some of this yourself.
I just read as much information as I could on the Internet, posted questions on forums, and finally just decided it was time to take the gun apart and hope for the best. :)
You can soak a lot of internals to get "crap" off. Remove the o-rings and drop the parts into a bowl of warm water. Let them soak for a couple of minutes, then check them to make sure you've gotten everything off. Let them dry COMPLETELY, then put the o-rings back and lube it up. Don't soak the power tube, it gets a little irritated when you get it wet. The biggest deal is to just make sure everything is thoroughly dried and re-lubed before putting it back in the gun.
k, take it into a wide open room so you can see the parts if one just happens to fly out, take it apart and put it back together, make sure everything is nice and tight, and put together. slide the bolt and make sure it fits in nice and snug where it should be. if that doesnt help go to a painball place, and tell them you have something wrong with your gun, they might be able to fix it on the spot. and by paintball place i mean like a paintball field where you'de play.
Could you tell me what you did to fix it, Mine is doing that to and I don't wanna do any more to it incase I do more damage. I don't wanna take it is to the shop and pay a bunch of money to get it fixed, Plz tell me.
when i took my tippmann 98 apart and put it back together, it just wont work. By that i mean that it wont fire properly, when i got everything on it and put the co2 on it just shot c02 out everywhere mashing the paintballs in the barrel. the c02 was coming out of the bolt and the barrel. I have no idea what to do and I really need some help.
I dont realy like the word he keeps useing "Maybe" kinda sounds he not sure if to oil it..but he seems he knows what hes doing....Ow take it out im asumeing to oil it fully+ what equipment to use when cleaing?
I lube up all the o-rings, the rear bolt, and i lube up all moving parts a little bit, alittle lub isnt going to hurt the gun, what ever you do dont take the powertube apart!! (the black tube)
hey goofball if you oil that first o-ring it expands and that is very bad silly monkey what a waste of a good paintball gun any other brilliant ideas?
Yes--If there's not enough power to push the bolt all the way back for some reason then you'll have to re-cock it. But if that's happening then you need to fix the double-firing problem. You can try replacing the main spring and lubing your marker for starters.
No, I have the same gun as you and Oil is really important because after a while it will seize up and the O-rings will break (it is the same with all paintball guns). After taking it apart 2 or 3 times it will be easy.
I am a beginner and I have just purchased a 98 Custom -- ACT, my question is : can I maintain my marker without actually opening it up -- example oiling it etc...
yea just drop it in the bolt area and after 2months of play u should put some oil in the air line then fire it with air with out the barrle an d that should clean ur internals
ya do what chadillac8nine0 said. and somewhere along the line your gonna need to gon into the reciever to fix stuff so its best to get to know where everything is and where its supposed to be, i have an a5 and its not as complicated as someone would think, but im not so sure about 98's, and if you did something wrong dont freak out, just look at the manual.

GhostFace3891 3 years ago
Well, how would I be able to rent out markers without buying them first?
That was a retoric question, so don't bother your little head with it.. I can't belive how slow this is sinking in. Let me try and put this in terms you might understand:
1, Buy markers.
2, Let people come and borrow the markers for a nominal fee.
Now, I have adviced you to go ask an adult if you do not understand. I suggest you take that advice.
kristianasdf 3 years ago
rent out means to rent somehting to someone else..

When he says to oil the front part of the power tube, you may want to put a very small amount because over time the oil may be forced by the front bolt into your barrel which coats it in oil, which will make your shots inaccurate.

***WARNING WARNING***
FUCK YOU!!!! i broke my fucking gun cause you! dont do wat he said ull lose ur varenty and might break ur gun!to oil just put 2 drops in the place u screw the Co2 and dry Fire....
FUCK YOU
berkkid11 3 years ago
you are suppose to put oil in the ASA but that only lubes the valve. you need to disassemble your gun the way he said so you can well oil it and clean it after every time you play. i have done this well over 40 times. you are just really stupid and dont know what you are doing. grow up and stop blaming people for your mistakes dumb ass.
latinsalvy 3 years ago
also, this wont void your warranty. tippmann recommends you do this. all tippmann owners should do this.
latinsalvy 3 years ago
dude this is basic maintenance... dont blame him just because you are retarded and lost a spring... i do this all the time... ur supposed to do it after every time u play... the first time i did this my gun broke but instead of blaming youtube i actually LEARNED how to do it.
paintballz2470 3 years ago
hey 1 question does this imply to like the by company cuz i bought a bt-4 and i was just wondering cus i now the tippman and the bt look alike when they make guns so does it imply?
dreamkilla22 3 years ago
just so everybody knows which most ppl probably already do, be careful when playing at a place with alot of sand or dirt cause if it gets in your gun it will fuse with the oil and if you dont clean it quickly it will act like glue and take a while to clean out.
babaganush00 3 years ago
can u tell me why my egrip doesnt cock and respond when i change firing modes
nite420 3 years ago
pointless video because i have had my tippmann for 4 or 5 years and i have literally never lubed it or taken it out of the boc and it works like i just got it
TommyRIves 3 years ago
word tippmann is the ak 47s of paintball, you rarely if ever need to clean them. but it's important to keep the barrel clean.
ballaboy5000 3 years ago
still my friend has an A-5 and he cleans and lubes it after every day of paintball. his gun looks and works like new, i have an AK-47(not full auto) and even tho i dont need to clean it u should anyway to keep it functioning. and i have a 98 platinum pro i clean it after every time. if u take care of ur stuff it will take care of u.

anipussirhc 3 years ago
yo i dont get what you mean when u say "where the co2 goes" do u mean where i screw it in? please reply directly in a message as soon as you see this. cuz i really dont understand where to lube the o rings and if i should use the lubriplate oil that it comes with.

can someone give me sum buyin advic right now i have a VL orian and i want a 98c or should i get a BT-4 combat just send me a message thanks
hozzer2 3 years ago
Ive seen bt 4s break down quit easily. A 98 model you buy must have a ACT. A tippmann a5 is very good also a little more money but really it just looks a bit cooler. good luck

easiest gun to disasemble in the world love it
bobdole92 4 years ago
hey is it hard to disasemble the gun, clean it, and asemble it back together? because for this gun it looks harder then a different gun like a spyder.
By the way what happens when you dont clean it?
TeletubieXD 4 years ago
It's not too hard -- but harder than a Spyder I believe.
If you don't clean your gun, paint residue starts building up and it gets really sticky and nasty. Plus it will rust and wear down faster.
rookpaintball 3 years ago
oh ok thanks!

if i lube my gun will it stop shooting one, and having another pop out for 5 feet?
i just got my 98c. it cant be broken.
pinto53 4 years ago
Really dumb question and I know someone will flame. But where the tank screws in I always put a drop or 2 of oil there. Is that a place I should never oil again or oil lightly or what ? If somone would reply I appericate it thanks.
SQUADLEADER09 4 years ago
hopps #9 says u should so i dont see y not lol
gunit59brim 4 years ago
Its a late reply but, thats the best way. I do a shoot of oil every game like that, works fine, like for years now peace
anipussirhc 3 years ago
you should put oil there only if ur using CO2 or Ni because with hpa it could start a fire because the air isnt clean
poltergeist913 3 years ago
Ni? I think you might mean N2 which is the same thing as HPA. The only problem with oil and HPA, is if the oil gets inside the HPA tank, the heat when filling could cause a fire, and fire inside HPA tank = explosion.
TheUltraMegaChicken 3 years ago
yeah i di mean N2 sorry but N2 isnt the same as HPA
HPA is the air that we breath
N2 is pure nitrogen
poltergeist913 3 years ago
an N2 tank, and HPA tank are the exact same type of tank. Still, with HPA you can still put oil on the ASA, just not the fill nipple.
PS. most of our air is nitrogen anyways.
TheUltraMegaChicken 3 years ago
thanks for correcting me i dont want to send out any false information
poltergeist913 3 years ago
when i cock my gun. twards the back of the gun where the spring for the bolt is. there is a thick rubber ring floating around in there. what do you think it is? i dont know weather or not it shoots because im out of co2.
pleas respond
atomicspiderpig 4 years ago
That belongs there and it should be loose (like yours is). You can see it in my gun in this video.
rookpaintball 4 years ago
k thanks. i thought it was broken and was about to return it. what dose that pice do?and what happens if you take it off
atomicspiderpig 4 years ago
the o ring cushions the bolt when it recocks after firing so it doesnt damage the plastic cap on the end
poltergeist913 4 years ago
thanks
atomicspiderpig 4 years ago
what i do is the lazy way every time befor use i put a drop or 2 of oil in the air intake and screw on the tank and it does me fine
mikemike390 4 years ago
i reccomend taking it to a shop rather than do it yourself because this way you know its in good hands. and you can be assured it will work properly
streetsk8trs 4 years ago
I would generally agree, if you're new to paintball and working on paintball markers/guns, then take it to a pro shop the first couple of times you need extensive work done on it. But it's a good idea to eventually learn how to do some of this yourself.
I just read as much information as I could on the Internet, posted questions on forums, and finally just decided it was time to take the gun apart and hope for the best. :)
gldrumm 4 years ago
lubing is freaky because your gun is literally broken.but putting a new trigger or board in is easy.
pinto53 4 years ago
Is there any kind of oil that a Tippmann 98 custom should use?
I took apart my gun on a carpet floor and a bunch of crap got in there. Is there any way to clean that out?
Please respond
ninjamonkey127 4 years ago
You can soak a lot of internals to get "crap" off. Remove the o-rings and drop the parts into a bowl of warm water. Let them soak for a couple of minutes, then check them to make sure you've gotten everything off. Let them dry COMPLETELY, then put the o-rings back and lube it up. Don't soak the power tube, it gets a little irritated when you get it wet. The biggest deal is to just make sure everything is thoroughly dried and re-lubed before putting it back in the gun.
gldrumm 4 years ago
k, take it into a wide open room so you can see the parts if one just happens to fly out, take it apart and put it back together, make sure everything is nice and tight, and put together. slide the bolt and make sure it fits in nice and snug where it should be. if that doesnt help go to a painball place, and tell them you have something wrong with your gun, they might be able to fix it on the spot. and by paintball place i mean like a paintball field where you'de play.
Heer69 4 years ago
nvm i just fixed it. there was something wrong with the bolt
Heer69 4 years ago
Could you tell me what you did to fix it, Mine is doing that to and I don't wanna do any more to it incase I do more damage. I don't wanna take it is to the shop and pay a bunch of money to get it fixed, Plz tell me.
ecellg 4 years ago
when i took my tippmann 98 apart and put it back together, it just wont work. By that i mean that it wont fire properly, when i got everything on it and put the co2 on it just shot c02 out everywhere mashing the paintballs in the barrel. the c02 was coming out of the bolt and the barrel. I have no idea what to do and I really need some help.
Heer69 4 years ago
part 3 u only have 2 vids on the site
TippMannMan142 4 years ago
I dont realy like the word he keeps useing "Maybe" kinda sounds he not sure if to oil it..but he seems he knows what hes doing....Ow take it out im asumeing to oil it fully+ what equipment to use when cleaing?
etramsey 4 years ago
I lube up all the o-rings, the rear bolt, and i lube up all moving parts a little bit, alittle lub isnt going to hurt the gun, what ever you do dont take the powertube apart!! (the black tube)
supraman121 4 years ago
hey goofball if you oil that first o-ring it expands and that is very bad silly monkey what a waste of a good paintball gun any other brilliant ideas?
ebola009 4 years ago
could double fireing cause having to re-cock the bolt? sometimes when you fire it with co2
cjmorton 4 years ago
Yes--If there's not enough power to push the bolt all the way back for some reason then you'll have to re-cock it. But if that's happening then you need to fix the double-firing problem. You can try replacing the main spring and lubing your marker for starters.
rookpaintball 4 years ago
first of all wrong wrong wrong you don't replace any of that you replace o-ring that goofball told you to lube because o-rings expand with oil!!!!!
ebola009 4 years ago
double firing is caused by the sheer wearing out .
ebola009 4 years ago
That comment was for vlz5h
ricky9991981 4 years ago
No, I have the same gun as you and Oil is really important because after a while it will seize up and the O-rings will break (it is the same with all paintball guns). After taking it apart 2 or 3 times it will be easy.
ricky9991981 4 years ago
dear concerned paintballer it seizes due too all the oil thats put in it.
ebola009 4 years ago
how often should i clean my gun. since i bought it i havent oiled it is that bad??

Clean and oil it after every game and you won't run into problems.

you should make a tutorial about the pen spring mod
X6Joemama6X 4 years ago
I am a beginner and I have just purchased a 98 Custom -- ACT, my question is : can I maintain my marker without actually opening it up -- example oiling it etc...
vlz5h 4 years ago
Most likely not, and it's better in the long run if you know how to open up/perform basic maintenance on your gun.
ReflexTest 4 years ago
Yeah, there's a way. You put 3-5 drops of oil in the ASA and dry-fire it into a rag 4-7 times, with the gun pointed up, and the barrel off.
Chadillac8nine0 4 years ago
hey. um what is the ASA and they fire it into a dry rag with the barral off?? and why when the gun is pointed up??
lookatlook 4 years ago
yea just drop it in the bolt area and after 2months of play u should put some oil in the air line then fire it with air with out the barrle an d that should clean ur internals
tippmannx7 4 years ago
ya do what chadillac8nine0 said. and somewhere along the line your gonna need to gon into the reciever to fix stuff so its best to get to know where everything is and where its supposed to be, i have an a5 and its not as complicated as someone would think, but im not so sure about 98's, and if you did something wrong dont freak out, just look at the manual.
