They hold up fine. I have had about 5 pairs of these over the years Iand it takes along time to wear a set out. I ont even inflte mine, just let the tire equalize and they hold shape real well.
I got the flaps built on my hangar 9 1/4 scale cub. You dont have much rudder authority with full flaps down blocking all the airflow to the tail! Sure slows down to a crawl though!
I think it weighed in around 14 lbs.....also alittle head wind sure helps alot in distance too. There was mabe a 3-5 kt head wind during those flights. But either way flaps sure do shorten it up alot.
eventually......im pretty busy working out of town these days. I did sell this plane a few months back but now have a bushed out Husky and a new 1/4 scale PA-12 that i will eventually shoot some video of.
Bush flying it the term for flying out in very remote areas....i.e. Alaska or anywhere that there is generally no airstrip/airport. Bush Pilots land and take off on sand bars, remote feilds, glaciers, and up and down hills/mountain sides. I really cant imagine a more challenging type of flying. IMO Alaskan Bush Pilots are about the best civilian pilots around and it takes the highest skill level to fly in and out of the places they fly. Just type in "Bush Pilots" here on youtube.
I fly Ultralights (Kolb Firestar) and grew up flying in Cubs, Champs and full sized gliders with my Dad. I have been flying RC since I was around 11 or 12 back in 1981.
hiw did the vortex generators work for you? did they really make adifference, i am just building my Bush plane a Hangar9 1/4 Scale with flaps. I will add the flaperons vortex generators and Slats.
The VG's made the stall less dramatic. I did take them off as I was gonna redo them by making them smaller, further fwd and more of them. Just hav not gotten arouind to it yet. Im gonna do slats myself, based on the Makey SQ-2. The H-9 is a great aircraft to do these mods on. I have flown a few of them and they are very nice aircraft. When my WM Cub finally bites the big one, im gonna buy the H9Cub, do the same as you and modify it for full STOL capabilities. Keep me in the lop on your progress!
Already doing that....look at my latest video that is just a bunch of pics from the other day. The last set show the flaps down with flapperons. I can take off in about 3 ft in zero wind!
Freakin cool !

amazing flying, cant wait to try bush flying with my new e-flight bever!

Very good piloting, I haven't seen someone this skilled in a while. Have you put any vortex generators on the wings, they shorten takeoffs a bit.

Finally put flaps on her....HUGE difference. She is a full blown bush plane now!
no add some leading edge slats and she will be perfect!

Bitching plane, where'd you get the tires, and what have you got for a powerplant?
surf4luke 3 years ago
Those are Dubro 6" Inflatable tires and the engine is a G-26
qm1usn 3 years ago
Did you ever consider installing breaks for the wheels? Rolling distance after landings could probably been divided by two
Free07Style 3 years ago
Yep...sure did! Me and a feind were exploring that option. Still in the developement faze

Now that you have the Flaps try some flaperons for even better STOL capabilities.
