for doubles, it's all about rebound. Obviously the faster you force the drumstick on the surface of the drum, the more bounce strokes u get.
You need to practice controlling the rebound of both your left and right hand. This is the basic idea, make sure both hands are equal too, u don't want ur right hand doubles being louder than ur left.
I can't seem to keep up with speed!! Whenever I try doing 16 notes and reaching 100 BPM, I will tend to loose rythm and then there goes the roll... Any advice on getting speed? And I'm still practicing the double roll!
Hi Jared, I really enjoy watching your vids. You explain everything nice and clearly. Good job man. I have a question though. I'm trying this rebound technique but can't get the second or third hit as strong as the first. What the key to that?
@egbt4 yes he is by using a loose grip with a pinch, but i'd highly recommend watching jojo mayer and jim chapin technique to learn the moeller stroke and then practicing doubles trips and semi's using the bounce, i'd also highly recommended playing both hands at the same time to ensure an even stroke balance then use a metronome to get a continous bounce going effortlessly, when you achieve this you can then even go onto being able to play 64th's by throwing a flam and offsetting the hands
@jaredfalk Hey, just a quick question. When your doing doubles are you using the finger technique or just getting the rebound from the power of the first hit? Your videos are great so thanks for the help.
anyways, I have been trying the double stroke roll for almost 6 months but not getting speed at all, I have been patient not trying faster tempo immediately once I'm comfortable with current tempo. Also with the practice pad I'm actually doing good (I guess) but on the drumset huhhhhrrrggggggggg NOPE!! I'm only playing 2 single strokes :( Any suggestions?? BTW, I have come to this video thru your Facebook, so I am really not a stranger :) Thanks and looking forward for your response!!
Awesome...!!! FreeDrumLessons is always helpful and inspiring since that was the first website I had been to and still working on your exercises... I just love the videos and the way you guys teach, It's not bcoz it's free but I was not sure that I'm gonna continue drumming...

@Drummerjay16 that sorta depends on the tempo and how fast you can play. if you can, its better to stroke out the doubles, if not, let it rebound
