  • This is one of a handful of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer productions of the 1950-1951 period whose original copyrights were never renewed and are now apparently in Public Domain; for this reason this title is now offered, often in very inferior copies, at bargain prices, by numerous VHS and DVD distributors who do not normally handle copyrighted or Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer material.

  • Marilyn Monroe was often expected to provide her own wardrobe. The sweater with the grey body and black sleeves that she wears worn previously in The Fireball and in the final scene in All About Eve.

  • The story line was overtly designed to accommodate the corporate backers of the movie, and now it is really only of interest as a look at some common perceptions of its day. The last part of the movie did have the potential for some fairly effective melodrama, but parts of it become rather labored, and it is mainly thanks to Crisp's restrained performance that it remains watchable.

  • Home Town Story is a 1951 American drama film directed by Arthur Pierson and starring Jeffrey Lynn, Donald Crisp, and Alan Hale, Jr.. The film features Marilyn Monroe in a small, early role.

The film was backed by General Motors to promote their perceived virtues of big business.

  • I saw this today in Taiwan, after I found a VHS videotape in my room that does not belong to me and i had it made into a DVD to see what it was and then this film played. It appears to be a 1950s propaganda film to promote american capitalism and was paid for by General Motors as a propaganda film. But nice touches and I despite the brainwashing theme, i loved the entire movie

  • From a sociology viewpoint I saw one Irish-American chaufeur, & nothing but White Anglo-Saxons.I saw plenty of 1950 films in my young age, this was trite & generic. No emotions but some anger. One thing I noticed.Marilyn Monroe could have played other roles except dumb blondes.

  • And I'm watching commercials with this movie because???

  • these movies remind me of when i use to stay up all night when i was out of school in the summer stay up untill like 4 in the morning

  • fucking full herror

  • Bad, silly story. Good acting

  • The Skipper!

  • Margorie Reynolds did a lot of TV in the 50's...She was a very attractive brunette.

  • Can't believe some confused Marjorie Reynolds was Marilyn Monroe. Although I do find it interesting how casting was done. Barbara Brown who played Blake's mother was only 8 years older than Jeffrey Lynn.

  • Ideologically poor, shot well. Monroe is gorgeous even in this tiny role.

  • I agree. I love Marilyn :)

  • Marilyn Monroe plays Iris Martin, an employee at a newspaper office

  • Did anyone recognize Betty White from the "Golden Girls" in this movie? Her character is Janet.

  • Oh, sorry... I just saw the part everyone was talking about, and thats not her. But I guess she only had like a 3 minute part.

  • it is marilyn... her name is right there in the credits for one. It was just an early (ish) role.

  • monroe???

thats so not her in the beggining

    :(

  • I don't mind the ads but that Mens warehouse guy needs to hire a spokesperson, his voice is brutal to listen to, he needs to cough up a hairball.

  • That CANNOT be Monroe at 0:09:15 ! She looks different than in other movies I've seen her in. I'll keep watching to see if it's really her.

  • very loving

  • You mean lovely.
