  • Killer song, but the intro guitar part kinda sounds like "start me up" by rolling stones

  • just a little info on this album i ran across. they took some classical guitar lessons during time between albums and incorporated it into this cd.

  • i love this song!!!!!

  • Bands like Machine Head, Lamb of God and Mastodon give me hope for future rock music.

  • I'm in agreement with you CalLingtheRain

  • This song means alot to me and I'm not an emotional guy. This music over here really got that feeling that this music can bring you to your highest tops and save you from your greatest deeps. And this is what this song is all about. I have no idea what I would do without music in general and Machine Head are one hell of a band.

  • worlds most underated band...

  • If he did thank god then he'ld be as big a doushe as beiber you thank god on your own time not when getting some award.... unless your black then its fine

  • People saying the albums gay their just experimenting with their sound probably and next album they'll be back to normal.... again probably

  • really dont know how people say this cd isnt brutal enough... i am hell is easily the most heavy song to come out in some time... and get this. its on the cd.

  • Why the hell does this album get so much god-damn hate? Honestly, it's one of the most well rounded modern metal albums I've listened to in absolutely freaking ages. The best part? Not a single song feels out of place, and more importantly, they all FEEL like Machine Head songs. Sure, it's not a balls to the wall album like The Blackening, so what? People still LOVE Through the Ashes, no? I don't remember hearing anyone complain about the likes of Descend the Shades of Night. Diversity people...

  • I love how there is so much negative comments, first voice is not girly at all!I stumbled across this band from cm radio channel 41 so glad I did this band kicks ass. Singer has a bad ass voice. Keep up the great work, great sound......GGGGRRRRRrrrrrrrrrr

  • I love how Machine Head have matured with there music. I enjoy Nu-Metal as well as Thrash but they now have made there place in Metal in general! Fucking love this entire album!

  • this song is absolutely stunning, still too early to pick a favourite between this and blackening but this song is amazing

  • Please go back to the style of The Blackening. This is not nearly aggressive enough of an album.

  • This song is just phenomenal, another reason Machine Head is one if my favorite bands.

  • @shredaddict503 But that's the thing about music, it knows no religion, skin colour, race or creed, it's just music, it's people that turn it into what they want it.

As for God giving us music. That's up for debate and is dependant on if you believe in God or not. If the person doesn't then you cannot expect that person to thank someone they feel doesn't exist.

I personally have a very relaxed view on religion, but each to their own.

  • Comment removed

  • @shredaddict503 good god even in metal there are crazy christians still believing in sillyness

  • @shredaddict503 While I respect your beliefs and I believe in God myself, I think anyone who's religious has felt what this song is saying. There are very few religious people who have not at some point felt betrayed by what they believe in, which is basically what this song is talking about.

Now with all the religion aside, this song is fantastic. I love it.

  • Listened to this at the concert for the first time and I cried... I literally cried!

  • This one goes out to all Metalheads!!!

    We are One!!!

  • This song goes to those who say there are no beautiful metal songs...

  • Man, I dont understand how such a good band could make such a bad album, I love MH but I gotta be honest, I cant listen to this album, it just bores me, I hope they bring out a thrashier album next time and hopefully we dont have to wait another 4 years for it!

  • @leelee5991 Come on dude, there's no need for a reaction like that. I'll agree personally this album is rather epic to me, but it's his view and he's entitled to it. And don't tell someone they're not a fan because they dislike one album. That makes most Metallica fans illegitimate due to St. Anger. I love Metallica they are my favourite band - no other comes close. But that WAS one awful album. And now Lulu too...

  • @mdower100 This song along with the title track and I Am Hell are some of the best metal songs I've heard in a REALLY long time. I mean, it's your opinion, and that's cool I can respect that. It just seems odd, I don't know how these songs can't engage with you the same way they do for me. It might just grow on you over time?

Granted, none of them are as good as Halo, that's still my favourite by far, but they're still awesome in their own respects.

  • @EssexMetalHead Yeah, maybe your right mate, i have bin a bit critical of the boys, I just really wanted them to come out with a real kik ass true MH album because so many good bands have made such awesome albums since The Blackening,I saw them 3 times on that tour, and have seem them 2 times b4 that on the Supercharger/ Ashes to empires. By the 3rd tour of the blackening, I started thinking 'when are these guys going to stop this tour and make another album!', It just took ages.

  • @EssexMetalHead Thanx for not being a dickhed about it like some of the other tools that have replied to me. Thats what fellow metalheads should do. And You my friend have made me seriosly consider get'n out Locust and giving it another chance, cause those three songs u mentioned are ok I spose. It mite grow on me

  • @mdower100 Well glad to be of assistance mate. I like the idea that I'm a "True metalhead" for this. Well yeah, there's no reason to go bringing someone down just because they disagree with you, different opinions lead to diversity and original music. If everyone agreed in unison about their tastes in music, essentially you'd have pop music. Let's be glad we're not there eh? =)

  • @EssexMetalHead

Mfw i loved st anger. v.v

  • @leelee5991 Well that's all right, I'm not going to judge you for liking an album I don't. It's your taste after all, what business is it of mine? Personally I don't like St. Anger, but I'm not going to try and stop you from listening to it.

What I'm trying to say is there's no need to tell someone they aren't a true fan, just because the band has done something they're not so keen on.

  • @EssexMetalHead I like your style bud, stikn up for what u blieve in, but with dignity, keep up the good work. may the Metal Gods bless u champ. ( check out the song God bless u, from Sodoms new one-in war and pieces mate)

  • @mdower100 Lol. Having a Christian family but being atheist yourself is a quick way to learn that the best choice is to simply "agree to disagree".I'll give you my view and you'll give me yours, as long as there's no childish "your opinion is wrong" bollocks and it's done with respect, it's not hard to get along with anybody.

And on "God Bless You", it sounds cool but, I'm not too fond of the vocals myself.

  • @EssexMetalHead Thats a good attitude to have. Yeah god bless u was just one outa the blue i thought of at the time, i didnt like that shit either about 2yrs ago but it really grew on me, mainly just City of god and war and pieces, cant get into their earlier stuff. btw, have been listening to Locust,it seems to be growing on me now, i like the first 3 the best, the rest have fukn aaawsome parts, but also some less desirable parts too which ruin a cple of songs.

  • @mdower100 That's a fair comment to be fair. I do like this album but it's not as Thrash or rough cut as their earlier stuff.

My fav by far is the Burn My Eyes album, followed by The Blackening, Through Ashes of Empires and then the rest.

  • @AngelSlayer667 Here'Here! to Burn My Eyes mate, One of the best debut thrash albums of all time!, i would probably go with the more things change followed by Ashes, then(and u may laugh at this one) Supercharger, then Blackening.....but this list is subject to change, depending on what im tying to learn to play at the time.

  • @mdower100 That is exactly what I was thinking!!!! They lost the heaviness of The Blackening. Their is hardly any chords at all in this fucking album. Whats up with the gay ass singing too????

  • @wilmarth45 You are so right there mate, his harsh scratchy yelling voice is as good as ever, even at its best in parts, but that other voice Rob's sing'n with?,yeah'it seems a bit girly to me.,maybe the boys are go'n for the female audience with this album haha.

  • @mdower100 never was a huge fan of machine head, i knew of them and would listen, but wasn't something i would invest time into. heard them jan 19thish playing mostly this album, I LOVE THIS MACHINE FUCKING HEAD AND THIS FUCKING ALBUM.

  • @Kanuggadin congratulations, enjoy.

  • @mdower100 I found that the album takes a fair few listens before you really appreciate it. I think it is better than the blackening but that just my opinion. I agree though that I hope there is not 4 years til the next album

  • @mdb86lfc yeah,I have been listening to it a fair bit the last couple of weeks,I think it is OK,but maybe just leaning a bit more toward the commercial sort of metal with this album. Half of it is good though but, dude,im old school, been listening to metal for 25 years so Burn my Eyes will always be my fav MH.

  • @mdower100 Fair enough, its not the same as MH early stuff but they have never been a band to stick with 1 style and that is what makes us love them. If you dont like this album, thats cool. Lets just hope the next 1 catches your fancy

  • the energy of this when is live is amazing

  • Ok I don't listen to metal...but my brother does. I really liked this song. I like when you can understand what the singer is saying

  • @beatboxpeej Me tooo !!

  • Fuck the haters. This is the shit. It's a beautiful song and I feel drawn to it.

  • @Skillmare I agree to :) machine head is one of the best metal bands in the world! Robb flynn is a "beast" :)

  • @Rose666Blood a sexy beast grrrr

  • @Skillmare A-fucking-men!

  • Saw them last night :') this song is so beautiful, it just almost brought me to tears :') Rob, Adam, Dave and Phil, you are true musicians I love you guys. You write amazing music, full of pure raw emotion :) its a masterpiece if you could paint music, this would be more valuable than Mona Lisa :)

Music will set you free :) and that's what it did to me thank you machine head for amazing music \m/

  • @Destr360 Well that's your opinion and you're welcome to it. I disagree but it's all good

  • Argg...if only I could see them live..

I love listening to Machine Head. This song is amazing..just like their others.

  • Saw this song live in Pittsburgh, just amazing.

  • @a7XBigEA7x i love the speech rob gave right before this song, "We have a couple here that drove all the way from Cleveland... its there anniversary and they came here to share this moment with us and with you... this song is dedicated to them, and its dedicated to anyone in this building who has had a moment were music has saved them... feel free to sing as loud as you want to, sing louder than the band if you want to... this song is called Darkness Within"

  • i think everyone can connect to this song, its just purely amazing

  • wow, the start is surprisingly foo fighters like

  • @STTSimon If you've been to any of their recent gigs, Robb Flynn explains why he wrote the song the way he did. :)

  • @AngelSlayer667 I went to Machine Head gig and I don't know too :)

  • @xcFEUP When I saw them live in Birmingham in December he explained why and how he wrote the song and where the lyrics come from. :P

  • @AngelSlayer667 Yep. Just saw them last night! AMAZING I mist say.

Its about people who use music to save them when they are at their lowest and to keep them at their highest when they are feeling "high" (not a drug reference)

  • sick solo

  • chyeh

  • one of the few songs that make me cry, laugh, happy and sad at the same time

  • This song is so intense. Around the time the drums kick in my heart explodes. EVERY TIME. This song makes the album. Holy fuck does this song make the album.

  • Es ist schon eine sehr lange Zeit, da ein Song hat mich wirklich zum Weinen gebracht. Es ist so wahr, so, mein Leben relavent. Alle meine Gedanken und Ängste und Träume sind in diesen Notizen based ...

  • The lyrics in this song describe perfectly how I felt growing up and even how I feel now. I grew up in a strict Catholic home and was force fed all the religion stuff. Like everyone, I've had struggles in life, but music has always been my escape and gotten me through some really screwed up times.

  • Nice to know that a band I loved as a teenager is still putting out shit that completely eclipses more recent bands. My Darkest Days isn't fit to lick the sweat off the nuts off Machine Head.

  • Hope I can find this on Vinyl.

  • i started listening to MH like a year ago with locust they rock

  • Downloaded the whole album and i dont regret it...

All of these songs were awesome and i cant wait to see them in NYC on February 2 :D

  • amazingggggggg WOW!!!!

  • Anyone else think this song sounds like paint it black by rolling stones

  • Freedom is just a pretty way to say you've gone off the grid. That you're out of options.

  • This song expresses me so fucking well

  • how come when some people post this cd it gets removed and with some people it doesn't? i don't get it.

  • dit is echt goed

  • @djjjw67 me too

  • Think of how amazing Through The Ashes of Empires was. They set a high standard there. Then they made The Blackening, which was one of the best albums of metal in YEARS! People doubted they could reach the bar set by "Empires", and then they raised it again. History repeated itself, and 2011 saw the birth of Unto The Locust.

If you think THIS album, The Blackening and other MH albums were amazing, then think about this:

    What about their next album?

  • this song helps me think about life

  • Flynn and Demmel could have something in those guitars, i love vio-lence and i love machine head

  • Mysteries forgotten chords,

I strum in vain to please the lord,

But he has never answered me,

    And faith has waned eternaly

    amazing lyrics right there !!!!

  • top 3 bands for me

    1.Metallica-since i was born

    2. five finger death punch

    3.machine head

  • @x6ghostninja9x

to each his own but i really don't see how you can put that boy band metal hunk of shit FFDP above MH.

  • @x6ghostninja9x Get that FFDP shit out of there.

Motograter was Moody's best of his career. This FFDP shit is apalling

  • @laffyta2 go fuck your self

  • @x6ghostninja9x Go listen to some Motograter

  • This song is just amazing. I believe it's a masterpiece of our time. Machine head just keep getting better and better through the years. I've been a huge fan since about 1996 when I was in year 8 in high school. The last 3 albums are pure genius.

They connect through raw emotion via their lyrics and tone. This song cannot be described in words... it seriously can't. Neither can songs like Aesthetics of Hate, A Farewell to Arms, Descend the Shades of Night.

    Just listen and enjoy!

  • @exc3ss forreals

  • Machine head are awesome, Black Veil Brides suck, end of discussion.

  • MACHINE FUCKING HEAD

    MACHINE FUCKING HEAD!

  • this song helps me get through a very hard and painful part of my life....

  • I do find it amusing that people feel the need to tell others what's acceptable and what's not acceptable.

I for one will not be told what bands I can listen to and what bands I cannot listen to because it makes me a poser.

At 32 I've been listening to metal/hardcore/metalcore/thrash/rock etc etc longer than most of these trolls have been alive, doesn't make me an expert on what's metal and what's not, it just lets me tolerate things more. As a sound engineer I cannot be close minded.

  • @AngelSlayer667

    wise words ;)

  • @ganzwasanderes Lol not sure if you're being sarcastic or not :P

Wieso bist du ganz was anderes?

  • @AngelSlayer667

    nö, mein das ernst.

alle nicknames die ich wollte waren vergeben, also hab ich mal ganz was anderes probiert ;D

  • @ganzwasanderes Naja dann sag ich danke. :)

  • @AngelSlayer667 theres metal and rock thats it

  • @AngelSlayer667 dig it people

  • @AngelSlayer667 Holy truth!

  • @AngelSlayer667 xD Could you imagine an elitist sound engineer? I've noticed that even though I've been listening to more metal and heavier forms of metal such as melodic death metal, I've become more open minded about metal in general.

I can't wait untill I'm your age and basically become a metal god. xD

  • @MoonlapseOpethian Lol I'm sure there are plenty of elitist sound engineers that just stic to one type of genre and don't shift to anything else.

I personally feel that if you want to improve your skills and experience you have to work with bands of every genre.

I am a metalhead and always have been but I've worked with unsigned and up and coming bands that range from hip hop to punk, from rockabilly to thrash metal, from rock to hardcore...and I've loved every second of it :)

  • @AngelSlayer667 good comment man, btw just out of interest what does sound engineering entail?

  • @leomollon123 In short, Sound Engineers whether it's in a studio or like me Live Gig Sound Engineers, basically try and get the sound from the various instruments and reinforce them through a PA system.

Studio Engineers do something similar just aim at recording the various instruments for reproduction purposes :P

  • @AngelSlayer667 What do you think about Megadeth ???

  • @Valerio2381 I never really got into them as much as I did with Metallica. Back in the day you either liked Metallica or Megadeth and I went the Metallica route.

Don't get me wrong they are an amazing band and they have released crushing album after crushing album, but I don't know, Metallica sounded grittier to me and sounded edgier whereas Megadeth sounded too polished.

I will say though the Albums after The Black album suck ass from Metallica.

  • @AngelSlayer667 yeah good opinion, but i choosed the Megadeth route because Megadeth since 1983 (debut album) kick ass and produce amazing album just like the last one (Th1rt3en), Metallica has fnished doing amazing album in 1991 with the black album, so i respect much more Megadeth than Metallica. Metallica has been one of the greatest band in the world for some years, but now they sucks about me. That's just an opinion don't get me wrong..

  • @Valerio2381 Megadeth kicks major ass dood!

  • @AngelSlayer667 yo bro ur a sound engineer? alright this is gonna sound stupid but as a sound engineer wat do you do? :P cause i hav a passion for music, i absolutely love it. al kinds, but im more into metal and rock, and i wanna head into a music related career, and i was just curious :P aha

  • Getting a bit heated here.

Aight I can see why metalheads are getting aggro about BVB being mentioned on here, but in the defense of the people who have mentioned BVB I did ask what their Top 5 bands are, so they have EVERY right to post BVB on here.

I personally cannot stand BVB, but the beautiful thing is choice. I choose not to listen to them and if someone else does like them and wants to listen to them power to them.

Now you metalheads get off your high horse and stop being elitists.

  • @AngelSlayer667 excellent comment. i'm sick of these elitists who blindly follow the bandwagon of hating on bands that they dont like. and they call them "posers" as a means of saying "if you like this band then you are not a true metal fan".

i dont think these guys realize that i probably listen to all the same stuff as they do, but i get judged as a poser all because of ONE band!

the typical elitist displays negative traits of a crude and arrogant personality. so the shame's on them really.

  • @AngelSlayer667 Humans have a short time of life, but this dudes wants to wasting that time to discuss shit about bands, this is a video od MACHINE HEAD , i dont care what people say about BVB or snoop dogg or another shit, everyone listen what they like and that's all :)

  • OK IF YOU GUYS HAVE A PROBLEM WITH ME LIKING BLACK VEIL BRIDES AND MACHINE FUCKING HEAD, FUCK OFF! ALL IM DOING IS STANDING UP FOR A BAND THAT I LIKE, I DO THAT FOR EVERY BAND I LISTEN TO! I WOULD KICK SOMEONES ASS IF THE SAID MACHINE HEAD WERE EMO POSERS AND I WOULD DO THE SAME FOR BLACK VEIL BRIDES. JUST BECAUSE A BAND WHERE MAKE UP AND HAS A KISS/MONTLEY CRUE LOOK DOESNT MAKE THEM POSERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @xHeadbangerFoREVerx exactly thankyou. its so ridiculous how everyone starts ripping into black veil brides for wearing make up and shit and yet i bet tonnes of them will fall back on black metal bands like immortal and satryricon. black metal is as much about IMAGE as BVB are imo. regardless if black metal is more underground.

aslo i'm a guy, but i tell, you what, if i were a girl i'd rather andy biersack over abbarth for a shag any day. yes, i know metal isn't about getting laid, but still...

  • So,Basically what I'm hearing is "you have to agree with me and like exactly what I like"if I dont like it then it obviously sucks, and you're a poser"sheesh...is why I fight the urge to read comments 98% of the time...and NO I'm not defending anyones choice of music, not even my own because to defend it is pointless....

  • How about everyone who's here to listen to this amazing song just listens and discusses metal, and all Black Veil Brides fans just get the fuck off a metal page of Youtube and go listen to them? Lovely.

  • @UntoTheLocust1992 wow dude hang on. i love machine head and the likes. but i admit that black veil brides have some decent songs in my opinion. i know this isn't the time and place to discuss them. but just to clarify that i aint gonna get off this awesome song for the sake of the brides. besides, machine head are 1000x better anyway. so there's no need to assume that those who like the brides only listen to that. in the huge expanse of metal thaT i listen to, BVB are a grain in the sand.

  • @darkshredder951 Besides, why are we even discussing the BVB on a machine Head video?

  • @darkshredder951 Black Veil Brides are pussies. Shitty ass music.

Thank all of you for standing up for Machine Head, but seriously don't ever mention that shit on a Machine FUCKIN' Head video AGAIN.

I'll go blast Determined by Mudvayne out my truck and drive by the local highschool and catch those dirty looks from the Mexi's.

Listen to the real shit, or listen to Slayer. Only two options.

Otherwise you're a fuckin' poser. Gfto

  • @laffyta2 seriously dude, you having a meriod or something?

btw, i listen to slayer as well. not as much as i used to, but i like them. jeff hanneman shreds like a beast, and kerry king sums up awesomeness!

and i listen to the real shit too. the likes of rammstein, manowar, iced earth every now and then. i also enjoy the likes of exodus, napalm death and extreme metal like keep of kalessin.

seems i'm out of options. oh well looks like i'm a "poser" then BOO-HOO... :p

  • @drlukage

BVB and Kerrang are both total pop/rock bullshit for little teenage wannabe metal heads!!!

    Machine Head rule!

    \,,/

  • @TheBurningPriest

    Couldn't agree with you more.

  • Pure Perfection!

  • That solo...

  • Holy shit. His singing voice has gotten so much better

  • There are very few songs that I love more than this...If Machine Head decided to go pop, I guarantee this song would blow up all over the world!!!!

  • In no apparent order...

    Mastodon - The Hunter

Machine Head - Unto The Locust

    Foo Fighters - Wasting Light

The Devil Wears Prada - Dead Throne

Dream Theater - A Dramatic Turn Of Events

As you can see, I open myself up to many different sub-genres within the rock genre, from progressive metal to modern rock to metalcore. Let me know what you think!

  • 1. Septic Flesh - The Great Mass

    2. Megadeth - Th1rt3en

    3. Rise To Remain - City Of Vultures

    4. Sebastian Bach - Kicking & Screaming

    5. Dream Theater - A Dramatic Turn Of Events

  • zzzzzzz

  • Machine Head - Unto The Locust

    Iced Earth - Dystopia

    Devildriver - Beast

    Megadeth - Th1rt3en

    Trivium - In Waves

  • @brunodrumsdt You really liked the DD Album? I heard it was terrible when I saw them live.

  • five finger death punch american capitalist

black veil brides ... i forgot what its called XD

    unto the locust...THESE GUYS

uhhh i know there are others but i dont wana think

  • @syfearsniper keep that black veil brides poser shit off of such an awesome video.

  • @drlukage hahahahahah YES

  • @drlukage Flag for spam. :)

  • @drlukage There not poser, if you have a problem with BVB fuck off shithead, if you dont like them, keep there name out of your mouth

  • @xHeadbangerFoREVerx

Dude they are terrible, they're yet another band based entirely on image, one of the dudes has got his last name as sixx? total steal from Motley Crues Nicky Sixx.

I'm sorry you're music tastes revolve around whatever Kerrang! plays or puts in there shite magazines. but im sure with this new year you'll find something decent to listen too.

  • @drlukage Slipknot, Slayer, Machine Head and Lamb Of God are my favorite bands... if thats not decent music idk what is then

  • @xHeadbangerFoREVerx

holy shit would you like a fucking medal? great those are you're favourite bands, but if they are, and when you say slipknot you mean their first two albums with you a few added, then how can you even give BVB the time of day, theyre a terrible band, that steal ideas, attempt to be glam and fail, and will most likely burn out in the next few years...

  • @drlukage Lets all pray they burn out soon. Or just burn, hairsprays really flammable

  • @drlukage According to there 1.4 MILLION Facebook fans, they aren't a terrible band. And i total agree with Machine Head being a 1000x better. I respect your opinion. and i also agree with the burn out thing. but they snagged a ton of awards from Kerrang!, revolver and some other comppanies.

  • @xHeadbangerFoREVerx Those awards are 100% bought by record companies A band with an image as heavy as theirs, of course the young and impressionable looking for a way to fit in and be "different" at the same time will be easy to sell to.

At least in the 90s and early 00s the Manson goths had half good music to listen to, as opposed to emo-goth bullet for my valentine rip offs (which is saying A LOT)

  • Flood your facebook profiles with Machine Head video's and lets start getting real music like this out to the sheep!!

  • Comment removed

  • Ha, I thought no bands could write songs like this anymore. Machine Head fucking rules. Thank you.

  • goin to see these guys in couple months fuckin happy
